Will love conquer and bring them together after Gabrielle returns home?
What a book. I can’t decide if it was a true NA (New Adult) or just a regular contemporary romance with a dash of paranormal and suspense. Oh yes, there is suspense. I will say it is NOT the scary kind. More of a mystery element and I loved it. ms. Gadbois didn’t overdue that nor did she have a heavy hand when it came to the paranormal. What she delivered was a well-balanced debut novel that I devoured in one day. I know, I did have to eat and shower.
I really did Gabby and Rick. They were a sweet couple and one that I rooted for throughout the book. They had their issues. One was that Gabby lived in Canada, went to university (college) and wasn’t supposed to break down in St. Clair. Rick was older, law man and lived in the US. But what the heart wants, the heart wants. What was interesting about them was how Gabby stood up to Rick when she had to and how Rick treated Gabby. Sure he was protective of her but never treated her like a child. These two were well suited for each other but they did have some things to work out.
The paranormal/mystery/suspense element was BRILLIANT! I would have never thought of it and how it all played out was very well thought out. It is a thread that binds the book and characters together but again, Ms. Gadbois finds a balance that I haven’t seen done in a very long time. And keep the romance going, too.
I especially liked the secondary characters Bill and Suzanne. My heart went out to Jack and Carla but in the end…Again, Jack. 😉
Overall, this is a brilliant debut. The premise reads like it’s been done before, but wait for it…Ms. Gadbois puts a wicked spin on it and I’ve -read it already.
