New York Times bestselling author Chantal Fernando returns with a brand new series about a brigade of lawyers who, despite being bad boys at heart, always end up just on the right side of the law.

Katerina Dawson knows exactly what she wants from life. And as the new associate at the top law firm in the city, she’s ready to live out her dreams of becoming a criminal lawyer. But going on coffee runs and babysitting kids during the day was definitely not what she had in mind. She knows that anyone else would kill to be in her shoes, but she has to draw the line somewhere. That’s easier said than done, though, when Kat has to confront her handsome boss…

Tristan Channing and Jaxon Bentley run a successful law firm together and the two partners couldn’t be busier right now. When Jaxon suddenly takes a leave of absence, Tristan begrudgingly assumes responsibility of the new associate, the hot new associate, who has curves for days. Needing to keep his distance from her, Tristan sends Kat on needless errands and has her doing work even an intern wouldn’t touch, like picking up his kids. But his plan backfires when he sees his children grow attached to Kat and sees her getting comfortable in his home. It triggers something deep within him, and it feels right to have her there. Will Tristan be able to keep his work and personal lives separate, or will he find that his heart holds the final verdict?

Okay, so I don’t read a lot of lawyer books.  Well, I read Emma Chase’s books but I digress.  A couple of things before we really get into the review.  One, the book isn’t long.  It’s novella in length so some of the plot moves pretty fast.  There is NO instalove at all.  That’s the one thing that was slow building and I appreciated that.  Second, the book is written in the first person.  It’s mainly in Kat’s viewpoint.  Normally, I don’t mind this but I really wanted to get to know Tristan.  Third, this book sets up the other 3 lawyers that we will read about in the coming months.
Again, lawyer books just aren’t on my radar but I really enjoyed reading this one and I can’t wait for Hunter, Callum’s and Jaxson’s books when they release.  Jaxson’s is next and my review will be up on the blog.  Tristan and Jaxson are partners in a law firm and Kat is hired to be Jaxson’s new associate.  I loved their interaction in the beginning and was sad when he left.  When she is regulated to work with Tristan, she didn’t sign up to be a nanny or even a coffee runner.  She has her law degree and doesn’t seem to think that Tristan thought much of her in that way.  That’s where the book really takes off.
I loved how they slowly began to trust each other and how they danced around each other.  It really wasn’t until the scene with his son that I really felt the connection between them.  Trust me, Tristan son plays a HUGE part in their relationship.  I loved how Kat was there for not only his children but for Tristan himself.  Tristan is more of a loner and I can see why.  No spoilers but it’s sorta sad in a way.  Tristan is a good guy and the major conflict is that there is NO major conflict.  Kat and Tristan are adults, who act like adults.  There is no big misunderstanding, no communication between them.
Overall, Ms. Fernando sets up a great series with Kat and Tristan.  I can’t wait to read the others in the series.  Plus, look at the covers.  OH MY!!!  And on a side note, this is my first book from the author.  I’m hooked.
