Sometimes love finds a way…
Miss Athena Hawthorne certainly hadn’t been looking for romance on that rainy day in London when her very existence crumbled before her. When she feels that life couldn’t get any worse, she stumbles into the very man that has the power to turn her unfortunate circumstances around.
When you least expect it…
Orion Ashcroft, the Earl of Rockford, offers Athena the chance to gain her vengeance by granting her a respectable position as a governess. What she doesn’t know is that he is plotting his own revenge against her. He believes that she is responsible for the theft of a priceless, family heirloom and he is determined to see it restored – no matter the cost.

I didn’t realize when I read this book that this is a debut. Yes, debut. I’m in awe of any author that publishes a book and when it’s a historical…just wow. I love to read historicals but I do not have the patience to research the facts that you will need for that historical romance. Something else, when I read a historical romance, I don’t care about the intimate details of the ton, etc. I just want the story.
This story is powerful, suspenseful, romantic, sexy and just all around just a great story. This book has it all and I’d be remiss to say that I’m so looking forward to the next installment of the series. Roarke is definitely going to have his hands full and I just hope that Rion is there to help him, just like Roarke was there to help Rion.
Oh yes, Rion. *swoon worthy* Tortured by his wanting of Athena but also to find the missing broach…loved how it finally had to reconcile what was more important. Love or revenge. I know, it sounds like every other plot point but Ms. Waite puts a great spin on it and when the suspense element picks up the pace…nicely done. Athena isn’t a wallflower. She knows her place in London’s society but it’s her tenacity to get to the truth that really shines for me. She doesn’t let up (which gets her into trouble more than Rion can cope with) but she also has a sweetness to everyone from the ton to the shopkeepers in the East End that makes her so believable.
Rion’s sister and brother in law in the story are awesome. They bring a richer point of view and valuable insight to the goings on with Rion and Athena, together and separately. Athena needs a friend and Rion needs someone to back him up. Speaking of backups, Roarke is the bomb. He almost steals the book away from Rion. He makes Rion see what’s important and what he needs to do. Plus, what’s a best friends supposed to do when his friend almost lets the love of his life walk away?
Speaking of which, Roarke’s book is going to be epic. The epilogue is just BRILLIANT!!! I never, ever saw that twist coming. Don’t worry about Athena and Rion. The epilogue belongs to Roarke and … Yes, I’m mean but it’s definitely worth it.
Go buy this book. Read it. You will thank me later. Do they find the missing broach? Not going to tell you. You have to read the book to find out. Now I just need to find out when Roarke’s book will be out.

About Tabetha Waite
Tabetha grew up in a small town with big dreams of seeing her name in print ever since her fourth grade teacher said she liked reading her stories. Starting out putting pen to paper before graduating to an antique typewriter, she used to sit at the kitchen table and invent all manner of stories from fantasy to mystery. It wasn’t until Tabetha was in high school did her grandmother mention reading the old Gothics of the sixties, along with the more modern Harlequins.
Once she opened these pages, Tabetha decided that romance was the genre for her. Combining her love of history, she started writing novels set in the American Civil War time period, but after learning of the Bronte sisters and Jane Austen, she fell in love with the beauty of England. “Why the Earl is After the Girl” is her debut novel and a dream come true. She is already busy writing the next book in her “Ways of Love” series, though she always makes time to respond to readers!
Tabetha lives in the Midwest with her husband and two daughters, and when she’s not writing, she’s working part time at the local community college as a lunch lady.
