You are going to be disappointed with my review. I usually fan girl all over Ms. Brimble but today I’m not. Why? Because I don’t need to anymore. She is one of my all time favorite authors. She always delivers the goods and I can say that since I’ve been reading her books from the very beginning. So my question for you is, are you reading her? If not, why? She writes emotional, tender, at times snarky with characters that you can easily relate to. Yes, relate, too.
Leah is a nurse and Ethan is a writer. Daisy is his daughter and she is in school. Nothing hard to understand about the characters so far. Ethan was married before and the mother/wife left without a backward glance to her own daughter. It happens. Leah is a nurse and has friends there in town. She is estranged from her family because of something that was done a while back, but then again, sometimes you need to back away from your family every once in a while. I do and it’s not because I don’t love them but sometimes they can be stifling. I need my space. Ethan needs his space, too but didn’t count on Leah to keep pushing and pushing. Daisy is a character on her own. She’s not a plot device or overly cute. She has wants and needs just like everyone else.
What separates this book from the rest of the books in the series? A couple of things actually.
- The suspense is racked up in this one. It’s subtle but you can feel it. Breathe it. It’s palpable.
- There are a couple of subject matters that are not for the faint of heart. Domestic abuse, abandonment and somewhat of a mafia thread. Anna, Ethan’s ex, is in way over her head.
- I didn’t have to watch for the connection between Ethan and Leah. It is there from the start. 🙂
- CAT is back! CAT is back! See the book Finding Justice…just saying! She’s still a badass to me. And one of my all time favorite heroines.
- Just when you think the book is finished, Ms. Brimble decides to throw you a loop and then BAM! I was floored and I don’t easily get floored too often.
This is the 7th book in the series and yes, I’ve read every single one and I’ve loved each one in its own way but I have to say that this one of the best in the series. It delivers for me everything that I like in a book. Plus, Cat! Anywoos…
I’m also very sad that this particular line is going away for Harlequin. I’ve been reading it for too many years and I have many authors that I read because of it. Ms. Brimble doesn’t have to worry about me NOT reading her but I’m sad that there is only one more book in Templeton Cove. January 2018 can’t come any sooner.
Do yourself a favor and pick up anything that Ms. Brimble writes. You won’t be disappointed.
