About Samskaras:

When the universe conspired to bring Loti and Wolf together, it was just getting warmed up. After surviving Modore’s attempt to kill Wolf, the lovers want nothing more than some peace and quiet. But the universe has other plans. And Loti and Wolf are done waiting to find out what they are.
All too aware there will be no happily-ever-after for them until Modore is dealt with, they form a dubious alliance with untrustworthy forces from Wolf’s past. While searching for clues to the homicidal vampire’s whereabouts, they uncover secrets that begin to unravel reality as they know it.
Tangled up in the chaos of black ops conspiracies and fae treachery, they make a fatal mistake—overlooking the enemy in their midst. Can love and light survive a downward spiral into darkness?

My Thoughts:

As the second book in the Love and Light series, Samskaras was a terrific follow-up book.  I read and enjoyed Enlightened so figured that it was a safe bet I would enjoy this one as well.  I love Melissa (and her hair!) and her outlook on life.  I had a small problem though because (yes, showing my ignorance) I had no idea what the word Samskaras meant.  So I looked it up.  Turns out that samskaras is plural of sam·ska·ra, a noun referring to a purificatory ceremony or rite marking a major event in one’s life or deep impressions that comes from our past experiences and that we accumulate from our ongoing life experiences.  Seems like Samskaras is the perfect title for this book. 😉

Enlightened set the stage for the events of this book.  In it,  we learned of the failed assassination attempt on the Vampire named Wolf by the evil Vampire named Modore.  He wanted desperately to gain control on the Light Walker (Loti). In Book 2, Samskaras, everything goes downhill and fast.  Modore now wants to bond with Loti to gain immortality and increase his powers ten fold… a very bad idea.  In trying to make things better, Loti’s mate Wolf join some dark forces from his past and things go from bad to worse.  By this point in the book, I was exhausted!  Emotional Rollercoaster Central!  It was a serious page-turner and the ending left me smiling and wanting more. I cannot wait to see where Melissa takes us from here!

Should you read this as a stand alone novel or read Enlightened first?  Do your self a favor and read Enlightened first.  It gives you background in a way that will make Samskaras much more fulfilling.  All lovers of magic, witches, Vamps, and stories about Good and Evil are sure to devour this book!

About the Author

Melissa Lummis considers herself a truth seeker, a peaceful warrior, a paranormal and fantasy writer, an avid reader, a thru-hiker GAàME ’98, a wife, a mother, and a free thinker. She believes the universe conspires to help an adventurer. And if we live our lives as if it is a daring adventure (and it is!), then everything we need will find its way to us.
The author lives in rural Virginia with her husband, two children, an Alaskan Malamute and a myriad of forest creatures. The nature of her mind dictates that she write to stay sane. Otherwise, her fertile imagination takes off on tangents of its own accord, creating scenarios and worlds that confuse the space-time continuum.
Namaste, dear friends.

  1. Thank you so much for this wonderful review! I am so so glad you enjoyed both books. Book 3 is on its way (November isn’t that far away). In the meantime, check out the Love and Light short story Daylight Come in the anthology Eternal Summer. Chronologically, it comes right after Samskaras. Namaste!
