Seize me From Darkness (Pierced Hearts #4)

by Cari Silverwood

Seize me from darkness Cover

This book is part of a dark erotic fiction series and may disturb some readers.

In this dirty, bloody world we live in, the answers to prayers aren’t always pretty angels.

Retaken by human traffickers, Jazmine’s one hope is ex-cop, ex-mercenary, Pieter, a man with a glower that stops lesser men in their tracks.

She prays he can save her.

But this savior is far from perfect and his flaws may prove as devastating to Jazmine as the torture of her captors.

The fire of dominance never dies.

*can be read as a standalone novel

There were days I wanted to be so close with Pieter that our skin would merge. He was big, powerful, a rock of serenity in the middle of this mad place. Then there were days I’d look at him and remember what he’d done, how good he was at killing, and I’d recognize my previous foolishness.

He didn’t understand how most every little thing he told me about himself was reinforcing my fear of him.

I didn’t understand why he could nevertheless make me catch my breath when he stripped off for a shower. Or like now, when he’d looked at me through those dangling untidy dark locks while doing push-ups. With his… fucking shirt off. Swallow thy tongue. The little octopus on the back of his shoulder gleamed and writhed as his muscles slid.

Yep. He affected me not at all. Trying not to look hot and flushed, I shifted my legs and stared at the paintwork instead.

Pieter was my own private tiger and I was locked in the cage with him.

Drooling at men wasn’t new. Having a thrill run through me at the potential for a man to grab me and do something unexpected to me – that was new.

dirty angels karina halleFor Luisa Chavez, a twenty-three year old former beauty queen, a better life has always been just out of her reach. Sure, she’s had men at her feet since she was a young teenager but she’s never had the one thing she’s craved – security. Having grown up in near poverty, her waitressing job in Cabo San Lucas can barely let her take care of herself, let alone her ailing parents. Every day is another unwanted advance, every day is a struggle to survive.

When Salvador Reyes, the depraved leader of a major Mexican cartel, takes an interest in her, Luisa is presented with an opportunity she can’t afford to pass up. She’ll become Salvador’s wife and exchange her freedom and body for a life of riches – riches she can bestow upon her deserving parents. But Luisa quickly finds out that even the finest wines and jewels can’t undo the ugliness in her marriage, nor the never-ending violence that threatens her every move.

Soon, Luisa is looking for an escape, a way out of the carefully controlled life she’s leading. She finally gets her wish in the worst way possible.

As it is, being the wife of Salvador makes her an ideal target for rival cartels and there’s one particular man who needs Luisa as part of his cartel’s expansion. One particular man whose quest for power has destroyed lives, slit throats and gotten him out of an American prison. One particular man who will stop at nothing until he gets what he wants.

That man is Javier Bernal. And he wants Luisa. He wants to take her, keep her, ruin her.

Unless she ruins him first.

“You’re a very dirty man.”
“Filthy,” he corrected me. He smacked my ass lightly, causing me to jump. “Oh, that’s just fucking beautiful.”
He did it again and again, not enough to hurt but enough to sting. Each time, he licked the place where his handprint would have been. Then, with one hand he gently pried my ass cheeks open. I couldn’t help but cringe.
“You need to relax,” he whispered. “This won’t hurt. And I’m sure you took a bath this morning, didn’t you?” I murmured yes in response. “Then you’re clean and you have nothing to worry about. As for me, I’d take you anyway I can. It’s all exquisite to me.”
He was right. He was filthy.
“Relax, Luisa,” he said again. “Relax.”
And so I tried.
The first contact from his tongue made me shudder. The sensation was so entirely new to me, but what wasn’t at this point. Yet his mouth, lips, tongue, were all warm and wet and gentle and I found my body immediately relaxing into the steady motion. I pushed aside all thoughts about how impure this was. Purity had done nothing for me, anyway. It was better to be dirty. It was better to take what you could. It was better to embrace your lustful, needful, animalistic side because that was the side that lived.

How far would you go to protect your love and your life?
When two deaths turn his world upside down, Klaus must wrestle with a problem that goes soul deep. With Jodie it was capture fantasy but now he’s made the fantasy real, dragging her along as his accomplice. No one should feel so good about something so wrong.
Maybe his soul is darker than he feared. Maybe the rules shouldn’t apply to him.

Glossary of US and Australian terms

In the interests of not jerking most of my readers out of the story with some unfamiliar word usages, I opted to sometimes use the US word instead. However, since I completed the book, I’ve been told by many American readers that they’d rather I use the Aussie words.

I’m not entirely convinced. Since I think I have far more American fans than Australian, I may still be tempted in Book 3, “Make Me Yours, Forevermore”, to use some American terms. If you want to tell me otherwise, feel free to pop a comment on my facebook wall.

This example is why I hesitate:

Klaus put on his thongs and strolled out the door to take his daily walk on the beach.

US word vs Aussie

Cell phone = mobile   US term used in the story

College  = University or Uni   Australian word used

Dishcloth = tea towel   I used the US word

Flip flops = thongs   This was explained in the story

Cooler = esky   US word used with the Australian word

Popsicle = ice block   US word used

Shrimp = prawn   This was explained in the story

Spatula = egg flip   This was explained in the story, and it’s a regional Australian term that isn’t used nationwide, I think

SUV = Four wheel drive   US word used

There may be others I substituted but missed seeing. I have become so used to doing this in my stories that it’s almost automatic. I have also used US spelling throughout. Though this book is self-published both of my earlier publishers, Loose Id and Lyrical Press, used US spelling.

“I’m not yours.” Her answer was quiet and tremulous.
Such bravery in the face of overwhelming superiority.
I stopped with my palm pressing her upper back down onto the mattress. Enough pressure that she could feel my strength, enough so that she tensed and then, as I didn’t relent, she gave in, her head lowering, her body quivering. Was she a true submissive? I was fairly certain she was.
“You’re pretty, beautiful even. Desirable. Fuckable. I scare you because I like pain more than you can comprehend. I’m not going to kill you. I’m not going to carve off your flesh and eat it. But, little toy, I am going to hurt you more than you think you can take.”
She froze in the middle of inhaling. I smiled and grasped a big handful of those dark locks just above her nape. I levered her head back until she was arched and her breasts were no longer concealed beneath her. So I took one in the grip of my other hand. “Mine,” I whispered. “You’re mine whether you fucking want to be or not.”
I squeezed both her breast and the fistful of hair, and I leaned down to look into her fear-darkened eyes.
“You need to learn not to be afraid of pain,” I murmured. “And you know why?”
She swallowed and I felt her endeavor to shake her head. Long strands of her hair fell across her face.
“If you lose that fear of pain, you will lose some of your fear of me. Not all, some. I’m not your nemesis, girl, I’m just going to be your master.”
I know, Ms. Silverwood is back with the second book with Klaus and Jodie.  A few things before I write the review:
1.  This is dark erotica.  Very dark.  You have been warned.
2.  This book has BDSM.  Again, you have been warned.  Seriously.
3.  In the first book, it was dubious consent; in this one, I don’t think they know the meaning of the word consent at all.
4.  Klaus is still Klaus but we see a different side of Jodie and I liked it.
5.  I think I love Klaus.
6.  Please read Take Me, Break Me first.  Please…you thank yourself and me.
On with the review…I will not spoil it for you by telling you what happens nor who or what is involved.  Let’s just say that there is another person brought into the mix and while I thought I would hate that, I actually liked it.  See #4 for a teaser.  Jodie has messed up big time and Klaus wants to fix it.  Typical man but with Klaus nothing is ever easy.  Poor guy.
And yes, that’s all I’m going to give you about the plot.  Sorry but if I said anymore, it would definitely spoil it.  I will have to say that this book is even more twisted then the first and that’s saying a lot.  There are only three authors that I will read that write dark erotic and Ms. Silverwood is one of them.  I’m safe in her books because I know that I will be pushed, pulled and have the nastiest book hangover known to mankind but in the end, I fall in love with her characters.  Yes, her characters.
Jodie and Klaus are far from perfect people.  The mess up, try to fix things, cross lines that shouldn’t be crossed and in the end have each other to hold on too.  Even though its dark, they are relatable and loveable beneath all of dark erotic theme.  They pull up their panties/pants one leg at a time just like you and I.  This book is a very twisted yet is a  sweet romance.  Also, you get to hear both sides of the story.  (One thing I LOVED about Take Me…I finally got the male POV)
You will question yourself and what your boundaries are in a relationship after you read Bind Me, Keep Me.  This is NOT your mother’s FSOG and Ms. Silverwood has done her research and it shows.  I know that I’ve been somewhat vocal about FSOG and why I don’t read the sub genre anymore.  Yes, knowing that the series exists turned me off completely.  Leave it to Ms. Silverwood to pull me back in and leave me wanting more.
Yes, its that sick and twisted but you can’t help it.  Cari has that ability to write a book that pushes you whether physically, intellectually or emotional.  She writes books that you tell your friends about and talk about.
Again, please refer to the 6 things that I mentioned before the review.  If you are still with me during the end…good for you.  If you want to read a book that will make you question yourself, push yourself or just want to read one of the best mindf*&kery books out there…Bind Me, Keep Me is that book.
 I love Ms. Silverwood…that is all…
