Curtis “CC” Clark burned out from life in the fast lane. Switching gears, he moves to a small town in search of some cosmic signpost to reveal his destiny and crosses paths with the only girl he’s ever loved. But he’s worried fate sent him into the pits when he finds out she’s engaged.

Between working at the same animal shelter and her engagement crumbling, Holly can feel old desires stirring. But before they can pick up speed, CC gets his big chance for a high-profile comeback. And returning to the road may mean giving up his beloved forever.

Can CC and Holly find common ground and take their love across the finish line?

Excerpt One:

Curtis Clark stepped back to scrutinize his work. The split rail fence he’d just built was kick-ass…the rest of his life, not so much.

Taking a gulp of water, he frowned. Life was like a nightmare he couldn’t wake up from. Two months ago, he’d been living the dream racing in the NASCAR Truck Series, and now he was doing random carpentry jobs. He rubbed at the tight feeling in his chest and got back to work. He’d just placed the next piece of wood when something fuzzy brushed against his leg. He jerked back and then laughed when a wriggling black Lab squeezed in between him and the fence.

“Hey, there.” CC squatted down to rub the Lab’s neck and was rewarded with a doggie grin. “Where did you come from?”

The dog licked his face, eliciting happy memories from CC’s childhood. “You’re a sweet girl,” he cooed after taking a peek to determine gender. “Are you a stray?”

“She’s not a stray.”

His mind and body vibrated like his truck engine at the beginning of a race. He hadn’t heard that female voice in over ten years, but it was ingrained in his heart and his soul. He couldn’t turn around, couldn’t move, couldn’t even breathe.

Holly Nicholson—his high school sweetheart, the love of his life…the woman who had shattered his heart.

CC.  Holly.  Curtis.  CC.  Holly.  Two childhood sweethearts that never stopped loving each other.  I’m giving anything away by telling you that.  The tropes are there:  childhood sweethearts and a second chance.  Ms. Sutton puts a huge spin on it with the focus on the heroine and her hang-ups.  I don’t read a lot of books where the heroine is the one that is holding out on the hero.  Normally, it’s the other way around.  I really appreciate reading it because it was different and I needed different.

Anyways, I really liked this book.  It was sweet, emotional and lighthearted all at the same time.  Holly and Curtis are two people that are still in love with each other after all these years.  It’s flitting either.  Its the deep, soul-stirring love.  The one love that never goes away.  They have it in spades but Holly’s perception of her childhood gets in the way of totally reconnecting with Curtis.  Look, I understand the life of a racecar driver and AJ and Ella make it work (love seeing them again in the book) but Holly just goes for the worst-case scenario when it comes to Curtis.  Curtis is trying his best with Holly but I felt like Ms. Hutton tried a bit too hard to keep them apart.  I felt like the last chapter was a bit rushed but it does wrap up all three books just nicely.

Ms. Hutton does a great job with her characters.  The meditation that is discussed in the book is something that I would definitely look into for myself.  Skye (LOVE HER) talks about it when working with Rob (major swoon) and I really need to look into it.  Skye is a great sounding board for her cousin.  Holly needed that different perception about her childhood and Skye helped her fill it in.  So I bet you are wondering why I’m not talking about Curtis that much?  He’s not perfect but his character doesn’t need the growth that Holly does in the book.

I can’t believe the series is done.  I’ve seen all three couples and a couple of secondary couples ride off into the sunset.  Set against the backdrop of NASCAR racing isn’t an easy sport to write about.  Ms. Hutton did her homework and it shines through in every book.  Pick this series up, you won’t be disappointed.

  1. Thanks to everyone who’s stopped by this tour! In Restart in Bristol, Skye is Holly’s cousin, and a bubbly positive secondary character. Her life philosophy is: You get what you contribute. If you help others, help shows up for you. If you want to be happy, surround yourself with happy people. When you experience a setback, believe it happened for a reason and the universe has something better in store for you. Any thoughts on this philosophy?

  2. Thank you for sharing your book, it sounds great and I’m glad I got to hear about it.

So what do you think?
