Welcome Paige E. Roberts! Please start off by telling us a little about yourself.
I’m a writer, a computer geek, and a bit of a ham on stage. I love to dance and to play different parts, getting deep into a role until it becomes an aspect of myself, and for a while, I become the role. I do a lot of acting around Halloween, which means I play a lot of vampires, demons, and evil dominatrixes. I suspect I’ve been typecast.
What were your inspirations for the story?
My inspiration for creating a sexy dominant computer genius as my heroine is pretty obvious. She’s not me, but she’s pretty close in a lot of ways. The inspiration for the relationship was a wonderful man that I loved dearly, who served me for many years. He’s quick-witted, funny and shy, sexy and sweet. I miss him.
Please share your setting for “I Want That One.” Have you ever lived or visited there? If so, what did you like most?
The story is set in a futuristic New York City. I visited New York many years ago, went to the top of the two towers while they still stood. My favorite aspect of New York was the broadway shows. I got to see the original Cats and Oh, Calcutta and Arsenic and Old Lace with Loretta Switt.
When did the writing bug first bite?
I started writing stories about the same time I learned how to write. I was very big into make believe worlds as a child. I’ve still got a copy somewhere of my first novel that I wrote in pencil in notebooks when I was eleven.
Who are your favorite authors, book/series?
That’s a tough one. I only keep the books that I truly love, and I have more books in my house than clothes. I might own more books than furniture. As far as sexy books, I got hooked on Cecelia Tan’s books fairly early. I like the Marketplace series by Laura Antoniou. A lot of the books by Black Lace Press appeal to me, although I had to get past giggling every time I read the word “knickers” in order to enjoy them. Accent Press does some great sexy books, too. I’m in a few of their anthologies.
If you could have an author roundtable discussion with any authors, who would you invite?
Hmm, if it was in person, I’d be tempted to just invite Jim Butcher, but I’m not sure how long I’d continue talking. 😉 But if I actually had to talk writing, I’d invite Cecelia Tan and a few of my writer friends. It would probably turn into a party.
Do you have any hobbies or special things you like to do in your spare time?
I belly dance, do martial arts, and draw comic art, badly.
What’s the strangest thing you’ve heard or seen?
Wow, that’s a tuffy. I once watched a naked person, strapped to a giant cross, being whipped by a flogger that was on fire while people danced and spun fire all around him. I was in the back of the audience chatting with an old friend, a bit bored. His comment, “Yawn. Seen it.”
Strange is a very relative thing.
