One word…TERRIFIC! If you have never read Ms. Doan, shame on you. She writes with an intensity in this book that you will literally be on pins and needles until you close your eReader. I love a good suspense/thriller and this book is one of the best this year. Plus, the subject matter that she chose to write about is relevant and you know that it happens every day.
Thalia is such a different character that I have read in RS. She is smart, sexy and doesn’t take crap from anyone. She knew going in that she might not make it out alive but that was okay with her. It was for a good cause and that’s the only thing that matter to her.
*hangs head* I didn’t read Second Chance where we are introduced to Grant and I will remedy that soon. Promise, D.L. 🙂 Poor Grant. All he wanted to do was to be left alone but instead Thalia washed up on his island. Meeting her would change is life in ways that he never saw it coming.
Seriously though what truly drew me into the story was the emotions that Ms. Roan drew out from her characters. She wrote them with layers and richness that most RS authors tend to forget about. You really got to know them as individuals and then as a couple. Yes, there is plenty o’sex in the book but it has a point to it. In some ways, that’s how they communicated but in the end it was their hearts that did that for them.
BTW, Winston…dear Lord…best secondary character that I have read in a very long time. 🙂
This book will keep you up at night with all the twists, turns and angst that you can handle in a suspense/thriller. The topic is great, the H/H are terrific and did I mention that Ms. Roan can write a book?

First Kiss
The sunlight sparkled like diamonds against the drops of water that beaded across Grant’s broad chest and raced along the cuts and dips between his washboard abs. His dark blue board shorts, soaked and clinging to his equally muscled thighs, hung low on his hips. A thin trail of golden curls raced between the hard lines of his narrow hips, disappearing beneath his waistband. Only a blind woman would miss the outline of his perfectly defined erection. Holy sin on a stick, he is packing.
His arms and legs moved with the grace of a jungle cat stalking its prey, the tight strands of muscles bunching and stretching beneath his skin with every step. His right hand was wrapped tight around the black grip of a pistol, the thick tendons in his wrist flexing as he tightened and loosened his grip. She followed the ripple of movement to his rounded shoulder, his neck, and then up to the chiseled lines of his face. Her lungs seized with feminine lust, mixed with a healthy dose of fear as she locked eyes with the lethal beast inside him. He’s going to kill me.
The fire in Grant’s eyes blazed with a heat as tangible as the sun’s rays beating relentlessly against her skin. She didn’t know the first thing about this man, other than the fact that he was dangerous and locked onto her like a fast moving freight train. He hadn’t hurt her yet, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t kill her. Still, she couldn’t make herself move or even look away. Something inside her was drawn to the beast residing within the man; to the absolute power and strength that wrecked her senses.
Paralyzed, she was powerless to resist as his hard, lean body crashed into hers, trapping her against his hot, wet skin. His hands tangled in her hair, his desperate grip holding her captive to his assault, his lips crushing against hers with frantic need.
