Top ten things you don’t know about me:

1.  Cotton or Silk? Cotton, please. Silk slips and slides too much. J

2.  Champagne/beer/wine? Umm none of the above. Mixed drink or amaretto sour.

3.  Plotter/pantser:  Plantser. Tried both, but I’m definitely a combination.

4.  Describe your workspace: Currently, it’s a corner of my couch with a TV tray as my desk. Working on updating the office.

5.  Sports fan or just tolerate it? Hockey yep! Everything else—pretty much just tolerate it.

6.  Who is your biggest influence on writing? My family. They are the ones who really push me to overcome the roadblocks.

7.  Favorite food: Mexican.
8.  When did you start writing?  When I was a kid. I can remember winning a spot at a writing contest in junior high. It was one of my favorite things to do in school.

9.  If money were no object, where would you like to live? On a ranch either in Texas or South Dakota. Not very exotic…but I love the solitude!
10.  What’s next for you?  My next release is Finding Her Dream. It is a contemporary erotic romance set in the small town of Kimmswick, MO. It releases March 30th!

Enjoy the following excerpt for The Devil’s Bond:

The clean scent of pine and sage from the prayer ties attached to the trees surrounded her. She added pieces of cloth to her mental checklist of details to include. These prayers represented the people of the area. The sacredness of the tower.

Over the years, she’d learned remembered sounds and fragrances added depth to her paintings.

“Excuse me, ma’am.” She turned around and found a park ranger behind her, his arms folded across his chest. The gold badge on his left pocket stood out against the green of his shirt.

“Yes, sir?”

“I’m sorry, but the park closes at sunset. I’m going to have to ask you to make your way down the trail.”

“No problem. I’ll just gather my things and head back. It’s so peaceful out here, I’d like to say I lost track of time. But that’s not true. The sunset was too hard to resist. I’m sure you understand.” She picked up her sketchbook, charcoals, and pencils then placed them in their respective spots in her bag. The sketch she’d started wasn’t complete, but she had enough to continue it once she’d settled into the hotel for the night.

The ranger offered a polite smile and held his hand out to help her stand. “I do, ma’am. It’s very peaceful out here. I’ve spent many nights under the stars, escaping the hustle and bustle of life.”

Oh, to see the night sky unhindered by city lights and sounds. “I can imagine. Have a nice evening.”

As Annaliese moved away from the ranger, she caught sight of another man a few feet off and to the left. The trees kept him hidden from her direct line of sight. Long, shiny, black-as-midnight hair fell down his back. From where she stood, only his profile was visible. He had skin the color of hot cocoa; sharp lines from his cheek and jawbone framed his face. He reached overhead and tied a purple swath of cloth to the tree. His lips moved, and she wondered what he was saying.

He tilted his head back and, for a split second, their gazes locked. She jumped, startled at the intense connection snapping between. A desire to remember his features, paint him, enveloped her artist’s senses.

A gruff sound from the ranger pulled her from her desires and daydreams. It was time to go. Freewill, Wyoming awaited her arrival.

bookreview

I love this series from Decadent.  Each one stands on its own but I’m awed at how the authors weave the town and its people into their stories.  Ms. Scott does an excellent job of weaving the town into her story.

What I really enjoyed about Anna and Garrett was their mutual respect of each other.  Yes, you could almost say that their’s was an instalove kinda thing but after you read their lovemaking scene, I felt like it was spiritual in nature.  In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever read a scene like that.  It was somewhat silent in nature and I dare say…calming.  I really felt the connection between them not as just lovers but as partners.

Garrett is a Native American who decided early on that he was not going to live on the “rez” and wanted a better life for himself.  He is also not your stereotypical romance Native American either.  While he had his ranch and horses, he could see the beauty in his surroundings and for Anna.

Anna was just great.  While I was reading bits of her back story I had to giggle.  I know where Forney and Rockwall are.  In fact, Forney is about 45 minutes from where I live now and yes, its much easier saying that you live in Dallas.  🙂  Plus, Ms. Scott is right…Love Field is so much easier than the “big” airport.  I could appreciate Garrett’s apprehension.

Ms. Scott did her homework when it comes to paintings and galleries.  I love art but not too smart when it comes to anything past seeing it on the wall.  I’m simple that way.  She managed to draw me into Anna’s world when it came to her thought process and the “how” she starts a painting.

But really what impressed me the most was the ending.  Yes, the ending.  It wasn’t wrapped up neatly in Freewill.  There were decisions to be made on the part of Garrett and Anna.  Yes, they made a connection when she was on vacation and making a major life decision while there would have been too much for me.  Anna had too much to deal with in “Dallas” once she got to Freewill and while Garrett pushed a bit, he never made demands on her.  🙂

Overall, if you are looking for a great edition to the Western Escapes line, “seeing” painting through the eyes of a painter and horse breeder with a heart of gold The Devil’s Bond is definitely for you.  And yes, the title of the book…just read it to find out its meaning.
