Excerpt Two:
He grasped her hand and brought it to his lips. He kissed her so delicately that she thought she would faint on the spot. His touch was warm, light and inviting and he was only kissing her hand. She imagined how his kiss would feel on her lips and the rest of her body. What was going on with her? She felt like she was completely losing her mind.
“No Lily,” he said. “The pleasure was all mine.” He paused for a moment. “Would you like to have dinner with me tonight? That is, if you don’t have to head home right away to Orchard Park.”
Lily hesitated. She had been on a few casual dates since her divorce six months earlier but she had never been asked out by a complete stranger. Most of the one-date-only events she had attended had been set up by sympathetic friends, just trying to help her get on with her life. But none of the nice yet ordinary men had made her feel the way she did right now.
Electricity was crackling between them, she was certain of it. She felt a strong, unexplained connection to him even if her rational side was telling her it wasn’t a smart idea to get involved with this guy.
This book couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m taking my first cruise in 9 days. Cozumel, Belize, and Honduras here we come. Hubby thought this was the perfect 50th birthday present for me. LOL! I’m still in shock because hubby doesn’t do crowds and he has never said that he wanted to go on a cruise. I’m stoked and can’t wait. No dog, no kid, no internet but the Nook and Kindle are full of books…if I have time. LOL! But seriously, something else this book brought to mind was the Love Boat. I know, cheese at it’s best but I kept humming the theme song at times.
What I really liked about this book were the characters. Lily and Nicholas were two people that I would have been friends with. Nicholas wasn’t the typical billionaire; in fact, he could have cared less about the money when it came to Lily. Lily completed him and he knew it. He just had to convince her of that despite his reputation. And trust me, that was not an easy job for him. Lily is stronger than she thinks. I realize that the surprise half way during the book through her for a loop but I knew that she could it. I just wish that that bit of information had come sooner to Nicholas than later.
At first, I thought this book would be an instalove romance the way it started but after that, it took it’s time to unfold. Lily had major trust issues and has much as she didn’t want to admit it, she loved Nicholas from the start. He cherished her, romanced her and treasured her. Something that she didn’t get from her ex-husband. I also liked that Nicholas had to work even harder for her love. The story itself is a tried and true concept but Ms. Randle kept the story to only two characters: Lily and Nicholas. Yes, we get secondary characters but they aren’t really part of the story except for a bit of conversation that they had with either Lily or Nicholas. I liked that, too. Nothing to weigh the story down with too many names to remember, scenes to rehash, just a good old-fashioned character driven romance.
I can’t wait to see if Ms. Randle writes about Nicholas’ two brothers. They definitely have stories to tell and considering Colin is a party animal and the one (can’t remember his name) just got out of a long term relationship, I see the potential.
