Guest Post & Review of Wyk’s Surrender by Dakota Trace w/giveaway

DT_Wyk's Surrender_200

Hi all, my name is Dakota Trace and I like to write erotic romance – the steamier the better.   But before I get into any of that, I’d like to take a moment to thank Harlie for having me today.  I even left my rascally muse at home.  *see I can be nice* LOL.   Anyway, I’m swinging by today to talk about a wonderful celebration that is going on this week. It’s hard to believe it but one of my publisher’s lines is turning 200 this month. Yep, that rascally Madame Eve has appeared (sorta) in over 200 books over the past couple of years, weaving her magic over some very lucky couples and even a few ménages.

I’m happy to say that I’ve had the pleasure of having two books appear in the 1NS series.  My first book came out nearly eighteen months ago.  Blind Need was a sweet but spicy tale of two strangers, both who’d been hurt finding a second chance at love, even after they’d been rejected in the past.  Got to love this kind of book. It can be sweet and still burn up the page.  Xaviera and Nate were a blast to write, even if I had a bit of challenge describing things from her POV (she’s blind) and he had the biggest chip on his shoulder. (Which Xaviera knocked off quite nicely.)  Despite struggling to write such a short and concise book, it ended up being very well received  to the point that several readers have inquired what happened to my sexy smoke-jumper and his blind heiress after the 1 Night Stand.

Of course I finally gave into temptation and wrote a second book.  I wanted to make sure that I could work Xavier and Nate into the story line, but I was on a different kick genre wise this time.  Instead of sweet and spicy, I wanted dark and sinful.   (See I also like to write BDSM books – particularly FemDom *gasp*)  But how to connect the two? It seems like a nearly impossible task. A sweet erotic romance and a dark, intense BDSM story…one might think they could never meet, but that’s when it hit me.  Every family has a black sheep so to speak.  Why not have the heroine of Wyk’s Surrender be that person?  And that’s what Venus is.  She’s just as opinionated as Xaviera was but she has a dark side that Xaviera lacks.   Especially when it comes to her boss, Wyk.

At first, I was leery about writing such a book for the line, but when I submitted the story and my kick ass editor Kate said she loved it, I gave a sigh of relief.  In the erotic romance world, there are tons of BDSM books, but very few are FemDom and the fact that Decadent accepted it, just floored me. I chalk this shortage up to there being more Doms available for us curious authors to pester than Mistresses.  Don’t get me wrong, I found a few on FetLife, I even enrolled in a class that was geared just for Dommes.

I’m not sure why but for some reason, many people think Dominatrix’s when you say FemDom.  Just like in vanilla lifestyle – there are more flavors out there than Basket Robins has of ice cream when it comes to BDSM. I didn’t want a my Domme to be the type that was in her lover’s face scream obscenities at him, while telling him what a worthless worm he was.  (Huge turn off for me) But what I did want was my Domme to be stern but mischievous.  She had to have a sense of humor but possess a  commanding presence at the same time.  I wanted her to be a woman that Wyk couldn’t ignore. But most of all she had to be human under it all.  It was quite the challenge to show all those facets in Venus without making Wyk look like a wuss or sissy.

I’d like to think I balanced it out.  But for those of you who are brave enough to read it, why don’t you shoot me a line and tell me what you think .  Speaking of that…before I forget, I have a hot copy of Wyk’s Surrender in my little hands right now.  I’ll be giving it away to one lucky commenter.  All you have to do is vote.  You do like Sweet but sizzling or Dark and Intense when it comes to your 1NS?  (Don’t forget to leave your email, so I can contact you if you win.)

Opps one last thing.  Ms. Harlie was nice enough to include the 1NS 200th Celebration Rafflecopter form below.  Be sure to enter.  It’s harmless and there are chances to win some pretty cool prizes. I know I’d love to win a gift certificate to the movies.  Have you checked the prices lately?  LOL.

Thanks again for having me, Harlie!

Review:

I read this story a couple of weeks ago and its still with me.  Yes, still with me.  I will admit that I have basically stopped reading any form of BDSM because of a certain series of books that mainstream has considered great reads…but I digress…sorry.  Anyway, I’ve always been attracted to FemDom stories since Ms. Tiffany wrote a couple of books about some girl named Nora.  😉  Yes, I’ve read the series and worshiped them.  *wipes tear*

So why the attraction?  Read this book and it will explain it to you.  Venus is a strong woman and isn’t afraid of her own sexuality.  She is a FemDom and is in love with her boss, Wyk.  She would love to bring him to his knees and satisfy her own cravings.  But what about the boss/employee relationship.  As his assistant, she does control a bit of the office.  The thing I most liked about Venus is that while a FemDom, she is not an abuser, hard core bitch but a woman that likes to top men.  And the man she wants to top is Wyk.

Wyk is such a great hero.  He knows he wants Venus and also the idea of her being a FemDom doesn’t scare him.  He craves to be on his knees with her in the bedroom.  He embraces his submissive side in the bedroom but fears that being with her will ruin their working relationship.  Again, a perfect set up for Venus and Wyk.  Two people that aren’t afraid of who they are, just being together.  Will it shift their relationship at work?  You will have to read the book to find out.  🙂

All that aside, the smexy times in the bedroom are hot but not over the top.  They are sensual, hawt and loving.  Yes, loving.  These two love each other that almost borders on obsessive.  Venus is the perfect FemDom:  loving, controlling but also soft.  Yes, soft.

Do yourself a favor and pick this one up and read it.  You will not be sorry and you might have just found the FemDom isn’t all whips, chains, pain but pure pleasure.

  1. For some reason the giveaway link wasn’t working for me but this sounds like a great story. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I like both sweet but sizzling and dark and intense. It depends on what I’m in the mood to read. I haven’t read a FemDom story so I’m adding this on to me To Read list!

So what do you think?
