Excerpt Three:

This was getting painful. His hipbones were jabbing sharply into hers. He was trying to prop his elbows on either side of her to keep his body weight off, but his arms were wedged in tight and not doing the best of jobs. He probably felt like one of the larger variety of livestock on top of her. Yeah…

A grimace crossed her mouth. She opened her knees to the full allowance of the space to gain some relief. The movement created an opening between her thighs, and zuuuup—he slid right into it. His dick and balls, hanging free in a pair of super-loose pajama pants, not even a pair of underpants—which had disappeared with the rest of his clothes—to offer support, had no other place to go but forward. His whole package snuggled flush against her crotch, and…

Instant heat flood.

He parted his lips, a curse forming. He couldn’t imagine worse or more mortifying timing, but he went hard. Just…inflated, as if his dick was attached to a bicycle pump. He clamped his eyes shut, and, behind the backs of his lids, pictured himself leaping out from under the desk and waving his arms at the tangoes. Hey, here I am. Kill me now. The ensuing execution might be better than this. A bead of sweat crept down his temple. Maybe Farrin would do him a favor and not notice.

He checked eyes with her, and— Oh, she’d noticed.

Dang, this book was good.  I normally don’t start off a review like that but I had to.  Normally, I start off with the all the flowery stuff but there is nothing flowery about this book.  It’s gritty, raw, heartbreaking and fast paced.  The action never stops in the book.  I will have to say that this is a twofer one book though.  Let me explain.  Shane and Jason are childhood buddies, went through training together but then an op went bad and for ten years that didn’t speak.  On this mission together, they decide to heal the wounds that split them apart and realized that their friendship was still solid.  I really liked how Ms. Tappan wrote this.  It’s not often that a romance writer takes a chance on two males and what drove them apart and get this…it’s not a woman.  Bravo!

I truly did like the whole concept of the book.  Ms. Tappan knows her stuff when it comes to the military but I also liked reading about Farrin and her job, too.  It was interesting.  Plus, Ms. Tappan doesn’t bog the story down with a bunch of unnecessary details about the ops, the IMHR and the traitor amongst them.  Its action packed like doesn’t let up.  You know, the kind of book that doesn’t let you take a breath.  I love romantic suspense and I’m slowly starting to read true Military Romantic Suspense and I can’t wait to gobble up her back list.  In fact, once Shane’s book is up, I plan on buying it.  I must know who will tame, I mean love him.  😉

Farrin is one tough cookie.  Anyone that works in the field she does and still finds the good in it.  My hat is off to you.  Plus, Jason didn’t stand a chance with her.  LOL!  Plus, their romance progressed differently than I’ve ever read.  It wasn’t instant but sweet.  Plus, you have to like the humor that she wrote in, too.  The excerpt above is just one example.

Overall, I really did like the book, the characters, plot and I also found a new author to read.  I can’t wait to read Shane’s book.  Off to shop her back list.  Thank you to Goddess Fish for suggesting that I read this book.  They know me so well.
