About Thirty-Two Going on Spinster:

According to Webster’s dictionary,
A spinster is:
1: an unmarried woman of gentle family
2: an unmarried woman and especially one past the common age for marrying
3: a woman who seems unlikely to marry
4: me
Julia Dorning is a spinster, or at least on the road to becoming one. She has no social life, hates her job, and lives in her parent’s basement with her cat, Charlie.
With the arrival of Jared Moody, the new hire at work, Julia’s mundane life is suddenly turned upside down. Her instant (and totally ridiculous) crush on the new guy causes Julia to finally make some long-overdue changes, in hopes to find a life that includes more than baking and hanging out with Charlie.
But when the biggest and most unexpected change comes, will the new and improved Julia be able to overcome it? Or will she go back to her spinster ways?

My Thoughts:

This was a refreshing change of pace for me to read.  Some good clean romance was found in it’s pages and that is a rare find these days.  It was some great chick-lit.  I would not have thought this was Becky’s debut book, it was so well done.

The gist of the story was about Julia Dorning, a 32 year old single woman who is stuck in a job she hates, lives in her parents basement with her cat, and deathly afraid of change. She totally sees herself living a “spinster life” (and let’s face it, she was livin’ the stereotype *smirk*), at least until a new co-worker turns her world inside-out and upside down.

I loved Julia.  She was so funny and down to earth and I found I could relate rather well to her, especially some of her insecurities.  I said before this was a refreshing book and it was, both in the fact of it being a really clean book and how much Julia made me giggle.  It was great. *grin* Of course, she did not remain stagnate in her character and watching her adapt and change in relation to some of the events at work and at home was enjoyable as well.

I would have enjoyed a few more chapters near the end so it did not need to wrap up so quickly but all in all, I loved this story.  It was a quick read that held my interest easily and would make the ideal Summer read.

  1. I don’t watch a lot of romantic movies but I just finished watching The Host and I LOVED the love quad in the movie and I loved how the secondary guy fell for the “alien light being.”
