Yours Truly, 2095
by Brian Paone
GENRE: Time Travel Romance
Jeff Blue – the victim of a time-travel conspiracy – wakes up trapped in the year 2095. The only familiar face is J0, a robotic copy of the wife he left behind in 1981. But can she be trusted? J0 could be the only key to unlock Jeff’s journey home, but it will require her to do something against her programming , something human.
During Jeff’s perilous journey through the future, he will have to discover the truth about J0’s origins, and solve the mystery behind how he wound up in 2095, in order to uncover the reality of his own destiny.
Armed with a one-way ticket to the moon, Jeff must race against the clock to seize what might be his last chance to return home to his time. A time without hover cars, Justice Computers, or TeleSkins – a time over 100 years ago.
J0 looked flushed.
“Is everything all right?” I asked.
I sat down next to her, and she grabbed her cup of coffee from the end table.
“I’ve never been able to do that before. What’s happening to me?”
“Never been able to do what?”
“Retrieve something as naturally as you do. I knew that my data bank had the information, but their name was just out of reach. It was, as the expression goes, on the tip of my tongue. Usually I can feel the circuits and conductors inside my head compute and flip through information like a Rolodex. This time, however, I had to actually think about it to remember it.”
“Are you saying that you were able to bring up the Kaminski name like a human would have and not like a computer?”
“I’ve never felt anything like that before. I wasn’t designed to be able to make organic decisions myself.”
“What do you think this means?”
I was frightened of the transformations that she had been manifesting. If all these changes really had been programmed into J0 before I bounced into the future, then they could be calculated commands to either systematically destroy her or to meticulously advance her. It was hard to say which one it was at this point. Maybe this was some version of her own entropy of sorts.
“Despite the excitement I’m feeling, I wonder if my algorithm is deteriorating somehow,” she answered. “First, it was the emotions that came from somewhere deep inside me, not from my central processing unit—”
“Ha! We humans call that a heart,” I said. “You’re kind of like the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz, only you’re getting yours a piece at a time.”
“It really is weird. I was daydreaming while you were gone that maybe I was becoming more human. Maybe, through some freakish design evolution, I got a—”

Probably Superman at Six Flags New England, and the Takabishi in Japan. That one has a 121 degree drop, steepest in the world. I bought a tee shirt after I got off. Ha!
