BURN FOR ME
by: Lauren Blakely
Book Synopsis: She’s the one fire he can’t put out…
Jamie Lansing has had it bad for firefighter Smith Grayson for as long as they’ve been friends. Yes, he’s ridiculously charming and she might stare a little too long at his abs, but his dirty-talking, rough-around-the-edges ways aren’t for her. Plus, she knows that as a serial dater, Smith isn’t the type to settle down. But then a terrible, fantastic, mind-blowing mistake leaves her body craving more than one night.
Smith Grayson has only ever had eyes for one woman in town—his best friend Jamie. But convincing her a relationship between them will work is next to impossible with her refusing to see beyond his past. But when she asks for a week of no-strings-attached sex to get him out of her system, Smith knows this is his one chance to prove he’s not just the man she needs in her bed, but the man she needs in her life.

Friends to lovers trope! Love it! And Ms. Blakely has written a good one. I know, I don’t usually review borderline erotic stuff during the week but with this book, I made the exception. I’m sure glad that I did. Besides the trope (that I love), there was something about the blurb that really caught my attention. I honestly think it was Smith Grayson name. Yes, the hero’s name. It may seem shallow but the name completely fits him in the book.
I won’t rehash the synopsis but what I will say is that even though Smith and Jamie are best buddies, they still have some baggage that needs to be dealt with from the start. There is no external conflict for these two…just two minds that think they don’t belong together but their hearts tell them otherwise. Jamie has trust issues with men because of her sister’s divorce. Smith, unfortunately, has been labeled a playboy, serial dater when in reality, he loves Jamie and wants to settle down with her.
Getting through to Jamie is hard. Even in the end of the week when they both figure out what they truly want from each other…Jamie breaks it off. The dialogue during that scene is gut wrenching to me. For once, Smith truly tells her exactly how he feels about their “arrangement” and he doesn’t hold back. That scene alone sealed the book for me. He needed to tell Jamie that and even then she walked. Grrr…
What really worked for me was the friendship that these two had from the beginning of the book. I “felt” their friendship and how each one of them was holding back. Sure the smexy times were amazing (and they were) but overall, you could feel them slowly coming around to love. What did it for me with Jamie was the discussion with her older sister.
Oh and did I mention that there is puppy involved in the end? OMG! Perfection and it sealed the deal, too. Read it and then come tell me that you didn’t have a smile on your face.
Overall, I really liked Jamie and Smith. Their relationship worked for me and this being my first book by Ms. Blakely, I need to scour her back list now. *shame on me*
