How can she forgive him for what he didn’t do?

Photographer Izzy Cooper feels as frozen as her pictures. Trent Palmer might be the hottest firefighter in Templeton Cove, but she can never face him again. Not after he failed to save her brother. But when they’re forced together by a calendar shoot, the sparks between them are undeniable.

Izzy knows it’s not fair to blame Trent for the tragedy, but opening herself up to loss again isn’t something she’s prepared to do, no matter how determined Trent is to show her that pain is part of life and that love—their love—can make any suffering bearable.

Excerpt #3

Izzy concentrated on selecting the appropriate lens, desperately trying to dispel the images of what Trent was doing from running through her imagination. Each image was more pornographic than the one before. Her heart skipped as the shower abruptly stopped, followed by his footsteps as he re-entered the studio.

She raised her head. Oh, for the love of God…

His black firefighter-issue trousers were tucked into steel-capped boots, red suspenders dangling, leaving his torso and chest bare. His thick, glossy hair matched the dark line running from his navel to the waistband of those stupidly, sexy trousers. Izzy licked her lips as her body hummed with arousal.

Mr. April…

The idea to douse Trent in an April shower had come to her in the middle of the night. A sexily splendid idea. She’d battled with the decision to change the design over and over––but had kept to her creative plan. How the hell was she to know how much his glistening skin would turn her on?

“You want me on the sheets, right?”

“We’ll start there, yes.”

He grinned, his eyes dancing in such a happy and sexy way, Izzy fought to maintain every ounce of willpower not to jump him there and then. Instead, she stepped forward and put her eye to the camera lens, taking in more of what her mind and body had already been exposed. Her mouth drained dry. God, he was beautiful. The golden-bronze sheen of his skin, the hardened ridge of his wide shoulders leading down to arms, sinewy with muscle and tendons. A body like his wasn’t something a woman saw on a daily basis.

She took a few shots, before pulling back and meeting his cool, green gaze. “Step toward the back a little. That’s it. I need a bit of breathing space.”

He smiled. “Got it.”

Biting back her smile, Izzy returned to the camera, her heart beating out of control. His voice––and smile––were torture as she continued with her plan of slow seduction. The plan wasn’t working in quite the way she anticipated. Trent had the benefit of being covered in water, whereas she was burning up…everywhere.

Oh my…Ms. Brimble has really outdone herself when it comes to the Templeton Cove series.  As much I loved Jay and Cat (favorite couple in the series), Izzy and Trent are giving them a run for their money.   Trent and Izzy don’t have it easy as a couple.  Each one comes with grief and the baggage that comes with it.  Both are grieving for Robbie, Izzy’s brother and Trent’s best friend in the beginning.  I really felt for both of them but Trent was living through it much better than Izzy.

Izzy managed to push everyone in the town, her own parents, best friend Kate and even Trent out of her life.  At first, I didn’t like that about Izzy.  We’ve all dealt with grief at some point in our life but what Izzy did and NOT talk about it to anyone was very unhealthy.  Good ol’ Trent just coming back for more disappointment and I didn’t understand why he was doing that.  Trent has his own secret that really threw me for a loop.  I didn’t see it coming but that’s when the lightbulb went off for me when it came to Trent.  After that, I really was rooting for him to win Izzy back.

There is a bunch going on in the book.  Jay asking Izzy to manage an art gallery that he just bought, getting back into Kate’s good graces and finally having the talk with her parents.  I really felt that Izzy grew a lot in the book.  It was just a very slow process for her and I understood why Ms. Brimble wrote it that way.  Izzy needed to figure it out all out for herself.  No outside (Trent) suggestions.

Trent has got to be the MOST.PATIENT.MAN. EVER.  His love for Izzy ran deep, even when Izzy couldn’t see it.  Plus, his profession is a huge thing for Izzy.  I could understand that, too.  The scenes near the end of the book…my heart stopped.  Literally stopped.  I almost cursed Ms. Brimble for that but it made perfect sense.  Izzy needed to realize that Trent could give something up just for her and be fine with it.  Izzy just couldn’t understand the “why”.

I will warn you that is possibly Ms. Brimble’s longest book but it is so worth it.  She writes so beautifully that you just get lost in the words and the world that is Templeton Cove.  We get Marian again.  Love that woman and we meet some of the other firefighters at the house.  I will admit that there are some truly sad moments in the books but they are necessary for the romance between Izzy and Trent to be realistic.

Again, Ms. Brimble is an auto author for me.  I have read everything that she is put out there and her writing just gets better and better.  Seeing Jay in this book…yep, I’m re-reading Finding Justice.  *sigh*
