BLURB:

Lights…camera…magic!

Sabrina Parker has spent her professional life creating unbelievable stunts and magical effects for movies and stage magicians. Now she needs some special magic to help her bring her movie to life. Her search leads her to the very unlikely stage of Walt Bryson, host of a long-running children’s television show in Beaufort, North Carolina.

Walt isn’t terribly happy about taking Hollywood’s call. He’s never sought the same notoriety as his colleagues Ian Logan and Andre Hawke. But there’s something about the beautiful, levelheaded Ms. Parker, and when he reads her screenplay, he knows he wants to work with her. For the first time in years, he’s willing to put tragedy behind him and make real magic.

Can Walt and Sabrina use love as their guide or will their past mistakes haunt their future?

Excerpt One:

“How long can you stay?”

He drew away and looked at her in amusement. “I’m here all night.”

“No, I mean this trip. How long is it?”

“Just til day after tomorrow, why?”

She couldn’t hide her disappointment. “Oh. Okay.”

He sat up on his elbows, looking down at her. “Why do I get the feeling that’s not the answer you wanted from me?”

She shook her head, trying—too late—to reassure him. “No, it’s just that Dylan has this actor who’s looking at a part in the movie. The male lead. And it’s kind of a big thing for the movie, and if you were there, you could see if he would even be able to learn the tricks. You know. For the movie. But it’s not—”

“I can stay.”

“What?” She looked at him incredulously.

“I can stay.” He brushed her hair back from her face with a gentle smoothing motion. “The show’s wrapped up, and I’ve got no plans for the rest of my life. What’s another couple of days?”

“Oh. Fantastic.” She relaxed into his arms. “That means there’ll be more time for this, then.”

“And that is the best news I’ve heard all day.”

The first book to be reviewed in 2018.  I’m glad it I picked this one to be it.  I adored this story.  It’s magically.  I know, sounds cliched since it revolves around magic but it truly is.  I loved how Ms. Flye uses imagery in the telling of Walt and Sabrina’s story.  Plus, come on.  Their names.  Walt and Sabrina.  All I could think about is Walt Disney and Sabrina, the Teenage Age Witch.  BTW, I loved Sabrina.  But I digress.  Also, the setting in the small town is perfect, too.

So, while I loved the story, I did have some issues.  Just minor ones.  I didn’t like the whole Collette subplot.  While she is necessary for Walt to finally move on with his past, I felt like in the end that her part of the story could have ended after the storm.  She just felt like she was being the “other woman” and I wish that Walt had owned up to his feelings about her to Sabrina earlier.  Another thing that bothered me was how Walt and Sabrina danced around their feelings for too long.  Their romance is strong but the back and forth, will they or won’t they because of their work kinda bugged me a bit.

What felt really real to me was Sabrina’s relationship with Dylan.  At first, I thought it was kinda creepy but in the end, Dylan just wanted Sabrina’s movie to just do well.  Which leads me to the auditions.  Ms. Flye had me at the tattoos.  I don’t think I’ve ever been that invested in a secondary character before and I had actual tears.  While I had problems with Walt and Sabrina’s romance going back and forth, it felt real to me.  I could understand the “why”.  The scene at Walt’s house…*swoon*  Ms. Sabrina had game and I loved it.

This is a great stand-alone romance.  I haven’t read the others one in the series and trust me, you don’t need to.  However, I just loved how Ms. Flye writes.  Her characters are great and her imagery like I’ve never experienced before from an author.  I can’t wait to read more from her.  This is a definite keeper for me.  Plus, it has pirates.  Yes, pirates.  And a Johnny Depp reference.
