Climax, Virginia Mystery Series, Book One

Margaret Palmer returns to Climax, Virginia, a deceptively quiet country town where Southern charm hides long-buried secrets and evil lurks just beneath the surface of the daily routine. Frustrated and frightened, Margaret knows she will have to face Blue Moon, the only true love she ever had, and his adopted daughter, Carolina. More alarmingly, she may be forced to reveal a long-hidden secret—she’s Carolina’s biological mother. But, will her disclosure no longer matter when a psychotic serial killer eliminating residents, spirals out of control, determined that Blue will be his last victim?

CHARACTER INTERVIEW WITH MARGARET

How did you first meet your writer?

Many years ago. Bobbye planned to write this book in first person with Carolina being the first person. She couldn’t get it written. No wonder. I love my niece/daughter, but Carolina does have trouble sticking to the subject. She has too much going on at one time. Once Bobbye realized I was the heroine and Carolina was an important secondary one, we were back writing over again. I also told her there was no way this would work in first person. She had to get into the sick mind of the killer. After that, the book was written in six weeks!

What are your favorite scenes in your book: the action, the dialog or the romance?

Well mine are the romance, of course. Most of those are with Blue and me. But the reader will probably like all the action. I have a lot that happens to me. So does Carolina, and her poor beau, Andy, well, he takes quite a beating.

Do you infiltrate your writer’s dreams?

Don’t have to. Some characters from her other books tell me they do, but Bobbye and I have been very compatible writing during the day. She just knows what I want her to write. Besides, I prefer to spend sleeping moments with someone else.

What do you like to do when you are not being actively read somewhere?

What do you think? Okay, so it’s not all about sex, which really is too bad. I like to learn about baking from Cindy and the rest of the women in Climax keep me busy with projects. There’s no question that we are the ones who run that town.

Do you like the way the book ended?

Of course. The bad guy got his due, I ended up just where I wanted to be and.Carolina’s happy.

Would you be interested in a sequel, if your writer was so inclined?

There is one, Nick of Time.

What is your least favorite characteristic your writer has attributed to you?

She didn’t attribute anything to me. I had all those from birth. And don’t go pointing out I’m stubborn and opinionated. I will admit to being outspoken.

What do you do for a living?

Job? Do I have to have a job?

What is your greatest fear?

That I’ll be left alone. That’s always haunted me.

What do you wear when you go to sleep?

Like clothes? Really? No, no clothes.

What is your most prized possession?

My family. I never had one and nobody will take that away from me, even if I have to fight to the death.

Who was your first girlfriend/boyfriend and what do you like most about them?

Blue Moon. I love his humor and his eyes. I love to hear him talk and the way he holds me in his arms. I feel safe there.

What do you think your greatest weakness is?

I don’t have a weakness. Okay, maybe I have a little too much pride.

What do you think is your strongest attribute?

I can survive anything.

What embarrasses you?

What is something no one knows about you?  Why do you keep it a secret?  And what would happen if everyone found out about it?

That’s what this book is about. I can’t give it away. You’ll find out in Coming to Climax.

What do you like most about where you live?

It’s beautiful and peaceful. But the best thing is I’m surrounded by love.

What’s your favorite thing to do on a rainy Sunday?

Um, I think I have to keep that one to myself.

What word makes you the happiest?

Love

What turns you on?

Ask Blue. He knows all my secret spots.

What turns you off?

Blue knows that too.

What sound or noise do you love?

Blue’s voice.

Do you believe in ghosts/evil spirits/mysticism? Would you spend the night in a remote haunted house?

Why not? It’s the living you have to watch out for. In a remote house of any kind, I’d be armed and have someone with me.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

A morning person now. I have to keep up with Blue.

What is your most favorite memory?

Lying in front of the fireplace with Blue in the buff. And no, we weren’t there to dry off.

If you knew a zombie apocalypse was coming in one week, what would you do?

Enjoy my time. Don’t have any other options, do I?

How do you react when people sing “Happy Birthday” to you in a restaurant?

Not going to happen I’m a private person.

What’s your favorite animal?

Promise, my Lab. She was a present from Blue.

Have you ever thought about getting a tattoo, what would it be and where? If not, what if you had to?

Not on your life. I’d take Blue’s rifle after the person.

What do you admire about your parents?

Not much. I was raised by my aunt.

What’s the worst/weirdest thing you did as a kid?

I was never a kid, not really. I grew up learning about money. I regret my childhood because I never got to play. Now Cindy teaches me a lot about it and Blue does that with me all the time.
