Biting Love, Book 5Gunter Marie “Junior” Stieg is stuck selling sausage for her folks in small-town Meiers Corners. Until one day she’s offered a way out—the chance to play pit orchestra for a musical headed for Broadway: Oz, Wonderful Oz.

But someone is threatening the show’s young star. To save the production, Junior must join forces with the star’s dark, secretive bodyguard, whose sapphire eyes and lyrical Welsh accent thrill her. And whose hard, muscular body sets fire to her passions.

Fierce as a warrior, enigmatic as a druid, Glynn Rhys-Jenkins has searched eight hundred years for a home. Junior’s get-out-of-Dodge attitude burns him, but everything else about her inflames him, from her petite body and sharp mind to what she can do with her hip-length braid.

Then a sensuous, insidious evil threatens not only the show, but the very foundations of Meiers Corners. To fight it, Junior and Glynn must face the truth about themselves—and the true meaning of love and home.

Thanks so much, Harlie, for having me here today!
Why a druid?
Myths and mysticism fascinate me. As a child I saw magical possibilities in everything around me. Finding the magic in nature, in life, is as wonderful and natural to me as breathing. Between that and my Celtic ancestry, it was perhaps inevitable that I found myself interested in druids.
A decade or more ago I came across a book, Life and Death of a Druid Prince. It’s an enthralling tale about the discovery of a bog body that bears all the markings of a druid prince who sacrificed himself to save his world. I decided to do a contemporary romance about a druid book and the mysterious professor who’s tied to it. I didn’t finish the story (it’s currently at 27K and I may finish it some day) but I researched druids then, and their courage and daring in the face of the seemingly inexorable Roman conquest remained strong in my mind.
I’ve also been looking to create a hero from Walesfor some time now. The characters I write are all seeded in my reality—that is, every character has a bit of my “real” life inside them that’s the grit to the character’s pearl. In Glynn’s case, it’s my husband, whose rebellious streak I never understood—until I discovered one of said husband’s ancestors was a rebel in the Welsh equivalent of the Boston Tea Party. It’s not willfulness, it’s a strong will to see that right is done (and my husband comes by it naturally 🙂 Glynn has this strong sense of what’s right, and the will to fight for it when it’s threatened.
Born in the 1200s, Glynn isn’t a druid. But he is a vampire who encapsulates the spirit of the druid prince: the enigmatic warrior-priest, a thoughtful man who is capable of swift action, and who does what he has to in order to save his world.

  1. I think all kinds of wonderful stories can be told that revolve around druids, or at least around all the myths out there. I do hope you get around to finishing that story you already started 🙂

    1. Hey Michelle! I like the premise of the story, a college professor and a young woman who is a professional model who has a near death experience and the druid book that joins them together…thanks for your encouragement!

    1. Thanks! The awesome Kaxana is the cover artist. I love it too. It's striking, with just the hint of a guitar flowing into the composition, and colors that complement the rest of the series' covers.

    1. Thanks for your kind comment! Bite My Fire is first with cop Elena and master vampire/apartment manager/suspect Bo. Time does pass and plot lines do develop across books and recurring characters change, but I wrote the books so that they can be read in any order, or as stand-alones. Feel free to dive in anywhere!

  2. Congrats on the new release. This book sounds fantastic. Can't wait to read it. Will this be the last in the series?

    1. Hey Joanne! Thanks for your congratulations and kind words. I'm glad you asked about the series–this isn't the last book. That won't be for a while, I'm afraid.

Next up is Beauty Bites, featuring Twyla's almost-a-doctor cousin who looks like a Scandanavian model but only wants to be taken seriously. I've paired her steak to the sizzle of ad man Ric Holiday, who's on the run from Nosferatu. Their story takes place in and near Minneapolis and features a stunning and horrifying revelation about vampire aging. After that comes Rocky's story (which I started in 2009, if you can believe it!). And then I have a few characters who will need stories of their own and a couple villains who need to be dealt with, so I'm anticipating a few more books after that 🙂

  3. Very interesting post! I love stories about druids and have been reading a series about them – they were a very interesting people and what happened to them with the Romans was tragic. Thanks for the giveaway

    1. Hey Maria! Truly, there's a lot about the druids and Celts and their history that we don't get in school, especially from the pre-Roman times when their tribes covered western Europe. Really quite a heroic people in many ways. Besides the Druid Prince and his triple sacrifice, there's a great book about how the Irish helped preserve western civilization during the dark ages.

  4. This sounds like a great read! I'm always looking for something new to read 🙂

  5. A new author for me. But I do love a little magic and romance. I like how you take bits of people you know and make new characters. Glynn sounds great, a lot packed into one man!

    Thanks for the generous giveaway!

    1. Hi Lexi! Thank you for your kind words. My previous hero was golden, graceful, a bit of a bad boy and larger than life. Glynn is very different, more my idea of a mature, responsible man, so I wasn't sure how readers would react. I'm so glad you think he sounds great!

    1. Hey Lona! Cover artist Kaxana really caught the drama! “Real vampires do musicals” hopefully gives the sense of fun. The warning then lets readers know it's adult 🙂 Thanks for your nice comment!
