SYNOPSIS:

When Skye Harris shows up on the Devil’s Playground’s doorstep asking the Brotherhood for help with a gang taking over her hometown, it’s time for Finn Storm to step up. The bikers might be tough but he’s tougher – and armed with Brotherhood tech and a warrior’s heart he’s going to get the job done, no matter what or who stands in his way.

The one weak spot in his plan is in his heart––Skye gets under his skin like no other woman has and she’s not going to let him take all the danger on his shoulders alone. But when she’s caught in the crossfire Finn has to decide whether to follow his heart or his carefully crafted plan to not only clean up the town but heal his soul.

Skye put her empty coffee cup in the sink. It was almost time to leave for work, and she hadn’t heard anything from the spare room since getting up that morning. It was hard to resist knocking on his door, using the excuse of checking in to see Finn before leaving.

Then he walked down the hallway and into the kitchen, and she lost her train of thought.

He wore only his jeans, otherwise barefoot and bare-chested. The whisper of day-old stubble on his chin added to his appeal, giving him a rugged look. Finn scratched his jaw, eyes still half shut, and it was easy to imagine him lying in bed, rolling over and giving her that same heavy-lidded smile after a night of serious lovemaking.

She bit down on her tongue, remembering her naughty thoughts of the previous evening.

Finn nodded. “Hoped I’d catch you before you left. Got some work today?”

“I’ve got another shift at the diner before doing some late-night cleaning at the real estate offices, so I’ll be popping in and out, plus visiting Robby.” She glanced at the calendar stuck on the refrigerator door. “Tomorrow’s Sunday. I’ll be picking up the usual shift from the Watleys, minding the store for them while they go to church. Eight until noon.”

“That’s a lot of work at a whole lot of different places.” Finn took down a coffee mug and poured himself a cup. “Can’t you find steady full-time work?”

“Not around here.” She fought to keep her tone light. “It’s been that way for years. Businesses come and go, and it’s easier for a lot of them to hire more part-time workers than full-time. So I gather up my shifts, and in the end, they add up to forty hours or more, depending on the week.”

“Rough way to live.” Finn reached over and squeezed her hand. “You’re one tough lady, Skye Harris.”

OMG!  This book.  Finn.  Skye.  Suspense.  Romance.  The unknown.  A brotherhood of ex-military heroes that fight the good fight.  Yes, this book has it all for me.  I will admit that I didn’t read Dylan and Jessie’s book but trust me, everything is explained in the beginning.  However, I’m intrigued by their story so I bought the other book.

The biggest impression that the book left me was how strong Skye was.  Typically in romantic suspense, the heroine needs to be saved some how but not our Skye.  I felt her anger and frustration when it came to the gang and especially its leader.  I loved how one of the gang member’s, Jake played in the story.  In the end, though, I didn’t feel sorry for him.  Robby, Skye’s brother, is a major character (in some ways) and I liked how he progressed in the story.  The ending with kinda broke my heart but I understood why he did it.

The romance between Finn and Skye is believable.  It could have been instalove, which I hate, but in the end, it was sweet.  Neither one of them was looking for it and it just kinda snuck up on them.  In my opinion, Finn had the most to achieve in that department.  He wasn’t cut off from relationships but he felt like his job would get in the way.  Skye, on the other hand, loved him with her whole heart and near the end of the book, I wondered how she was going to just leave her heart with Finn and move on.

For a suspense book, there isn’t that much action until the very end.  Ms. Nantus does an awesome job with the scenes in the diner.  😉  Plus, we get the final showdown with the gang leader.  Ouch!  Skye proved her mantle with me and I will say that she is one of the strongest heroines in romantic suspense that I’ve read in a long time.

Do yourself a favor and read this book.  It’s emotional, at times gritty with a great romance between two realistic characters that you will love in the end.  I feel that Trey’s book is next but I could be wrong.  Loved him.

EXCERPT #2

Lady Evie hatches a daring plan to secure her marquess

“I need lessons in seduction.”

Bloody hell. If you must work to ensnare your gentleman’s regard, he is a bloody fool,” Richard said gruffly. “You are beautiful, Evie. Clever, witty, and kind. He should be damn well fortunate you would consider him.” He scrubbed a hand over his face. “Who is this idiot?”

You, my darling. “I would rather not say.”

“Why in damnation not?”

“I already know you are going to investigate Ponsby, as you did all the other suitors who have approached me over the years. I would…prefer you not to do so with my secret gentleman.”

“And if I gave you my word?”

“I will still be directed by my desires and withhold his name from you.”

“And what makes you think I have any notion of what in God’s name you must do to attract this buffoon?”

Evie couldn’t help laughing. “Rumors says you’ve had various lovers—actresses, famed courtesans, ladies belonging to high society and ladies of questionable morals. Surely you have some idea of how they caught you so thoroughly?”

“Perhaps it was I who caught them,” he said with some amusement and with such arrogant superiority she wanted to slap him.

She settled with an inelegant shrug. “Unquestionably it was mutual.”

“And what do I get from this?”

“You get to make a dear friend the happiest of women.”

After a pulse of silence, he responded, “And that is all the incentive I need.”

A wide smile split her face, and he sucked in a harsh breath. Evie pushed out her hand for him to shake. He held her palm lightly. “Then we have a bargain. You will teach me how to kiss properly, in secret of course, how to flirt, and you will attend balls and dance with me so that he can be dreadfully jealous.”

Richard shook her hand. “I may be present at a few balls, I may dance with you, I may give you meaningful insight on how to attract this unmitigated idiot, but there will certainly be no kisses.”

It was something, Evie conceded grudgingly, but just not quite what she needed. “And why no kisses?”

The air tightened with an unexpected tension, and the pulse jumped in her throat.

“That would be too dangerous.”

“You have kissed me before.”

A powerful heat flared in the depth of his gaze. “That has no bearing on how we must go forward now. And those kisses were chaste.”

“Chaste? You’ve intrigued me, Richard, I quite thought at the time they were illicit and daring. Are you suggesting there is more?”

He narrowed his gaze in warning.

She pursed her lips. “You would prefer I seek someone else’s tuition for lessons on how to kiss properly?”

“Good Christ, I implied nothing of the sort.”

“Without lessons in the art of delicate seduction, I am certain I am to muck it up. The very idea is intolerable.”

“Evie…”

He swallowed, at an apparent loss of word as she moved to sit beside him. She quite liked ruffling the feathers of a man of the world like Richard. Acting on pure feminine instinct, she lifted the veil from her face and lightly kissed the firm side of his jaw. Her heart pounded an exhilarating yet terrifying tempo. When he didn’t shift from her tentative exploration, her anxiety lessened, and her curiosity increased. How far could she tempt him?

This is just one hell of sexy romance.  Most of the time in historical romance it can be very tame until the ONE time the hero and heroine finally make it a bed.  Not in this one.  The build up is from the very first page and doesn’t stop.  Now, I will warn you that the book starts when our heroine, Evie is about 16 and the story unfolds through 6 years.  You actually get to see their friendship bloom and see the respect that they have for one another.  It’s refreshing in a historical romance that our couple is actually friends first.  That said, their friendship is unique.  At times, I was giggling because of just Evie.

Evie is just one of those heroines that you can’t help but love from the beginning.  A bit unconventional but also very dutiful.  I loved how in the end she finally said enough is enough.  I will marry for love, not just for money.  Good thing because Richard was beyond wealthy.  And sexy.  And ruthless.  And smart.  And had the biggest heart.  I could go on but you will just have to read the book to find out his many attributes.  😉  And yes, Richard is the type of historical hero that I like.  See above.  Plus, I also liked that he just didn’t care what the ton thought about him.  Only Evie and his daughter mattered.  Oops.  Let that one slip.

And yes, there are children involved and it changes Evie’s mind about her upbringing.  Her parents are a complete trip and very stereotypical of the time and they made me giggle, like a lot.  Especially her mother.  I swear Ms. Reid wrote her for pure comic relief.  Evie’s dad and brother were good secondary characters even if they didn’t have a lot to do.  Adel is great, too and I really need to her book now.  I was smitten with her, too.

Overall, if you are looking for a great historical romance where the characters are real, the situations realistic, the smexy times slow but when they come together you will swoon and did mention Richard just by himself?  Oh, my…I’m in love.  Thank you, Ms. Reid.

Happy Book Birthday and #Review of Ruck Me (a Dublin Rugby Romance #2) by Rebecca Norinne! w/a rafflecopter giveaway @rebecca_norinne @rebeccanorinne

Title: Ruck Me
Series: Dublin Rugby #2
Author: Rebecca Norinne
Genre: Contemporary Sports Romance
Release Date: August 9, 2017
Blurb
She flies by the seat of her pants, and he’s a no-nonsense kind of guy. When these two opposites attract … oh baby, it’s game on!

I’d called Aoife O’Shaughnessy a number of things, but dumb was never one of them. Through all the trouble she’d gotten into over the years, I never once thought she was actually stupid. Until now. Because I just heard her plan to lose her virginity to the biggest a-hole we know.My first thought? How the f*ck is Aoife still a virgin? The second? Over my dead body.

So I volunteered for the job instead.

It might be the stupidest thing I’ve ever done, but once the words were out of my mouth, I couldn’t take them back. I didn’t want to.  Suddenly, I couldn’t stop wondering what it would be like to kiss the pink-haired sprite I’d known my whole life, to hear her moan my name when she comes.

And I know she’s wondering about me too.

It was only supposed to be sex, but now I’m in deep. I never meant to fall in love with Aoife; this wasn’t supposed to happen. And what came next? Well, neither of us planned on that.

*throws confetti*  *blows kisses*   And that’s just for starters.

Yes, this is me in regards to this book.  This book.  I shouldn’t call it that but I don’t know what else to call it.  I don’t read New Adult mainly because I had a happy, well adjusted time in college and in my early 20’s.  I don’t get the angst, abuse or the “I need a man/woman to make me complete and/or fix me” that a lot of authors do.  That said, there is only one other author that writes New Adult that I read and she is as brilliant as Ms. Norinne.  And yes, she writes books with sports in them.
This book is so much more than what the blurb tells you.  Sure, it’s a childhood friend to lovers trope, with not mess with a teammate’s little sister and opposites attract theme.  There is one more trope but I’m not going to spoil it for you.  😉  Only it’s truly about two people that have never noticed each other before and somewhere between growing up together and Eion deciding to deflower Aiofe, the fine line of falling in love for the first time; this is their story.  They fight, they don’t talk to each other, they breakup, and they have sex.  I know, it sounds like any other book out there but Ms. Norinne’s writing and the ability to get into their heads threw this tired cliche on its butt.  I didn’t read the first book in the series but trust me, I’m TOTALLY vested in Aion’s teammates and I need their stories.
I do have to caution you that the language is raw but it’s completely realistic between the male characters.  They pull no punches when it comes to how they talk about sex and how they do it.  I felt like I was back in my bedroom listening to my younger brother and his friends talk.  Most of the time, I was giggling because of it.  Also, keep in mind that since the characters are barely 21, the way they talk about sex is different.  I might be old (50 yrs. old) but I can remember how we talked about sex and what we were doing.  It really hasn’t changed much.
I envy Ms. Norinne because she lives in Dublin now.  I’m Irish and Scottish so I will go there one day.  I will also admit that I don’t know much about rugby but you don’t get a lesson on the game.  The game isn’t the point of the book, the romance of Eion and Aiofe and how it affects not just them but the people around them.  Declan, Aiofe’s older brother, and Eion’s team captain is a piece of work at times.  I get the over protectiveness but I truly believe without Sophie there to rein him in, there might have been bloodshed.  Again, I didn’t read their story but the few scenes that we have of Declan and Sophie explains a lot about their relationship.  🙂
There is so much more I could tell you about this book but I can’t.  I don’t do anything spoiler-ish.  But I will say that if you want to read a New Adult book that makes sense, is emotional ringing (I’m still recovering from the last 6 chapters) and sigh worthy in the end, this book is for you.  Don’t say I didn’t warn you about the last 6 chapters.

Excerpt
“How do you like your chances against the Mariners?” Aoife asked, the bed springs creaking under the weight of her climbing under the covers.
“It’s hard to say,” I answered, sneaking past the lads to head to my room. Shutting the door as quietly as possible, I dropped down onto my bed. “Liam’s rotator cuff
isn’t getting better with physio so Coach McCarthy is going to bench him until he goes under the knife. That means Paddy’s going to start. Poor kid is scared shitless.”
“Be nice, that was you not too long ago.”
“Yeah, but unlike me, Paddy doesn’t have a huge ego.”
“Oh hush, you’re not so bad.”
“Oh, I promise you I am. I’ve just kept it hidden from you all this time.”
“Come to think of it, you have always been full of yourself,” she joked easily.
“I’d love for you to be full of me.”
When Aoife sucked in a startled breath, I realized I’d said that out loud. Shit.

“Sorry,” I apologized automatically.
“No you’re not,” she answered, her voice coming through the line sounding like a long, slow drink of good whiskey.
“No,” I agreed, “I’m not.”
I was trying not to push her too hard, but she knew exactly how badly I wanted her. After coming in my pants when she’d given herself an epic, toe-curling orgasmby humping my lap, I’d learned my lesson. Now, whenever I’d be seeing Aoife, I beat off beforehand.
“About that. I’ve been thinking …”
“Yeah?” I asked, my gut clenching with nervous anticipation.
“I’m ready Eoin.”
Holy fucking Christ, thank you baby Jesus in a manger!
I screamed in my head as I fought to keep my outward reaction steady. “Are you sure?”
“Yes,” she answered, her voice growing bold. “I want you inside of me.”
I snaked my hands under the elastic waistband of my joggers and dragged them down past my dick. I couldn’t remember if I’d locked my door on the way in, but it was too
late to check. There was no way I was going to ask her to hold that thought while I made sure. If one of the lads walked in while I had my fist wrapped around my cock, that’d teach them to knock the next goddamned time.
“Say that again.” I slowly worked my hand up and down my shaft.
“What?” she asked, her tone teasing.
“Tell me you want me inside of you.”
“Are you touching yourself?”
“Fuck yes, I’m touching myself. You just told me I get to fuck you soon. It’s a miracle I didn’t come the second you said it.”
“I want you to fuck me, Eoin.”
“Are you touching yourself?” I asked on a strangled moan.
“Aoife …” I said when she didn’t respond, drawing out her name on an upward stroke. “Please tell me your fingers are playing with your pretty little cunt.”
“Yes, I’m touching myself,” she answered on a light moan. “I can’t stop touching myself.”
“Me either baby,” I agreed, picking up my pace. I trapped the phone between my ear and shoulder and reached down with my other hand to cup my balls and roll them in
my hand. “I want you so bad,” I groaned, no shame in my confession.
“I know,” she answered on a shudder. “I can’t wait Eoin.”
“I’m going to make it so good for you, I promise. But before I fuck you with my cock, I’m going to make you come on my mouth. Are you picturing it Aoife—my lips on your
clit, my tongue fucking your sweet little pussy?”
Staccato gasps echoed on the other end of the line. “Yes,” was all she managed to say between pants. “Yes, please.”
“That’s it baby, fuck your pretty pussy with your fingers and pretend they’re mine.”
I was getting close, but I wanted Aoife to come first. I always wanted her pleasure to come before mine.
“Oh my god Eoin, I’m coming!” she cried, her orgasm rolling through her. “Fuck, fuck, fuck,” she chanted.
Her pleasure was my undoing. My balls constricted and my whole body shuddered just before something like an electric current shot down my spine and I came so hard
that I saw stars.
Literal fucking stars. When I came back down from the greatest high I’d ever felt, I heard Aoife laughing into the phone.
“You still there?”
“Yeah,” I croaked. “Holy shit.”
“I know.

It’s never …”
“What?” I asked, pride egging me on. I had a sneaking suspicion what she was going to say because it had been like that for me too.
“I’ve never come that hard before.”
“Me neither,” I answered honestly.
“Shut up, you’re just saying that.”
“I promise you I’m not. That was … shit. Fucking epic, Aoife.”
“Yeah, it was, wasn’t it?” She chuckled.
“We are going to be so fucking good together, baby.”
“I like that, by the way.”
“What’s that?”

I asked, wiping my hand on a towel from my earlier shower.
“That you call me baby. I like it,” she confessed.
I thought about it for a second. I’d never called a girl I was with anything but her name and I had no idea where it had come from. It had just slipped out, kind of how Aoife had just snuck up on me. Even though the endearment wasn’t something I’d consciously decided to use, I found myself smiling. “I like that you like it.”
“Oh shit, Colleen’s calling me to come downstairs,” she suddenly whispered. “I have to go.”
“Sweet dreams baby.”
“You too,” she said, blowing me a loud kiss just before hanging up.
I stared at myself in the mirror for a few moments, pondered the wide grin and happy eyes that stared back. Shit. I didn’t know how it had happened or why, but I was definitely falling for this girl.
