About Mad About You:

Accountant Cassy Morris knows she’s putting her heart on the line when she agrees to move in with her best friend, multi-millionaire geek Scott Thornton while she manages his nanotechnology lab and finds an angel investor for his revolutionary new product. She’s loved him forever even though he’s only ever regarded her as a friend. But Cassy never could refuse Scott anything…

When Scott is named Seattle’s sexiest man, the attention from women threatens to get in the way of him finishing his pet project and putting it on the market. Cassy steps up once again and pretends to be his fiancé. A lifetime of repressed sexual tension explodes in a passionate affair. Soon Scott is wondering how he can convince Cassy to turn their fake engagement into reality…

bookreview

Wow, just OMG WOW!  I love friends to lovers but this one goes much deeper in the characterizations, emotional depth and plot.  Their story starts off when they are kids when Scott moves into the neighborhood after his mom has passed away.  The lemonade stand, cookies and Scott finding his best friend for life.

There is so much going on in the book between Scott and Cassy.  Its subtle to the reader (love that) and you really need to pay attention to their actions, not words.  So much can be said without a single piece of dialogue.  That’s what made Scott and Cassy’s story so much better.  They were friends first but you could also see the love that they had for each other, too.  They completed each other but didn’t know it at first.

I couldn’t even begin to understand what Scott had created but it didn’t matter.  What matter was the relationship that they were trying to build with each other.  This is more than the friends with benefits trope.  This is true and everlasting love but sometimes, to quote Megan Hart…”Sex is messy.”  And yes, I agree.  It can complicate things and it does for Scott and Cassy.  Cassy is the first to admit (to herself) that she is in love with Scott and always has been.  I really felt for her.  Every relationship that she had with other men never measured up to Scott and she could finally see that.  Scott…he’s a tougher nut to crack.  Between his abandonment issues with his dad, not wanting to lose Cassy as a friend and then his product launch…Scott doesn’t know what to do.  He makes mistakes, takes her for granted and loses her.

Ian, Scott’s dad, is a very welcome secondary character.  Normally, I don’t like the whole parental abandonment issue but Ms. Kilby writes this beautifully and emotional.  It really shows how the issue will cloud someone’s ability to love some one else and I felt bad for Scott.  It showed real character depth when Scott realized what was really truly holding him back with Cassy.

I could go on and on about Scott and Cassy’s story.  Its emotional and sexy without the angst of two friends finding out that they loved each other.  Ms. Kilby also does a great job of weaving their back story into the present when pressed for details about their relationship to the press.  🙂  Mad About You is shear perfection in the friends to lovers trope that I love so much.

Oh…and yes, I’ve read Ms. Kilby’s Superromance’s from Harlequin…perfection, too.

About Joan:

When I’m not working on a book I can often be found sipping a  latte at my local cafe and indulging my favorite past-time of people watching.

Growing up in Vancouver, Canada, I always wanted to be a writer. In university I took a detour to study marine biology. I worked as an environmental biologist for many years until the birth of my first child.

I loved staying at home with my kids because not only could I  raise them myself but I could indulge my first love — writing. I soon realized story-telling was what I was always meant to do.

Twenty years later I’m still hooked on writing. I’ve published over twenty-five books with Harlequin. I’m now writing for Entangled Publishing and have a couple of self-publishing projects on the go.

I live in Melbourne, Australia, with my husband and three grown children. As well as writing and hanging out in cafes (Melbourne has the best coffee!) I go to the gym, walk my dog, cook, hike, garden, swim and read. I belong to Toastmasters Club and numerous writing organizations.
