Synopsis: He’s Paxton Wilder.Twenty-two-year-old, tattooed, smoking-hot leader of the Renegades.

Five time X Games medalist.

The world is his playground—especially this year—and for the next nine months I’m stuck as his tutor on the Study at Sea program.

He’s too busy staging worldwide stunts for his documentary to get to class.

But if I can’t get him to take academics seriously, I’ll lose my scholarship…if I don’t lose my heart first.

Six unlikely friends on a nine-month cruise with the Study at Sea program will learn that chemistry is more than a subject and the best lessons aren’t taught in the classroom…but in the heart.

EXCERPT #1

“If you need to study, you’re right, you’ll be doing it here, because I’m not going anywhere near those cameras unless I have to.”

My muscles relaxed as I realized she wasn’t going to renege on our deal and not tutor me. “I understand.”

“Okay then. Do you have your schedule so I know what classes you have?”

“I have every class you do.”

Her mouth dropped open. “How is that even possible?”

“I needed to know you could help me, or take notes if I had to miss class.” Because I engineered it that way.

“Did you sleep with the registrar or something? How did you make that happen? You know what? I don’t even want to know. We have seminar at nine a.m. tomorrow. Do you think you can make it? Or were you planning on waterskiing behind the ship or something?”

“That’s not even…” Huh. I wondered if it was possible.

Maybe if the rope was long enough, and we launched from—

“Unbelievable. No wonder you need a tutor. You’ve killed off all your brain cells doing stupid crap. Tell me something—are you just here for the Renegade Channel?”

My eyes widened. “I thought you didn’t know who I was?”

She rolled hers. “Come on. We’re still close enough to port to have good internet, and there’s not a lot of Paxton Wilders running around. Google is pretty nifty with the whole search thing.”

I swallowed. How much did she know? “What did it tell you?”

“That you run a YouTube channel with a few friends who all have ridiculous stage names, you’ve won a couple X Game medals in motocross or snowmobiling or something.”

“Both,” I answered automatically.

“Great. You enjoy flinging yourself off mountains and buildings and generally see exactly what it would take to kill yourself, and I’m responsible for getting you through this academic year while you’re doing it all over the world, right?”

Fuck. She put it together so quickly. “What makes you think that?”

“Well, I doubt those hugely expensive cameras are here to document some boring reality show featuring your academics center stage, so the only plausible explanation is that you’re here to take your little channel international. Or is it bigger?”

“Bigger,” I answered truthfully. “Some of the things we have planned aren’t exactly legal in the U.S., so it seemed to be a great time to shoot the documentary. What else did you learn?”

“That you prefer leggy blondes who have a disproportionate ratio of breast to waist. Which is fine with me; I’m sure there’s a full treasure trove here to select from, and I’m safe since I don’t fit any of that criteria.”

“Whoa, when did I even hint—?”

She threw her palms out. “You didn’t. I just figured I’d get ahead of you. Look, you almost killed me, dumped me into a huge pool, and now I’m stuck with you if I want to stay on this trip. I understand what I signed up for. But I will not be involved in anything you do—like I was today—ever again. You and I are business only, got it?”

I nodded slowly. “Got it.” What the fuck just happened?

“Good. Now you can leave. I’ll see you at seminar in the morning.” She walked to the door and held it open until I left her room, closing the door behind me with a loud click.

I was halfway to my room before I started laughing. Little Eleanor Baxter had done the one thing no other girl had done in my lifetime—dismissed me outright.

I knew I liked her for a reason.

review

Pink here.  I know that most of don’t have a clue who I am.  I’m Harlie’s baby sister.  Every once in awhile, she lets me review on HER blog.  I begged, pleaded and basically hit her over the head to read this book.  She hates NA with a passion.  She tells me that her college days and 20’s were great times for her.  I don’t remember much since I was so much younger but I do, however, remember that she was happy.  Mom and Dad didn’t bug her too much either.  I agreed to interview her when she decided to write her review.  So here goes:

  1.  Why do you hate the New Adult genre?  Well, I was pretty well adjusted and our parents were great.  I had boyfriends but nothing serious.  I didn’t do drugs or sleep around much.  I wasn’t abused in my childhood either and it seems to me that most NA books are centered around that the girl ALWAYS needs a man to complete her because of the booze, sex, drugs and/or abuse.  Me, I did my fair share of drinking with my friends but I also went to school and work.  Some would say I was a goody goody but in reality, I did have a wild streak.  I just hid it better than most.  🙂 (Pink-I remember you sneaking in and smelling the cigs and booze.  And yes, you never got caught.  Now our brother did but that’s not important right now.  LOL!)
  2. What made this book so special for you?  And don’t say, Paxton Wilder!!!  You’re no fun!  Well, this book just had everything that I WANT in a New Adult book.  Real issues with the hero and heroine.  Paxton really is a softy but with his popularity with his stunts, the medals at the X-Games and let’s not forget about the money, he played a part.  A part that he didn’t want any part of when he met Leah.  He didn’t want to WANT her but he did.  I loved watching him fall.  It was a lot of fun. (Pink-I would have to agree but Pax was still hotter than hell.  Plus, I also liked how Ms. Yarros was able to separate Pax from Wilder but make them one and the same.  Not many authors can do that.  You always complain about that. )
  3. What about Leah?  She’s what I want in a heroine in the genre.  She’s wounded but not damaged.  She thinks that she is but I liked how Pax was able to slowly and gently peel away her layers to reveal the REAL Leah.  Also, Leah’s inner thoughts were so realistic that I chuckled, signed and cried when I read them.  That’s great writing. (Pink-Leah and I could totally be friends.  Her inner snark and mouthiness is spot on.  Ms. Yarros had to have interview college students.  Plus, I liked that the story is NOT about using your phone for everything.  People actually had to TALK to each other.  No social media, internet.  Just real conversations and actions. )
  4. So the BIG moment?  What did you think?  Remember NO spoilers…This is going to be hard for me.  There were actually two BIG moments in the end but I will say that the “reason” why Leah was there was kinda of a downer for me.  Hearing his explanation felt okay to me and Leah’s reaction is perfect but I think I expected a bit more from it.  Having Leah’s BF show up was PRICELESS!   And I will say, I CAN.NOT.WAIT for her book with one of the other Renegades.  I have a feeling that book is a going to be a wild ride.  😉  The other BIG moment was so out of left field but in the end, it made perfect sense.  And that’s all I’m going to say about that.  He He!!! (Pink-OMG!!!!  I never saw that coming either but I was like you…it was kinda of a letdown.  I understood it but I think the other moment was better. )
  5.  The book had a suspense element in it.  I know that’s like your crack when it comes to a book so what did you think?  Honestly, I LOVED it.  It brought needed tension to the Wilder side of Pax.  The outcome was NOT expected and I felt bad for all the Renegades in the end.  Especially Nick.  He didn’t deserve that at all.  I’m just wondering if that character can be redeemed at all.  (Pink – Oooo, I wanted to bitchslap someone over that.  I was shocked and I can’t imagine how all that is going to play out now.  It’s not over.)
  6.  So the Renegades are Wilder (Pax), Nova (Landon), Nitro (Nick) and Rebel (Penne/Penelope).  What did you think of their characters?  I loved them.  Very well thought out and added so much to the story of Pax and Leah.  I liked how they also liked Leah for who and what she is.  They treated her like she was one of them.  In fact, there was a scene with Landon and Leah that just ripped me.  I saw disaster but Ms. Yarros proved to me that Landon is a person that I want to get to know better.  I actually feel sorry for him because his story is next and I don’t think that the heroine is going to be even remotely nice to him.  I expect that there will be LOTS of begging, pleading and getting his butt kicked by her before it is all said and done.  (Pink – I know, right?  Love’s a bitch and Landon’s going to have his hands full.  I can’t wait either. )
  7. Overall reaction?  Don’t hold back.  *snort* Honestly, it’s just awesome, brilliant, and fun.  There is suspense, action, smexy times, a guy that didn’t know what love was but found it nonetheless.  A heroine that had scars but still had some living to do.  Just keep living…that kept going through my mind during the book.  The both needed to keep living but for different reasons.  Yes, they needed each other for that but they had to figure out how to live without the masks that they put on.  That’s why the Greek Island scenes were so important.  It showed great character growth for both of them and they never looked back.  (Pink-See I told you that you needed to read this book.  I got you hooked.  I know that it’s only one book but you will definitely get the other books in the series when they come out.  I loved it because it felt real to me.  I know, they are on a ship and the Renegades seem too good to be true but underneath all that crap, they were just boys and girls that wanted to grow and fall in love.  What’s wrong with that?  Nothing.  I just wish that the other NA authors got the memo that not ever book has to be so damn depressing.  This book is fun, witty, sexy and unputdownable.  I’ve read it twice.  Hence, why the interview was late.  Sorry peeps, I had a full day of classes today.

Pink – I hope that you liked the interview.  It was first for both us.  I love my sister but sometimes, I do know what’s best.  He he!!!
