“How the hell is this thing even real?” Sayo says, staring at the massive cat named Kibbles with disgust.
“Just don’t move too quickly!” I hold up a hand to advise caution. “You wouldn’t believe how fast she is.”
“What the hell did that girl feed it?”
“Actually, I called the vet, and it’s not Remi’s fault. She inherited the cat from her grandmother last year. She’s actually down five pounds. Maybe that’s why she has such a temperament.”
Sayo takes a step toward the beast, but a guttural hiss stopped her in her tracks.
“Are you sure you want to take care of this thing?” she asks.
“She’ll eventually go to a vet, but for now, it’s my…last connection to…”
All at once, we are silent. Sayo, Kibbles, and I stand staring at each other, not sure how to proceed.
Remi has no idea that I’m standing here thinking about her right now. That she hasn’t left my head. That I can’t sleep, and I’m now clinging to her obese cat like a security blanket.
Last night, in the desperate throws of sleeplessness, I decided I would try to cuddle the terrifying creature named Kibbles. I lured her to my apartment with Pounce treats, then nearly threw my back out lifting her, bringing her to my room, and hoisting her onto my bed. I work out pretty regularly, so the weight itself wasn’t an issue. It was how she jerked her solid mass of flesh that did me in.
It was a fight I couldn’t win, but I tried nonetheless. Now, my arms are covered in scratches, and a traumatized cat now stalks my apartment.
Oh, my word. This book. There is so much going on. Intrigue, romance, finding friends, family secrets and a girl genius. I smiled most of the way through this book just because of the outrageous situations that Remi and Gabe found themselves into. Yes, I got this from the author’s website and it sums up this book.
Sorry, Ms. Anderson for taking the picture. You said it perfectly. I even said to myself, this book is hilarious and it was. But underneath it all, it is a story about a girl being at the right place, right time and a boy that sees so much more in the girl that she sees in herself. See Remi is a huge fish out of water in the world. Her backstory is uplifting but sad in parts. Not to mention that she has to deal with a 30 lb cat that hates her and she believes to be possessed. Annalise and Meghan are just that girls that Remi needs to find herself as merely not as a mouse but as a person. The scenes of the Porn Star and Remi are priceless. Like rolling the floor priceless. I loved how Ms. Anderson was able to go past their preconceived notions of each other and become friends. I didn’t know what to think of Annalise in the being but I ended up loving her. I can’t wait to see more from her.
Gabe is so confused in this book. I won’t go into the gory details here but trust me, he has enough on his plate. Remi walks in and is his world is totally turned upside down. In a bad situation and falling in love with Remi is not what he had in mind but Remi is exactly what he needs. His mother is a hoot and the relationship that he has with Annalise is golden. You will understand once you read the book. Plus, he really does love Remi in the end. But how they get there is what’s entertaining.
The boardroom antics are classic. I loved how Ms. Anderson brought the old with the new into the scenes and how Tom figured into the whole plot of the book. The twist is phenomenal. I never thought of that but Ms. Anderson did and she wrote those scenes brilliantly. I literally had my bottom jaw slacked. I just can’t wait to see what happens in a future book.
Peeps this book is just tons of fun. It’s spicy but not overly. Remember that Remi is a fish out of water so dating and sex are not on her radar. The girls help her with that but in the end, Gabe is the one person to make Remi whole. The book is fast-paced and just plain fun. I think that you will love it as much as I did. Spend an afternoon with Remi and Gabe and fall in love.
