The melting point is where it all comes together…or makes a big mess.
San Amaro Singles, Book 1
Corey Fenwick keeps her bitter past as hidden as the sweet centers inside the handmade chocolates she sells to a growing list of upscale customers. Experience has taught her the only person she can rely on is herself, so her best-friends-with-benefits relationship with Matt is perfect—no strings attached.
After his last girlfriend deemed him “boring”, Matt Ferber watched her ride off on the back of a Harley with a rock musician. Figuring he’s doomed to “let’s just be friends” with the women he cares about, the arrangement with Corey suits him fine too. Until his old friend Dylan Schell rolls into town to hang out while recovering from a surfing injury.
The sexy bad boy makes Corey’s mouth water, and she figures a harmless fling won’t hurt, especially when Dylan suggests she come between him and Matt—in bed.
It’s a win-win-win situation…until somehow there are strings attached. And too late they realize they’re getting all tangled up.
Product Warnings
This book contains an independent woman, two hot guys, some trash talking, a little jealousy, a few beers, chocolate body paint and scary stuff like falling in love.
Guest Post:
*disclaimer* Harlie is very into beer. I live in Texas, so I drink anything that Shiner brews. If you are ever in Texas, I’ll buy the Shiner Family Reunion and we will drink together. Provost!
Beer and chocolate. Surf, sun and sand. Sex. What more could you ask for in a romance novel??
The hero in With Strings Attached, my latest release, owns a microbrewery and brewpub. Matt loves beer. He likes to create beer. He likes to drink beer. He likes to bartend and shoot the shit with his customers who drink his beer. He’s a good guy.
Matt owns Laguna Dorado, a brew pub, and he likes to create new kinds of beers. Micro breweries which create smaller batches of beer can focus on quality ingredients and can create more interesting beers. Matt once tried to make a beer that tasted like pizza, but that didn’t go over so well. Some of the unusual beers I found while researching the story are:
Dragon Spit India Pale Ale
Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout
Smooth Hoperator (get it?)
Buster Nut Brown Ale
Parking Violation
Effinguud (read it out loud)
Dad’s Little Helper Malt Liquor
Panty Peeler Porter
Druid Fluid
Alimony Ale
Bananas N’ Blow
Smells Like Weed IPA
Nut Sack Ale
Buttface Amber Ale Harlie has had this beer and its good. If you can get past the name.
Yellow Snow
Santa’s Butt Porter
Moose Drool
Seriously Bad Elf
I’ll Have What The Gentleman On The Floor Is Having Barley Wine
Vergina (!!!)
Arrogant Bastard
Happy Ending (!!!)
Irish Death
Screaming Ape Porter
How does Kelly keep things fresh in your writing? I wish I knew because I’d bottle it and make a million. Sure this is standard erotic troupe of friends with benefits. Add a third for a ménage and then the “friends” realize that they can’t live without the other and are in love. Sound familiar? Sure it does but Ms. Jamison keeps it fresh with her characters. Yes, characters.
Sounds simple, right? Actually its not. Take a deeply wounded woman that is so emotional closed off when it comes to love that it will take more than sex and a crowbar to get her to open up. Sex is easy for her with Matt and Dylan when he is there with them. Admitting to herself that she can be loved and love in return is harder.
Matt has a lot of convincing to do when it comes to Corey. Best friends with her has led to him facing his true feelings for her when he’s other best friend shows up. I didn’t particularly buy the whole bad boy thing with Matt but I understood his reasons for doing it. I don’t like it when good guys have to be “bad” to prove themselves to the woman that they love. Of course, Matt never thought that he would have to fight for Corey with Dylan.
Dylan, just wow! As the “third” in the ménage, for me, he is the most complex and I can’t wait for the rest of his story to be told. Dylan is what makes Ms. Jamison’s ménages work for me. He is the conflict, the catalyst, the reason for Corey and Matt to finally own up to their feelings for each other.
That said, the sex is of course hot, sweaty and yes, I’ve experimented with body chocolate. (Make sure you bring a wet cloth for clean up) The thing is she can write a sex scene that is graphic, loving and emotional and I don’t feel dirty or cheap. Again, Ms. Jamison’s ménages make sense and there is always a reason for them.
If you have never read a Kelly Jamison book, run don’t walk to your Nook/Kindle and buy this book or for that matter any of her books. You will thank me later. 🙂
Liberty Ann’s Review:
Ahhh chocolate ~ a girl’s best friend sometimes. Full of endorphins, almost as good as sex…well, maybe. 😉 Hot men can be a girl’s best friend too and since Corey was only interested in friendship, her arrangement with Matt as friends with benefits was perfect. She had her chocolates and she had Matt…what more did a girl need, right?
The Good: This book snuck right up on me. It was a complete and total surprise to me just how very much I liked it. I knew there was a friends with benefits relationship and menage involved but I had no clue how well developed the characters would be nor what an incredible and complete storyline was involved. Corey was the most likeable female character I have found in a long time. Basic, responsible and down to earth, I found I could really relate to her. One of the best parts? She had flaws – a huge need for asserting her independence and taking care of herself, without anyone elses assistance. Matt was the kind of friend every girl should have – reliable, thoughtful, smart, handy and hot-as-hell. The two of them were great together. Yup, Chemistry Central. Then Dylan shows up and adds an entirely new dynamic. His laid back, surfer-dude approach to life is in direct contrast to the lives of both Corey and Matt. And guess what? Even he had baggage. Now Ms. Jamison doesn’t throw all of that information at you at once…she portions it out bit by bit as the story unfolds. It was like tasting one of Corey’s chocolates ~ the flavors and essences come to you in layers and are to be savored.
The Bad Additional Good: Sometimes when you have complex characters and relationships in books, the pacing is off. Not in With Strings Attached. This book had the perfect wave of emotion, story, and heat. It ebbed and flowed and kept my interest entirely. When we reached resolution time even, the tension rose, peaked, and then gently rolled down the other side. No cliffhangers and unresolved problems to leave you hanging. It was wonderful!
The Snuggly: As a rule, I am kind of lukewarm when it comes to reading about menages as they are usually just thrown into the storyline for the sake of kinky sex. In this book, there was an actual reason for it and knowing that made the M/F sex as well as the M/F/M sex incredible. There was emotion to go with the heat and that makes this book very memorable to me…that and the chocolate body paint. 😉 Of course, I still totally needed a fan (or four) hehehe.
The Rest: Wow. Just Wow. I read this book as an ebook but now I want a hard copy to keep ~ and I only keep my very favorite books. 😉 Obviously this is not a book for the under 18 set. It is a fantastic Contemporary Erotic Romance ~ with menage. Now before you let that keep you from reading it, remember what I told you. This is a menage with an actual reason for it and that makes a HUGE difference. Give it a try…you may be surprised at what you find!

I’m a married mother of two who lives a very ordinary life outside of my imagination. When I’m not writing I’m usually reading. I also like to cook and that means I like to read cookbooks and cooking magazines. In the summer I enjoy spending time gardening and in the winter I like to read gardening magazines and seed catalogues. I love lying on the beach or on my deck with a glass of wine and a good book. I also love to travel. As you can see, pretty much all my activities involve reading somehow! Although I don’t have as much time for it any more, I also love to shop, especially for clothes and shoes. Some think I’m obsessed with shoes but that is not true (although my husband would point out that there is no room left in our closet).
