Loving Mick (Book #1 of The New Year’s Eve Club) by Jill Limber – Excerpt/Review

BLURB:

FIVE WOMEN. ONE NIGHT. ONE YEAR TO GET IT RIGHT.

Loving Mick

by Jill Limber

Betrayed and abandoned by a cheating husband, Jessie wants nothing more than a fling—until handsome detective Mick Landers finds both her missing son and the way to win “forever.”

“Jessie had never been bold when it came to men, but last night, after Mick had kissed her, she’d made a firm decision. Mick was her chosen target. Just the thought of pursuing an affair with him made her feel like a new woman. A new sexy, free woman.

Her BFF Heather had been so right. Jessie needed a fling to jump start her single life. Divorce sex had been Heather’s term. And after Mick, who knew? Maybe she’d find another guy and do it again. Maybe she’d become a serial–what? Flinger? Was that even a word?

She grinned. It was now.”

Review:

OMG, when this series was presented to me to review, I jumped at the chance.  I’m a sucker for connected stories and this looked like a good one.  I’m so glad that I was able to get in.  The start of the series was a perfect start.  I can’t wait to dive into the rest of the series.

When we first meet Jessie she is at a New Year’s Eve party with her best friends and toasting the new year.  Little do they know that her once perfect world has crumbled and she has moved back to San Diego permanently.

Having a fling sounds good right?  Once, twice and your done.  You move on.  Only problem with that is Jessie and Mick can’t get enough of each other.  The scene in the backseat of the car is priceless.  Trust me on this.  I was laughing and then swooning.  Too bad that Mick didn’t get the memo about how big of a rat bastard of an ex-husband that Jessie had.  It would have saved him some heartache.

I just can’t get over how much I loved this book.  Yes, it has children, parents, friends, insecurities about yourself, love in general, afraid of the unknown and just how general life gets in the way issues.  But that’s what I love about it.  The characters were believable, relatable and lovable all at the same time.

Ms. Limber does a great job with the dialogue and thoughts of Jessie and Mick.  Even though it is written from Jessie’s POV, I completely understand Mick’s side of the story.  Men can be stupid sometimes when it comes to love but Mick came through in the end and that’s what matters.

If you are looking for a contemporary novel that is funny, relatable, sexy and just plain fun, pick up Loving Mick.  You will not be disappointed.

Oh, I’ve been to San Diego and trust me those planes really do fly in like they are going to hit the buildings in the downtown area.  Scariest airport I’ve been in…EVER!  Oh, and I didn’t like taking off towards the ocean either.
