Excerpt #2:
“Come in,” he called when she knocked.
Allison stepped into the room, closing the door behind her.
His head was tipped back against his chair as he stared at the ceiling.
“Am I interrupting?”
Her voice brought his attention to her, and the smile she received had her heart fluttering again.
“Not at all. I was just thinking.”
“Slow day?”
“Haven’t had one of those in a while, eh?” He tapped a file on his desk. “I was going to call Bill about these figures when I remembered he’s on vacation till next week.”
“Then you’ve got some time.” She moved to the side of his desk.
“Something like that.” His eyes dropped to the page in her hand. “What can I do for you?”
So many things. She cleared her throat and pushed the thought back. They were at the office. Innocent thoughts only.
“I thought I should check Sam’s quote with you.”
His brows rose in surprise as he reached for the paper.
“You know I trust you with these details.”
She leaned a hip against his desk as he skimmed over the figures.
“You did well. Sounds like an excellent deal to me.” He held the paper back out to her.
“Oh, good.”
When she didn’t reach for the paper, a smile tugged at his lips. “Or was there something else you wanted?”
“I’m having a slow day, too.”
The smile deepened. “And?”
“And…” She huffed out a breath. “I don’t know. I wanted to see you. Is that against the rules?”
He studied her for a long moment before tipping his head. “Yes.”
Pain stabbed into her chest. This had been a silly mistake. She knew very well what boundaries he’d set.
“Sorry, I’ll—”
He held up his hand to silence her. Gesturing for her to stay where she was, he walked to his door and turned the lock.
“It’s against the rules,” he said as he sauntered back toward her. “At work we need to focus on business. Outside the office we can play.”
“I get that. I just…”
He stopped in front of her. “Just what?”
She shrugged. “Missed you.”
“Dammit.”
Before she could say another word he hauled her into his arms.
Lookey! It’s another crack book for me. 😉 I just love Indulgence books and the authors that write them. But I will have to say that this book stood out a little bit more for me. Oh, and it’s a Victoria Davies book, too. Score!
This book could have come over as your typical admin/boss relationship turned to lovers trope but Ms. Davies put a twist with one of your characters and it just sucked me in deeper. Oh yes, it was with the heroine and not the hero. In fact, I had to really warm up to the hero, Darian. It’s not that he was an arse, mean or just plain “just there”, he just didn’t hold anything special for me in the beginning.
Allison, meanwhile, I liked from the beginning. I knew from the get-go that there was something more underneath all those clothes and nice manners. She is one naughty woman. She took charge in the bedroom and normally that doesn’t happen in an Indulgence book. At least not like Allison did in this book. Ms. Davies wrote Allison has a very complex character that had heart, smarts, sex appeal and a thing for being naughty when it came to Darian. Oh yes, the smexy times were just that…smexy and hot!
Darian at first, didn’t know what to think about Allison when it came to them getting together. I don’t think I will think of a stairwell scene again like I read between Allison and Darian. I also liked that it took his sister, Jenny, to finally knock some sense into him. She was the one woman that knew the real reason why he never got emotionally close to another woman and I found it fitting that it was her and not a male that finally got through to him.
I would be remiss to not mention the wedding planning scenes. Some of then laughed out loud funny and poignant at the same time. I really wished I could have gotten married there. It sounded so beautiful and serene. Plus, come on, who wouldn’t want a venue like that.
Overall, another winner from the Indulgence line from Entangled and again, the bonus was that it was from Ms. Davies. I love her books. Emotional, funny and swoon-worthy in the end.
ABOUT VICTORIA DAVIES
Victoria Davies’s passion for writing started young. Luckily she had a family who encouraged believing in magic and embracing imagination. From stories quickly scribbled in diaries, her love of storytelling developed. Since then her characters may have evolved and her plots may have grown decidedly more steamy but she never lost her love of the written word. Writing is not only a way to silence the wonderful voices in her head, but it also allows her to share her passions with her readers.
Currently she writes from Toronto, Canada. While she has a healthy love for the unknown, this corner of the world will always be her home.
