guestpost

Hi, my name is Tessa Marshal. We met not so long ago on the pages of Desire and Deception. I hear some people out there aren’t familiar with Mexican food. You don’t know what you’re missing! Here’s a few of the dishes I enjoyed while I was in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. Hopefully you can find a good Mexican restaurant in your area so you can have a taste.

Huachinango a la Veracruzana – Veracruz style red snapper

Yes, I’m still practicing how to say this in Spanish because it was so good. The red snapper is prepared with onion, tomato, capers, and green olives. I’m so glad Monica suggested that seafood restaurant by the hotel.

Chef was such a flirt…not that I should be saying that where Kris could read it.

Fajita tacos

I’ll be honest, these tacos are pork carnitas, but they’re the closest I could come to what I had. Every time I fix fajita tacos for a picture we end up eating them before I can think to pull out a phone or a camera. :/

Pan dulce – Sweet bread

Mexican style sweet bread isn’t really sweet. I found I liked the conchas Kris brought, especially when I had them with hot coffee. Though I’m still trying to decide which flavor I like best.

Coctel de camaron – Shrimp cocktail

Now this is a very different way of having shrimp cocktail. In Texas we dip shrimp in sauce. But after trying this tangy version, there’s no going back.

Chicharones

I saw Cruz out in the yard with one of these huge pork skins. I didn’t know they came in a jumbo size.

  1. I’d love to read this book on vacation – just not while I’m in the sun, because it sounds so good I’d forget where I am and get burned to a crisp!!!

    1. Do be careful because {{WARNING}} you will be sucked into the story.
I had a fan reach out to me earlier saying she started reading at night and didn’t want to put it down. She asking me for a timeline on book 2. LOL.
Desire & Deception is on sale through this weekend. If you buy before Sunday night, you’ll save a couple of bucks to use as tip for your cabana boy 😉

  2. Love, love, love Mexican food…..chicarones are fantastic! I’m also wild about fajitas in general and a good pork chimichanga….yum,….makes me hungry just thinking about it….Thanks for the spotlight on this book – I’m a fan of romantic suspense and this sounds good!

    1. A fellow foodie! After following up on the blog post, I fixed some carnitas de puerco for dinner . I hope you enjoy Desire & Deception. I’ve received some good reviews on it and requests for another story.

  3. I’m Mexican so of course I have a great appreciation for the food :).. It’s hard to imagine someone not knowing these types of food lol, but I guess it’s all about culture… great choices of food to share by the way!!

    1. I’ve had a few aha moments writing this book. The cultural differences became quite obvious when my beta readers from the eastern states and Australia needed a little more information on certain points. For example, Mexican Coke versus what we have in the U.S..
The meals are all among my personal favorites, especially the coctel de camaron.

So what do you think?
