Book Summary:
Mafia princess turned canine couturier Lucie Rizzo knows dogs are woman’s best friend. Thanks to her fashion-forward four-legged clients, Lucie’s dog walking/designer pet accessory business is booming. And for once her love life isn’t far behind.
Lucie devotes her days to building the Coco Barknell brand, but her nights are all about roguishly sexy Tim O’Brien. At least they will be if she and Detective O’Hottie finally take their relationship to the next level. But bring an Irish cop home to her mobster father? Fuggetaboutit.
Lucie’s knack for finding trouble lands her in the doghouse—and on the six o’clock news. Someone’s absconded with a million-dollar piece of cinematic costume history, with Lucie the only witness to the crime. Not to mention the prime suspect. To clear her name, she’ll need an assist from her entire wacky crew: friends, family…and future (hopefully) lover.

A wet tongue slapped across her cheek. The bonus of working for dogs.
“Aw, you two are the cutest.” A middle-aged woman hoofed down the sidewalk wearing a flowy skirt, an equally flowy blouse and a long cardigan against the late afternoon wind. She carried a briefcase in one hand.
Lucie scratched Fin’s snout before standing tall. “He’s a good boy and deserved some love.”
The woman stopped just a few feet away. “Can I pet him?”
Something in Lucie’s spine fused. After the dognapping of the Ninja Bitches last spring, she didn’t take to strangers wanting to come near her clients. The woman must have sensed Lucie’s sudden-onset Terminator and gestured to the auction house behind her.
“I’m Estelle. I manage Bendorf Auctions. I’ve seen you out here with this cutie.”
Lucie let out a long, silent breath. “Fin.”
“Sorry?”
“His name is Fin. You can pet him. Sorry. I’m protective.”
Estelle glanced at Lucie’s messenger bag with the screen print of a winking poodle wearing a diamond collar. The Coco Barknell logo created by the fabulous Ro, aka Lucie’s best bud. And currently the squeeze of Joey, Lucie’s ape of a brother. Blech.
“You’re a dog walker?”
“Yes. I’m Lucie from Coco Barknell. We also have a line of dog accessories.” Lucie slipped one of her business cards from the easy-access front pocket of her bag. There’d been a time when she’d been too shy to even tell people about her fledgling business.
Lucie, Lucie, Lucie. How does she always seem to dig up trouble without any help? Somehow she does and Ms. Giordano seems to always bring Lucie into the fray of some the wackiness scenarios that I have ever read.
This time, we are treated to Lucie and a peacock feathered dress. Seriously? I don’t think I ever stopped laughing or grinning from that moment on. While this book is a mystery, it is also funny. I will have to say that this book, while it is a mystery, deals more on Lucie’s relationships with her dad and Tim, her boyfriend. Now, don’t think its all emotionally and angst ridden, its not. But we get to see Lucie’s relationship with Tim, the cop really develop here. We get to see them finally have smexy time together and see their true feelings for each other.
Now, if you are following the series then you know that Lucie had a boyfriend in the first book named Frankie. While I liked him, Lucie realizes with Tim that her relationship will be different, more grown up and what she really wants. Its heartwarming to see their growth as a couple even though there are times that I thought Tim would have a stroke. 😉
Lucie’s dad plays a huge role in the book. Between finding what he needs to do with just himself and his family but also his relationship with his daughter and her new boyfriend, the cop. I knew that Mr. Rizzo and Tim’s first meeting would either be funny or weird and it was both. They both have a healthly respect for each other and only want Lucie to be happy. This is a huge step for Mr. Rizzo considering hsi feelings for Frankie. He comes across as a neanderthal but underneath it all, he cares deeply for Lucie and her happiness. But doesn’t any father, regardless of what he is or was to the outside world? *sniff*
Ro and Joey are back and hilarious as ever. Those two just crack me up but are so intergral to the delevopement to Tim and Lucie’s relationship. Watching their relationship grow is a treat, too.
I realize that this series isn’t a “true” romance but you really need to give Lucie, Tim, Ro, Joey and the dogs a chance. You will laugh, sniff and above all fall deeply, madly in love with them.
