GENRE:  second chance romance

BLURB:

Time is ticking on this second chance at romance…

With a recent promotion and loads of confidence, Chloe Stevens has landed in sunny LA as a sales director for a leasing company. Quickly picking up on successful business strategies, Chloe also zeros in on a challenging romance option, Zane Shepard, an LA city planner. Chloe and Zane quickly discover an intriguing lust/love attraction, eventually transforming it into the perfect relationship.

After a year, Chloe is ready to take the next step, cohabitation, but instead, Zane blindsides her with the unexpected news of a breakup.

After months of sleepless nights doubting herself, Chloe decides their breakup stemmed from the issue of bad timing; she was ready to commit and he wasn’t. Armed with her theory of choosing future relationships based on matching timelines, Chloe packs up her damaged heart and moves home to Dallas.  She quickly lassos a new love interest, Trey Morgan; a boyfriend with good timing who’s ready to take the plunge.

Twenty years later, Chloe’s world unravels when she discovers her marriage to Trey is riddled with infidelity and lies. Taking on a new job, she’s forced to confront her past and rebuild the confidence she had in spades when she was younger. Unexpectedly, she has a chance to take a second stab at romance but finds her good timing mantra severely tested.

Excerpt Three:

“Holy shit, Jill. I almost lost it when Zane walked in the room. You do remember me talking about him in the past, right?”

“I wasn’t sure.  But I could tell something was happening to you. I didn’t know if you were thinking about Trey, having a migraine, heart attack, or what. You were acting weird.”

I worriedly placed my hand over my heart. “It’s beating so fast right now; I may be having a panic attack. Can you imagine having a man out of your past, the most perfect boyfriend ever, walk into an interview after twenty years? I assumed I’d never see him again. I feel like a fucking teenager.”

“Hate to tell you, you’re a middle-aged lady probably having a hot flash. You better keep those thoughts to yourself.

Gosh, I miss living in Dallas at times.  I grew up there and have the battle scars to prove it, but I digress.  This book was just what I needed right now.  It brought a smile to my face, made me somewhat yearn for home but more importantly, let me know that no matter what happens in your life, a second chance is right around the corner.

I just loved how Ms. Candas wrote it.  It’s written in the past and also in the present.  You really get to know Zane and Chloe when they were younger and now.  I loved them both equally.  I can’t even imagine waking up one day and everything that you thought was right, is wrong.  Don’t get me wrong.  Trey isn’t the true villain here but is the catalyst for Chloe’s second chance at everything in her life.  Trey could have been a bigger douche canoe but Ms. Candas does somewhat redeem him.  Sorta and that’s all I’m going to say.  I especially liked her daughter, too.  Grown-up but not and not ready for her mother to date anyone.

Chloe’s new boss, Red is a hoot.  One thing that though, didn’t like the whole interior designer plot point with Tag.  Felt unnecessary but that’s just me.  Loved Jill, too.  Great sounding board for Chloe and a true friend.  I even liked the doctor in the end.  He was weird at first but I found him endearing just the same.

Chloe and Zane were perfect for each other.  Sometimes that second chance comes much later in life and I’m glad that Ms. Candas made sure that they had life experiences before they met up again.  Makes for a sweeter reunion.  The whole “we have 20 minutes” is hilarious.  And yes, you can do a lot in 20 minutes.  LOL!

Peeps if you are looking for a grown-up second chance at romance, this is it for you.  Ms. Candas hits all the buttons with this one and I can’t wait to re-read it again.  Plus, now I want to go to Lake Texoma again.  I miss that lake.  *sigh*

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

I’m a Texas girl: grew up in San Antonio, went to school at UT in Austin, and settled in Dallas where I raised a husband, two kids, and a few cats. My husband and cats will probably disagree on who raised who, but I’m a sucker for a robust discussion.

For years I’ve been involved in retail management, but have also really enjoyed writing, taking deep dives into the lives of my characters. When you can pry my fingers off the keyboard, I’ve been known to imbibe in a few glasses of wine and have been spotted forking into some decadent desserts while gathering with friends and family. I enjoy shopping, usually on the hunt for apparel with a weakness for shoes, and will frequently jump at the opportunity to take an unexpected trip to a far-away place.

In addition, there’s always time for reading. I keep a stack of novels ready and waiting on my nightstand, with a few tapping their toe in my Kindle as well. I bounce around genres, snoop around the best-seller lists, and the ready for a good recommendation.
