Not My First Rodeo 2 Boxed Set

by Donna Alward, Jenna Bayley-Burke, and Sarah M. Anderson
Publication Date: June 26, 2017
Genres: Adult, Entangled: Select, Contemporary, Romance, Boxed Set

In Donna Alward’s Seducing the Sheriff, Cassidy’s first foray into online dating is an unqualified disaster. Witness to a bank robbery, she’s now in danger. Sexy sheriff Joe Lawson is willing do whatever it takes to protect her, even if that means hiding her away in his secluded mountain cabin.

The living room was quiet. She found Joe sitting on the sofa, his head against the back, his eyes closed and relaxed.

Cassidy finally admitted that she was rather partial to denim and flannel. Not that his uniform wasn’t a turn-on, because it was, all starched and pressed and official-looking. But this…this was approachable and soft and manly and hit all the right buttons.

She walked softly across the room, put one knee on the sofa cushion beside him, and lifted her other leg so that she straddled his lap.

“Well, hello,” he said, his voice deep and lazy. He kept his eyes closed and she wanted to kiss his eyelashes, they were so pretty.

“Hello yourself,” she replied. She shifted on his lap, and he chuckled.

“Cass, what are you doing?”

It was now or never. They’d made the choice. She’d had a little liquid courage with dinner. “Seducing you.”

His lids lifted and his dazed eyes met hers. “Honey, you picked an easy target.”

“Really?” Damn. She’d told herself she wasn’t going to be insecure. And here she was, already asking for reassurance.

“Was there ever any doubt?” He ran his tongue over his bottom lip. “It’s been torture all day. Why else did you think I took you out in the woods?”

“To show me the falls?” She shifted again and felt him rise to meet her.

“To keep busy. To keep myself from doing what I really wanted.”

She lifted her hand and ran her fingernail over his lip, down the slight cleft in his chin. “And what’s that?”

His fingers captured hers. “Spending the day in bed with you. Very unprofessional, you see. The kind of thing that could get me in a lot of trouble.”

“Oh, very unprofessional. With me being under your protection and all.” She reached out and began sliding the buttons of his shirt out through the buttonholes. “But guess what?”

“What?” His hand settled on the curve of her hip, warm and wide, and stroked lightly. Even through her yoga pants, it felt heavenly.

“Since the arrest this afternoon, I’m not under your protection. I’m free as a bird. You could ravage me all night long and there wouldn’t be a thing inappropriate about it.”

This is my favorite in the bunch.  I’ve been reading Ms. Alward since forever and she never disappoints.  I liked how she put to sorta friends together after a rather shocking incident and just let me tell their story.  Cassidy and Joe’s story just flew off the pages.  It had heart, emotions a depth to it for such a short story.  Again, she never disappoints and I loved the whole idea of the matchmaking site.

In Roping the Rancher by Sarah M. Anderson, all Tommy knows is girls his own age don’t do it for him. Carly has no interest in being anyone’s cougar, but when Tommy says he’ll do whatever she tells him to, she can’t resist the chance to take what she wants from a man with no strings attached. But no one said anything about scarves…

EXCERPT #7 (ROPING THE RANGER by Sarah M. Anderson)

After the shirt gave, he kicked out of his boots. Then he paused for a moment, waiting for her reaction. He was still in a white T-shirt, blue jeans, and his belt. And his socks, of course. “Take off the socks,” she said. Socks were not sexy.

Hopping on one foot, he did as she said. “The shirt?”

“Yes—but leave the jeans and the belt for now.” Which didn’t make any sense. She was curious to see what he looked

like naked. As he stripped off his T-shirt, she hesitated. She was in charge here, like he said. And if she wanted

to draw this out, she could.Besides, that gave her plenty of opportunity to stare at his chest when he stood straight again. Oh God—the man was built. His chest was as broad and muscled as she had dreamed and his waist came to a narrow V. There, above his belt, she could see the rope of muscles that cut down underneath his jeans. He was cut from stone but he hadn’t been hard against her. When her knees had given, he’d caught her gently and held her tight.

“What about you?” he asked, and God bless him, he didn’t seem the least bit perturbed about standing there half-dressed. The candlelight flickered over his muscles, and glinted off the smattering of dark brown chest hair.

Unconsciously, she tensed. “What about me?”“Would you like me to undress you, too?”Unbidden, a memory—so many memories—came back to her. Of Drake grabbing her by the back of her neck and shoving her into a wall. Of him holding her there while he ripped her clothes off and told her what a slut and stupid bitch she was. Then he would haul her by her neck over to the table or his desk or the sofa, bend her over it, and beat her butt until she screamed. He liked it when she screamed. If she screamed too soon, he’d think she was pretending so he’d hit her harder and harder. And when she was sure she could never take it another second of the pain and the humiliation, he’d fumble out of his pants—because he was always completely dressed for this—and ram into her.

She couldn’t help the screaming. But she’d trained herself not to cry.

And right now, with this man who had given her a beautiful orgasm, she wanted to be naked with him. But…

But she couldn’t. She couldn’t let those feelings of helplessness and embarrassment and pain have any place in what they were doing right now. It was not the same.

She was not the same.

She stood, wobbling brie y until she got the heel of her one shoe back on. “You can take my coat off. But I’m going stay dressed for now.”

He stepped closer to peel her coat off her shoulders. “You’re killing me, you know.”

She tensed again. If only she knew what she was doing. “Oh? What are you going to do about it?”

I have to admit that I can’t remember is I have ever read anything by Ms. Anderson but after reading this story, I will be on the look out for more of her stuff.  I admit that I’m 7 years older than my husband, so this story made me chuckle a bit.  However, this story made me sad a little bit.  I wish, after reading the book that Carly should have told me more of fears when it came to the bedroom.  The above excerpt shows us that but Tommy never knew or figured it out.  That said, I LOVED how she dictated what happened in the bedroom.  This is very little D/s but it fits in their story.  Tommy finally figured out how much he cared and loved Carly and would do anything to make her happy.  Carly had/has a much bigger path to follow and I just wish that the story was a bit longer.  Overall, a great story about finding out that age is just a number; it’s what’s inside the heart that counts.

In Jenna Bayley-Burke’s Captivating the Cowboy, aspiring designer Jules is about to head to New York. Before she leaves, she’s going to help widower Slade Weston find the perfect ranch wife, but finding his forever turns into schmexytimes. Jules doesn’t want to be a wife and mom, and Slade isn’t moving across the country. It’s just a fling, until she’s not sure where she truly belongs.

“You’re a good man, Slade Weston.” She looked at him over her glass as she took a slow sip. “But we can’t do this if you’re going to do something stupid like fall in love with me.”

“I could say the same to you.” He took a long pull from

his beer, a lighter brew than the one he’d enjoyed downstairs. Chick beer. Which meant she didn’t do this often enough to keep her fridge stocked. With as easily as she’d suggested this, he’d wondered about that.

“Oh, not a problem. You’re everything I don’t want.” “Um, okay?” He couldn’t help the grin.“I mean, physically you’re delicious. But two kids and a

cattle ranch?” She placed a hand on her waist and cocked her hip out. “Do I look like that kind of girl?”

He shook his head. Not in a million years. Her strappy heels alone tossed her out of the running. And then there was her slight frame, the sexy dress, ashy jewelry, makeup, and not a hair out of place. Not to mention the eight-year age difference. She wouldn’t t into any of the boxes he’d checked on Not My 1st Rodeo.

And yet, here he stood, his body tight with desire and smoldering with heat. She was stunning, determined, and heading out of town in a matter of weeks. He needed someone modest, practical, and within reach. Two people couldn’t be more different. She was an adventure straight off the pages of a fashion magazine, and he was rooted to the land, a fifth generation cattle rancher. He’d never leave, and she’d never stay.

There could never be more than this between them. He knew it, in his heart as well as his head. A physical affair wasn’t what he needed, what he’d devoted himself to finding for the last year. But oh, how he wanted her. She stepped closer, her sweet rose scent wrapping around him. The world shifted when she was this close, and he reasoned being with her was like a vacation. A few weeks of fun that would recharge him to get on with the rest of his life. Because he already knew, one night with Jules wouldn’t be enough.

Okay.  Yes, this story was just okay for me.  I never really connected with Jules on a deeper level.  I understood why she wanted to leave but in the end, she never gave the town a chance.  With a huge chip on her shoulder and sleeping through half the town, it’s no wonder that most people didn’t like her or understand her.  I equally felt sorry for her sister, Drea.  Drea found her roots in the town and when the decision was made to stay, Jules just thought about herself and not what Drea needed or really wanted out of life.  Slade, on the other hand, is a dream.  I liked him from the start and realized that his heart is in the right place, just not how he decided to pick the women to date.  I like Jenna’s writing but this one just didn’t resonate with me.

For the whole box set

While bestselling author Donna Alward was busy studying Austen, Eliot and Shakespeare, she was also losing herself in the breathtaking stories created by romance novelists like LaVyrle Spencer, Judith McNaught, and Nora Roberts. Several years after completing her degree she decided to write a romance of her own and it was true love! Five years and ten manuscripts later she sold her first book and launched a new career. While her heartwarming stories of love, hope, and homecoming have been translated into several languages, hit bestseller lists and won awards, her very favorite thing is when she hears from happy readers.

By day, Jenna is faster than a speeding toddler, stronger than a stubborn husband, able to leap tall Lego structures in a single bound…but by night, while the family sleeps she writes romance novels where no one ever has to scoop up after the dog, change diapers, clip coupons, drive carpool, do laundry, mop floors, get silly putty out of hair, vacuum, empty the vacuum bag (gross!), exercise, count calories, apply bandaids, clean up puke…wait where was this going? Oh, Jenna writes romance because it is glamorous. Just ask the dog.

Travis King is the worst kind of asshole with good looks and enough confidence to last two lifetimes.

Viola Fisher is a goodie two shoes know-it-all who prefers fictional love stories over her own.

The only thing they have in common is their mutual hatred for each other.

She’s had a secret crush on him since she was ten but Travis has always made it very clear the feelings aren’t mutual. He’s cruel, crass and takes every opportunity to get under Viola’s skin. She’s smart, beautiful, and too good to be true. Hating him is her religion but needing her is his.

Although Viola loathes his very existence, against her better judgment she let him into her bed. Her sexy curves and filthy smart mouth make Travis want her even more and although she’s succumbed to his manwhore ways, she’s determined to not let that change a thing.

Too bad he has other plans.

Viola’s always been off-limits, but Travis is determined to keep crossing that line. She can try to push him away, but he always gets what he wants and he’ll do anything to prove he’s done playing games.

Until then, they’ll play by their own rules to see who will win the biggest battle yet—love or hate?

*Recommend for ages 18+ due to sexual content and adult language.*

Watching Viola’s cheeks turn bright red gives me a thrill every time. She’s easy to rile up, even easier to embarrass. She pretends to hate me, but let’s be honest, there’s hardly anything about me worth hating. Even when she was just ten years old and we’d just met, I could make her blush without even speaking.

I work out every chance I get, eat right, and work my ass off both in and out of the gym. When I’m not working out or at my job, I enjoy other types of recreation.  Currently her name is Rachel and she’s basically salivating at the mouth as she waits for me to give her what she’s begging for.

I give in, of course.

I’m a guy after all.

When we’re both sated and panting next to each other, I clean up and pull my boxer shorts back up. She curls her body around mine and places a quick kiss on my shoulder. “Are you kicking me out now?” I look over my shoulder and give her a sympathetic grin. “Sorry, babe. No sleepovers.”

That’s not entirely a rule set in stone, but I prefer to sleep alone. Especially if there’s no chance of morning sex the next day. I get up at five a.m. and head to the gym before I have to be to work at eight.

“All right.” She gets up and searches for her clothes. Once she’s dressed, she grabs her purse and walks over for a goodbye kiss. “Call me later.”

“Sure.” I escort her out of the house and kiss her once more before shutting the door. I spin around and nearly run over Viola as she passes in the hall.

“Aw…another victim released. How sweet of you.”

“They aren’t victims if they’re willing,” I retort matter-of-factly.

“Well, they’re airheads if they are.” She continues walking to the kitchen and reluctantly I follow.

“You sure sound pretty envious.”

“It’s not. It’s pity. There’s a difference.” She opens the fridge and reaches for a bottle of water.

“Trust me…she’s not feeling any amount of pity right about now.” I lean up against the doorframe and watch her take a long drink.

“If not pity, then definitely regret. Or perhaps she’s wondering where the nearest clinic is so she can get tested.” She takes another pull of her water and ignores my glare.

“Just because a woman likes sex, doesn’t make her an airhead. But you wouldn’t know that would you? Not when you keep your V-card hostage like it’s a million-dollar diamond.”

“For the hundredth time, I’m not a virgin!” she retorts sharply. “Just because I don’t spread my legs as much as a gymnast, doesn’t mean I’m a prude.”

“Well it sure as hell doesn’t make you a delight.”

She tosses the bottle out and steps toward me, shoving her shoulder against me as she walks past. “Knowing how to use your dick doesn’t make you a god, Travis.”

I spin around and face her as she walks away. “You speak as if you know from experience.”

“Trust me. The walls are thin. The entire neighborhood knows from experience,” she calls over her shoulder. “So are you saying I should be sorry for knowing how to use my dick?”
She freezes and turns toward me. “No, you should be sorry for anyone that falls for your shit that gets them into your bed in the first place.” She presses her lips together in a fake smile and walks down the hall and back to where Drew is still playing his game.

I don’t know what her problem is, but I’m determined to find out.

It’s already ten o’clock, and I have a long day at the office tomorrow, but I can’t get Viola off my mind long enough to fall asleep.

This never happens by the way.  Okay, well, maybe it does. Only when she gets under my skin, which happens to be all the damn time. But you can’t blame me. She’s always perfect and proper, never wrong and always knows the answer to everything. She’s that annoying smart kid in class that always fucks up the grading curve for everyone else. The one that wears modest clothes but somehow always ends up looking sexy as fuck.

On the outside, Viola Fisher is the poster child of innocence and purity. But I know better.

Viola Fisher has tattoos and a right hook that could make any grown man cry.

“I assumed he was taking over. Did you want that job?”

John’s entire body jumped as if she’d slapped him. “Hell no.”

She gulped her sip fast. She kept saying the wrong thing. Inside his blue eyes was a kaleidoscope of emotion. Alice remembered that he used to be kind. She rubbed her lips together. “Then who cares?”

He drank his wine and scanned the room. After making the rounds with his gaze, he took in her entire figure with an intensity that made her knees weak. “What is it you do, Alice?”

“Collins Organic Farm.” She brushed her brown bob behind her ear. “I work for my family. What is it you do?”

Again, his blue eyes flashed as if lightning was in his stare. She watched him, hypnotized. “I work in real estate.”

“Liar.” She tilted her head. He definitely didn’t work in real estate. She crossed her arm around her chest. Without another word, she waited for the fallout of her remark.

His eyebrows quirked in shock. Then his dimples appeared. “What do you think I do?”

She met his smile with her own. “Professional bad boy and poker player. It’s what I always thought.”

Jina Bacarr – Come Fly With Me

Why spend New Year’s alone when you can fly first class with a sexy billionaire?

Opal Carew – Played by the Master

A story of Domination and submission, where breaking the rules of the game is where the fun begins, when Jacqueline crashes a billionaire’s exclusive poker game in order to seduce him into granting a favor to save her sister, but instead finds herself Played by the Master.

Eileen Cruz Coleman – Something Like This: A Secrets Novel, Book One

Devastatingly handsome & rich Reece Carter’s mission is to win Jadie’s heart. Will she surrender herself to him or push him away?

Margo Bond Collins – The Billionaire Cowboy’s Speech: A Necessity, Texas Novella

What had possessed her to strip her shirt off?

He was about to suggest we quit.

And she didn’t want that.

In fact, she realized, if I don’t quit now, I’m not going to stop at all.

Suddenly, Leta didn’t care.

Tor’s gaze raked across her, snagging on her mouth for an instant before he dragged it up to meet her own wide-eyed stare. Everywhere his look had touched burned, as if his eyes had trailed fire across her skin.

His gray eyes turned smoky, darkening even more with desire as she watched, pinned in place by the heat he exuded.

The shy, diffident ranch hand was gone. In his place was a tall, muscular cowboy ready to take what he wanted.

And apparently what he wanted at the moment was Leta. As he held her gaze with his, he held out one hand, lightly closed, and ran his knuckles, slightly roughened from working outside, down the side of her face. The feel of his skin rasping against her sent shivers rolling up and down her back.

Tara Crescent – His Fill-In Fiancée

Cameron needs a fake fiancee. Enter ex-girlfriend Maddie. Then the past catches up.

Michele Dewinton – Valentine’s Vengeance

“Don’t like flying much?”

“When we’re up in the air it’s okay. I just don’t like the takeoff, or landing, or the bumps on the way.” The plane staggered through another rough patch and at a particularly large bump she let out a little squeal.

“We’ll be there before you know it. Should I distract you?” he asked.

She nodded grimly.

Looking around he spotted a man in a black suit, his sunglasses still on and behind him a guy with a baseball hat pulled down way too far over his eyes. “So Mr Baseball Cap over there is a major celebrity from somewhere overseas. Big time TV star, one of those Scottish highland heroes who are so hot right now.”

That got her attention, she looked where he nodded and a small smile finally tugged at her lips.

“Only thing is he doesn’t realize that his show isn’t on cable here yet so no one knows who he is. He’s hiding, but it’s only making him look like Idiot McIdiotface.”

The snort was undignified, but he relished hearing it. It was something he’d always liked about Cara, she was quick to laugh, to find joy in things.

“The guy behind him, he’s in another league. Was security for the Russian mafia for years, now he’s undercover with the CIA.”

Cara sat forward and gave him a little grin. “Not very good undercover,” she whispered. “He sticks out like a stripper at an Amish wedding.”

It was his turn to snort and the people across the aisle gave them a look.

Composing his face, he lent in to whisper in her ear. “He’s a double agent. CIA operative, posing as Russian bodyguard, but secretly still working for Russia, and having an affair with the wife of a high level Texan congressman.”

Blaire Edens – Dram Good Love

“Sorry,” he mumbled. “I was, uh. . .”

“Staring at me? Wondering what it would feel like to kiss me?”

He’d wondered if she felt the attraction, too. Over the past few weeks, he’d thought she was flirting but he’d told himself he was imagining it. “Maybe.”

“Why don’t you try it?”

He was used to being the direct one. Most of the women he dated were too busy playing coy to ever tell him what they really wanted. “You might like it.”

“That would be a shame. I was getting used to thinking you were nothing but an ordinary millionaire.”

Roderick shook his head. “I’m anything but ordinary.” He leaned closer, inhaling the sweet, floral scent of her perfume. He toyed with one stray curl, wrapping his index finger inside the ringlet. “No one has ever accused me of that.”

He pressed his lips to hers, softly at first, and kissed her softly. She tasted like the sweet heat of the single malt. She grabbed the front of his sweatshirt and pulled him closer. He slid his tongue into her mouth and the heat cycling between them went from smoldering to nuclear. Her tongue lashed against his and every cell in his body reacted.

Nicole Garcia – Noelle’s Wish

What happens when a sexy billionaire meets his match in his feisty new assistant? Chaos, nothing but beautiful chaos.

Erin Hayes – The Royal Trade: A Billionaire Prince Romance

She fell for the wrong prince.

“Why what?”

“Why are you doing this? All for your brother’s ex-fiancée?”

I stare at her, aghast. “Isn’t it obvious?”

She falters, as if she’s unsure of what to say next. I know because I’m the same way. “Tell me.”

The command comes out as a whisper.

I comb a hand through my hair. How the fuck do you put feelings, pent-up for the past four years, into a simple explanation?

“I…care you about Cara. My brother always had everything; the crown, the media attention. The expectations. Fuck that. I never wanted any of that. But you… you were the one thing he had that I wanted. And now that you’re not his…”

“So, that’s it?” she asks, hurt edging into her voice. “I’m just a possession to both him and you?”

“No, that’s not what I mean. Dammit, Cara, I—”

Words fail me. Hell, the whole universe fails me at this moment. So I do the only that comes to mind.

In one fluid movement, I force the door open further, grab her shoulders, and capture her lips with mine.

Courtney Hunt – A Teacher for the Billionaire

One sexy single dad billionaire plus one beautiful kindergarten teacher equals one scorching summer fling.

Mary Hughes – Falling for the Billionaire
Zan was considering his approach to the twins when Vicky’s sister Ronnie moved off toward the restrooms, Vicky waving goodbye.

Heading straight for Vicky, he called, “Ronnie, wait,” with no volume at all.

He stopped—coincidentally right next to Vicky—and frowned, putting his hands on his hips, as if in consternation. “Darn. Missed her.”

Then he turned to Vicky. Smiled expectantly at her. “Hi.”

“Hi.” A delicious pink blush rode her cheeks.

He found he wanted to kiss that pink skin. “I’m Zan Sinclair. You’re Vicky Brooks? I’m acquainted with your sister.”

“I know.” Her voice was breathy, oh-so-sexy. “She said.”

Her lips were a perfect natural rose. He wondered if they’d be petal soft if he kissed them….

“I’ll go get her for you!” Vicky scooted off.

Lost in her lips, he was totally unprepared for her flight. He stood there in surprise. He was wondering what he should do now when she trotted back with her sister in tow.

Ronnie didn’t look happy until she caught sight of him. Then her whole face changed, and she hove out in front of her twin like a barge.

And Vicky…stopped. She began to turn. He clenched fists. She was going to run away again. He had only seconds to act or lose her.

He covered the distance in two strides, catching Ronnie by the upper arm with one hand and Vicky by the shoulder with the other.

Vicky’s slight body was warm and soft under his fingers. A distracting surge of sheer need flooded his system. She looked up into his face, her eyes big and blue.

Her pouty pink lips trembled.

His whole body hardened, instantly ready. He almost ignored the people milling around them to yank her to him, to feel her heart flutter against him, to embrace her, to kiss her…

Sydney Logan – Songbird

Sitting down on the bench, I let my fingers drift aimlessly along the keys. I switch on the microphone and start to play the opening bars of my favorite Fleetwood Mac song.

Closing my eyes, I play and sing, allowing the music to soothe my troubled mind. I’m at the final chorus when I feel someone’s eyes on me. It’s the most incredible sensation—instinct alerting me to the penetrating stare of some stranger in the dimly lit bar.

I slowly open my eyes, and my fingers slip off the keys when I see him.

He’s seated at a table just a few feet away. His tie is undone, as are the first couple buttons of his shirt. He gazes at me, and I watch as his finger lazily trails along the rim of his glass while I struggle to remember the words to a song I’ve loved all my life.

The man rises from the seat, his eyes never leaving mine as he picks up his glass and walks over to the piano. I break the spell, forcing myself to look down and focus on the keys. Without asking permission, he sits down on the bench next to me. I take a deep breath and pray for instinct to take over as I finish the song.

After I play the last note, silence hangs in the air between us until he lifts his hand and brushes my hair away from my shoulders.

“Play something else,” he says, his voice deep and smooth against my ear.

I sing, paying no real attention to the words as we stare at each other throughout the song. I have no idea how long we sit there, but it’s apparently too long for the bartender because he announces last call.

The handsome stranger stands up and reaches for me.

“Come with me, Songbird.”

The look in his eye is unmistakable, filling me with a sense of longing and excitement that I haven’t felt in so very long. I know I’m too tired, too lonely, and probably a little too tipsy to accept this man’s outstretched hand.

I do it anyway.

Alix Nichols – Winter’s Gift

I hold out my hand. “Anton Malakhov. It’s a pleasure to make your acquaintance.”

“Anna.” She grants me a brief, but intense, joy of her touch. “The pleasure is mine.”

I go on to shake hands with her friend without taking my eyes off Anna for a second. There’s no point in hiding how much she’s impressed me.

Anna. It’s a beautiful name… even if a touch too formal.

“Does anyone call you Annushka?” I find myself asking.

“Only my mom.”

She smiles, and I debate whether I should invite her for a drink right now or ask for her number. One thing is certain. I must see her again. In fact, I need to see her as soon as possible, and as often as possible. Preferably, every day.

And every night.

She resolves my quagmire by ripping a page out of her notebook and scribbling something on it. Why am I not surprised she carries a notebook and a pen in her purse? I bet she also has a book or an e-reader somewhere in there. Although I just met her, I feel like I know her. I can see her inner core, her fundamental essence. It shines through.

She hands me the sheet, and I glance at what she’s written. There’s a phone number, her name, and a meaningless figure under it. I look up at her, about to ask if it’s an extension.

“This,” she says, pointing her slender index finger at the top line, “is my agent’s number. And below is my hourly rate.”

My jaw slacks.

The woman of my dreams is a hooker.

Tierney O’Malley – To Trust a Wicked Billionaire

One wicked sexy billionaire will do everything it takes to win his woman’s trust.

Peter Presley – Nothing But Trouble: An Alpha Billionaire Romance

Shannon is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Big homes, fancy cars, a good body: none of that matters if you don’t have someone to love you.

My mom is dead. My dad is dead. Most of my family members are jerks. They only call me if they need a loan. I’ve got my staff, like Helen. They’re cool, but they work for me. They could leave at any time. But Shannon is special, and yet, I just can’t seem to appreciate her.

I’m going to try hard not to fuck any more women. If I was able to stop eating junk food, exercise, and get into shape, I should be able to stop cheating on Shannon. Today, I’m buying her jewelry and a new dress, and then tonight, I’m taking her out to a 5-star restaurant. She’s my queen, and she deserves it.

Cristiane Serruya – So Much More
It’s unfair. He’s become even more… Hannah couldn’t find the term she needed. Handsome was too calm a word to define him. He was intensely masculine. He was sexual.

Her steps faltered for a second as Markus’s mouth opened in the slow, seductive grin that was so his, exuding confidence and animal magnetism. He stretched his hand in her direction. “Ms. Kristensen.”

Not knowing if she should be disappointed by him not recognizing her, Hannah took off her dark glasses. “Hello,”—she stopped herself from calling him by his first name. He is going to be your employer.—“Mr. Blackthorn.”

He halted mid-stride, did a double take, and his arm fell to his side as her heavily-lashed emerald-green eyes bore into his. He frowned. What the fuck?

He was aware of his own eyes widening and that he was staring. He was equally aware of the way her shoulders squared back.
The movement drew his attention downward to a figure with the elegant curves of what he could only qualify as a contemporary, tall, and slim statue of Venus, just to snap back to her face in something akin to shock.
He hadn’t recognized her at first and that was not a surprise in itself. The last time he had seen her she hadn’t been more than a bookish, shy, and pretty nineteen-year-old. She was also the daughter of his father’s housekeeper, and someone with whom he’d once considered having an affair.
His low, smooth voice slid over her and got under her skin to curl low in her belly.
As he contemplated her, he pushed his fingers through the strands, mussing the mane of chopped black hair which would appear too long if he wasn’t so tall and large.
But whatever softness the disarray might have imparted to his appearance was countered by his eyes. They were sharp and dark, a piercing ebony, like the night with no stars, nor moon; a pitch-black well she once thought she wouldn’t mind falling into.
Those eyes landed on her beautiful heart-shaped face and wandered over those full, soft, plum-rich lips.

Fuck! Recomposing himself from the most powerful reaction his body ever had to a woman, he held his hand out to her once more. “It’s been a while.”

His tenor voice conjured a number of disturbing images in Hannah’s mind: heavy velvet pulled over naked skin; steel sheathed in satin. Definitely a mass of contradictions she wanted nothing to do with coupled with a bedroom voice and a commanding tone. Hannah found herself wanting to lean closer, shock him into kissing her, just to slap that handsome face, hard. But the kisses would come and she would not slap him.

Not a while, but seven years. To Hannah it felt like a lifetime. Since Senator Blackthorn had dismissed her mother from his household, her life had turned upside down. It was ironic she was going to be working for and helping the son of the man who had fired her mother.
She looked at his hand as if it were a snake and involuntarily, her tongue moistened her lips.
His gaze zeroed in on her mouth, but nothing else gave away the vulnerability he had briefly glimpsed.

Stop. You are here for the money. She pulled herself back from the torrent of sensual feelings. Under her steel will, her face went blank and her fingers curled around his hand, firmly and detached. In an even voice, she said, “Yes, it has been a while. How are you, Mr. Blackthorn?”

Debbie White – Finding Mrs. Right

They watched some love story, chatting in between scenes while enjoying pizza and wine. Seemed neither one was truly interested in the movie. They cuddled on the couch, and in between bites of pizza, they kissed. When the movie was over, he helped clean up the crumbs they’d made and rinsed the glasses out in the sink. He wanted to show her that he too could be a good guest.

They stood inside the kitchen with locked gazes, making for an uncomfortable setting. Gabe wasn’t sure what he should do. He glanced at his watch. When he looked up, Rose was making her way toward him. “Can you stay the night?” she asked.
I have to admit that this is NOT my first book from Ms. Hughes but it is my first true contemporary from her.  Oh yes, I have devoured her Biting series.  Loved it and re-read them all the time.  If you have never checked that paranormal series out, you need to.  Just saying…
Okay, the review for this little gem.  I love my billionaires.  I always have and when they are somewhat nerdy, not the alpha-hole, funny, determined and sexy, then I’m sold.  Another trait that Zan had was that he truly didn’t want to hurt Ronnie’s feelings.  Sure he dated her for about 60 seconds but in the end, he knew that if he made Ronnie made, Vicky would ultimately pay the price.  They are twins after all and he understood that.  Unfortunately, Ronnie didn’t get the memo and at times, I really wanted to slap her.  She became like a gnat.  Irritating, pesky and truly selfish.  She never considered anyone having any interest in Vicky.  Much less Zan.  In the end, I found her to be sympathetic but it took to almost the end of the book for that to happen.  The way Ronnie treated was truly awful at the convention.
Zan is a great hero.  He is a patient man and trust me, he and Vicky get interrupted ALOT but in the end, it is worth it.  😉  What I didn’t get was he needs to pacify Ronnie all the time.  I wish that he had more of a backbone when it came to her in the beginning.  But if he did, then there wouldn’t have been a story.  LOL!  Ronnie just needed to grow up and realize that Vicky was a person, too.  Vicky also needed to stand up to Ronnie more.  I felt like there more underlying issues between the sisters that we don’t know about.  In the end, Vicky and Zan did what they had to do and Ronnie just had to grow up and realize that.
I wish I could talk more about the book.  The romance is awesome.  I love a heroine that is awkward but also, smart, relatable, considerate, so in love with the hero that she gets flustered and makes no apologies for it.  For the hero, that finally just has enough and truly goes for it.  That is Zan and Vicky.  I understand the need to not hurt Ronnie but someone has to and in the end…well, I’m not going to give away the ending.  He He!
Again, I love Ms. Hughes writing.  This is my first true contemporary from her and it won’t be my last.
