The Posse
Being a widow at the age of forty-four was never in Jude Hawthorne’s plans. After her husband’s death, she’s left with her family’s beach restaurant and two nearly-grown children. The last thing she’s looking for is another chance at love.
However, if her husband’s best friends, the Posse, have anything to say about it, love is just what she’s going to get. The Posse is determined to take care of Jude, and when they decide the best way to do that is for one of them to sweep her off her feet, three begin to vie for her affections. But only one can reach her heart.
In a story of friendship, loss and second chances, Jude will learn her life is far from being over.

As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, THE POSSE is unique among my books because it fell as a nearly complete story into my lap. Usually, my books begin with a character in a particular situation, and I watch it unfold. Not so with this one: I knew almost everything before I began to write.
One of the elements of this story I really love is the community. Jude and her kids have experienced loss and grief, but they have done so surrounded by friends who are tremendously supportive, including the posse, their wives and the people with whom Jude works. The relationships are deep and long-lasting. They care for one another and are there in ways I find very touching.
Community is particularly meaningful to me as an indie author. I love the way experienced authors reach out to newcomers, how often everyone works together to help midwife a book. We promote each other, because unlike other fields, we’re not in competition. As a wise writer said recently, “Someone who reads another author’s work is not going to say, ‘Aha! Now that I’ve read a book, I will never read another again.’ No, that reader is more likely to search for other stories and fall in love with more books.” In that way, we know that helping each other is only beneficial to the entire company of writers.
THE POSSE was a labor of community love, as one author-friend helped polish the blurb, another supplied the tagline, and still others weighed in on cover design. I am very blessed in my group of fellow journey-writers.
