Ever read a book from an author that you’ve never heard of?  Fell in love with the characters and couldn’t wait for the next one to come out?  Even asked the author because the ending of the first book’s ending left you screaming?  Yes, this is THAT author and I can tell you that this book is even better than the first.

Why?  Well, the character that I didn’t like in the first one is portrayed as younger and I didn’t hate her as much.  Did I like her?  Nope, but at least I didn’t want to slap her.  LOL!  And yes, this book is told in the present and 4 years in the past.  We get Sol and Michael’s story, plus what is happening with the girls and their lives.  I loved how Ms. Castle wrote this story.  It was interesting to see how Sol’s story from the past and the present run parallel to each other.  Plus, I loved getting to know all about her, her family and how a traditional Mexican wedding is put on.  Ms. Castle attention to detail is spot on.

I will have to say that reading about Josh and Kassie had me more than worried.  I don’t think that we are done with them in the least.   Especially since now Natalie has shown up and dropped a bombshell.  Ms. Castle, please don’t have Denise show up.  My heart can’t take.  Have her go to Sol’s house.  LOL!  Seriously. You just need to read both books to understand what I’m talking about but trust me, you don’t want one of these girls showing up at your door just when you think everything is going to be okay.

Overall, Ms. Castle has written a great book about women that I have come to love and respect.  Well, except for one but maybe, just maybe she will be redeemed at some point.  Because honestly, I don’t think her story is quite finished.  There were some things that happened in the past that I felt like should be explored more.

I do want to warn you that since the book takes place in the past and present, one of the heroines has sex with a different person that she is with in the present.  It makes sense.  Trust me, read the first book and you will see what I mean.

Ms. Castle is an author that needs to be paid attention to.  Her realistic dialogue, attention to detail and emotional characters will pull you in and not let you go.  I can’t wait for Nat’s book but really, no.more.bombshells at Kassie’s house.  😉

#Review of Unforgettable (Untouchables #2) by Cindy Skaggs w/a rafflecopter giveaway! @clskaggs

Untouchables #2
Publication Date: December 12, 2016
Genres: Adult, Entangled: Ignite, Romantic Suspense

Synopsis: Vicki Calvetti made it out of the mob—or so she hoped. But when the old family hitman, the FBI, the Justice Department, and a smoking hot man from her past crash land on her doorstep, she learns she’s not quite done.An undercover cop chasing revenge, Blake Reilly gets the shock of his life when Vicki walks back into his life and into his club full of more drug dealers than a pharmaceutical convention.

Catching up doesn’t take long, and their undeniable chemistry is full-speed-ahead until someone ends up dead, putting both their lives at risk unless Vicki can remember the secrets she paid to forget.

He looked… Damn fine. Black leather jacket covered muscles she could only imagine and his trousers showed off an ass so fine it could grace an underwear ad. What was the question? “I’m sorry?”

“You try to run, darlin’, I’ll hunt.” His eyes glittered. “And I like the chase.”

Her pulse jumped for all the wrong reasons. The thrill of the hunt was something she understood. Enjoyed on multiple occasions, but the challenge in his tone begged for a response. “I’m not going anywhere. With you.”

She walked to him with a swing to her hips and a sassy smile on her lips. When she got to him, she pressed a finger to his oh-so-firm chest. Her fingers itched to explore all his taut flesh. The man obviously worked out. “Make me.”

“Challenge accepted.” The bangles on her wrist jangled as he grabbed her wrist and pulled her close. “You wanna play?”

“Said the spider to the fly.”

He bent low, slow, torturing them both as their breath mingled. When he dropped—finally, finally—it was a slow glide as he brushed his lips across hers, relearning the feel of her, letting her rediscover him. Firm lips tempted as they slanted across hers, moved across her cheeks, leaving a trail of fire to her jawline. Her breath hitched when the hands at her hips pulled her close. The warmth of his hard body was the dream she tried to forget, but couldn’t. She wanted hard and commanding, something to dull her mind, but he moved slow, tangling lips and tongues.

This Blake was controlled where the boy had raced to the main event.

The years and the hurt and the world disappeared under his gentle assault. She drank him in, his breath, his tongue, the press of his lips. She gave herself to it, in anger for the lost years, the lost— Everything.

Lifting to her toes, she took her frustration out on him, forced the hard need into her kiss.

“Jesus,” he muttered. He nibbled along her jaw and down the side of her neck.

The pleasure hurt, the need like a fist in her chest. She struggled, pulled against his grip, but he held firm with one hand while the other swept her backside and lifted her close. The restriction of her hand trapped between them sent a burst of panic through her. She shoved against his chest.

“Nice try, darlin’,” he whispered as he bit her earlobe, “But you wanted to play.”

Where can I get one of those?  I’m talking Blake.  *fans self*  Jeez…that man is just…just…words can not describe him.  I have a new book boyfriend.  Dang…

Okay, on with the review.  A few things that you should be aware if you read this book.  This is a connected series.  Vicki is very important in the first book but she isn’t the book.  Understand?  Clear as mud?  In other words, If you want to see how the character of Vicki starts, then I would read the first book.  I didn’t but I wasn’t lost.  But I already had the first book and the novella in my library but didn’t read them beforehand.  I’m reading them now and WOW, just WOW!

Romantic Suspense is my favorite sub-genre to read.  I cut my romantic teeth on it and Ms. Skaggs does not disappoint me at all.  In fact, she surprised me with all the twists that she brought to the party.  I would have to say that there is one part that is actually gruesome and somewhat stomach turning but it is very necessary for Vicki to understand why Blake is the way he is and the why this is NO game.  She can’t manipulate her way out of this one.

Vicki is such a great character.  You somewhat read about the either almost TSTL heroine or the TSTL heroine in RS but not Ms. Vicki!  I loved her mouth, her conviction to who she was and what she wants to become, her loyalty to Sophia/Eli but mostly to fighting her feelings for Blake.  The chemistry is off the charts with them and I really liked that Ms. Skaggs used the trope, Second Chance with those two.  Perfection.

Blake is just OMG!  I love how in command he was of every scene that he is in.  You can’t help but be mesmerized by him.  I don’t think I’ve every read a more memorable hero in romantic suspense with the exception of Noah Clayborne from the mind of Julia Garwood.  He doesn’t take over but just his mere presence just holds you captive.

The mob angle in the book is not to be missed.  It’s not finished and I can’t wait to see how the whole story arc plays out.  Mick and Dez are in for one heck of ride.  (If that’s the next book…hint, hint)  I loved how Ms. Skaggs was able to weave it into the romance side of the story.  Captivating is a word I would use.

Don’t miss this series.  It’s a one of kind, in your face but always romantic.  The ending was too sweet and emotional.  It summed up Blake and Vicki’s relationship perfectly.

Despite the brothers. Anna and Brett rock!

Synopsis: Untouchables, #1.5

Sofia Capri survived life as a mob wife, but living with drop-dead gorgeous FBI agent Logan Stone has its own challenges. Step one? Host his family for Christmas dinner.

Rescuing Sofia from her former mob life and saving her kidnapped son was enough to earn Logan a place in her life, but a mysterious phone call before dinner threatens the security he’d give anything to provide.

When Sofia’s son and Logan’s nieces disappear from the festivities, the illusion of a normal Christmas shatters, hurling Sofia back into her nightmares.

Synopsis: Untouchables, #1

Action. Romance. Hot heroes. Don’t miss Ignite’s newest romance…

She’ll do whatever it takes to find her son – Lie. Cheat. Steal. Seduce…

As the former wife of an infamous crime boss, Sofia Capri is untouchable. She exists outside of the law…and outside of the criminal world. When her son is kidnapped, Sofia’s desperate to find him. She’ll do anything. Lie. Cheat. Steal. Anything but trust. But it’s a strikingly handsome FBI agent who’s her only chance to get her baby back…

Something about Sofia’s fiery beauty must be hitting all of his weak spots, because suddenly Mr. Law And Order Logan Stone finds himself bending the rules. When they’re implicated in the kidnapping, Logan and Sofia discover a horrifying reality – they have less than 72 hours to find the boy and clear their names.

Now the heat is turning up…and time is running out…for everyone.

Cindy grew up on stories of mob bosses, horse thieves, cold-blooded killers, and the last honest man. Most of those stories were even true. She has ten siblings, some of whom are older than her mother, has nieces and nephews older than her, and once went to a horse auction with John Wayne. Well, with him in the sense that he was there, and she was also… there. She was the munchkin in line for his autograph with tangled hair and bruised knees that liked to dance on her daddy’s dusty cowboy boots and listen to his tall tales.

With her love of storytelling and heroes, it’s no wonder she turned to books and stories after her father died. She skipped most of the eighth grade to bury herself in books while hidden in her closet, because she was still looking for the perfect story and the last honest man. Her search took her around the world with the Air Force as well as around the world with her education. She’s visited more countries than she can remember, nearly every state in the U.S., and has more degrees than the Tin Man.

As a single mom, she’s still gambling, betting on herself for the first time in her life, turning her lifelong love of storytelling into the one thing she can’t live without: writing. She writes 10,000 words a week in cafes and coffee shops, and some of those 10,000 words are even worth reading. She has an MA in Creative Writing, is working towards her Master of Fine Arts, and has three jobs, two kids, a Pushcart Nomination, more pets than she can possibly handle, and more works in progress than the crew filling potholes after a long Colorado winter.

He’s got to save his career—and himself

Hitting rock bottom has landed country star Boone Williams in the middle of his worst nightmare: a recording studio on a horse therapy farm hours away from Nashville. He has no interest in dealing with his problems or writing a new album. And he’s definitely not interested in the gorgeous, feisty mom of one of Helping Hooves’s young clients. She doesn’t even know who he is! But his record label is one tabloid story from cutting him loose, and Boone can’t seem to turn around without bumping into Ruby and her daughter, Violet. Clearly, Boone’s not going to get what he wants. Could Ruby be just what he needs?

GoodreadsAmazonBarnes & NobleHarlequin

This book is easily the best Heartwarming book that I’ve read all year.  And yes, I’ve read a lot of them.  Many by authors that I have read for years.  Ms. Vastine is a new to me author, so this came as a pleasant surprise.

Ms. Vastine wrote an emotional yet somehow funny book that tugged at my heart.  Here are my reasons why:

  1.  Teenage angst – Violet was a scream.  I could actually “see” the eye rolling at her mother.  And then we have Emma, Boone’s daughter.  I totally understood why she didn’t want to have anything to do with him.  But I also blame her mother, Boone’s ex for some of it.
  2.   The dialogue between Ruby and Violet.  Spot on and yes, I hope your daughter doesn’t get too upset with you later in life.  🙂
  3.   Boone – as a whole I really did like him.  I just wished that he had been a bit more assertive when it came to Dean and pushing the female singer on him.  I did, however, love his interactions with Sawyer.
  4.   Ruby – man, I wouldn’t want to meet her in a dark alley.  The cute meet with Boone is priceless.  Not to mention her thoughts afterwards.  Especially when talking to her friend Holly at the paper.
  5.   The secondary characters are well written and I can’t wait to see if Sawyer’s story is next.  Dean, though:  I might have to read his book to fully understand where he is coming from.
  6.   I’m not a horse person but I liked the scenes at the competitions.  I do like horses, though.
  7.   The exes in this book are just awful people.  They treat their daughters like complete crud and except their exes to bow down to them.  Not in this book.  Boone and Ruby finally have it out with their exes but it’s the teenagers that FINALLY get through to them.  In actions…not words.
  8. The romance is a slow build and it’s realistic.  Neither one of them wants to get involved but with the off-handed help of the teenagers…well, let’s just say, everyone is happy.

Overall, I can’t wait for other readers to find this story.  It’s perfection when it comes to the Heartwarming line.  It’s everything I want and surprised in the end.

The past will always be between them

He swore he’d never return home. Then a flat tire lands Dean Presley back in Grass Lake, Tennessee, and he’s forced to confront the woman he left behind. Faith Stratton was once the love of his life. Now her gifted brother could be the rising Nashville star Dean needs for his struggling music label. But it means taking Sawyer away from the horse therapy farm that Faith’s so proud of. That won’t be easy, especially since those old feelings that started all the trouble… Well, let’s just say he can’t go back there, because he doesn’t want to relive the memories of the terrible accident that drove them apart.
