A Dance with Death

by Louisa Bacio

She’s a classic…

After recovering from an injury and uncertain of her future in the world of dance, ballerina Isabella treats herself to a dating service–some frolicking between the sheets before she decides what to do with the rest of her life is just the jeté her heart and mind needs.

He’s a bit more modern…

A successful music video choreographer, Raul is constantly surrounded by gorgeous dancers. But his life lacks a vitality and depth he needs to fuel his creative passion. He turns to a 1Night Stand to discover inspiration.

A dance between life and death…

When an accident threatens to cancel the evening of romance, Isabella and Raul will have to dance to a new beat. Can a dance with death change fate?

Oh my this is one sexy, steamy story.  Plus, there is a HUGE twist at the end that I never saw coming.  Trust me…you will love it as much as I did.  I will have to admit that this is my first Ms. Bacio story but will definitely not be my last.  I need to shop…but only after Christmas.  LOL!

What drew me into the story wasn’t so much about the dance aspect (which I love being an ex-dancer) but it was that they were to completely different people from two different worlds in the dance world that felt that instant connection.  They did share one incident were they had met before.   Too bad that Raul didn’t pick up on that.  Men…they can be dense.

I wish I could talk about the twist because that’s a huge part of the story.  *sigh*  Its a good one and once you read the beginning, it will make perfect sense when you read it.  I will share with you that Raul and Isabella were perfect for each other in so many ways.   They steam up the sheets but their story is beyond the sex.  Yes, its hot but its that emotional connection that they share over the course of their evening that truly got to me.  Which of course brings me to the end of the story…

You are just going to have to read A Dance with Death to find out what I’m talking about and see for yourself.  You will not be disappointed except that you will want more of Raul and Isabella, like me.

If Raul had met Isabella before that moment, he would have remembered her. She moved with the gait of a lifelong dancer. Elegant. No wonder ballerinas were described with terminology such as a gazelle. He worked with pop stars and modern artists so often, he’d forgotten the beauty of the more simple pleasures. Isabella seemed to shun simple. She embodied grace, refined and fragile.

Where had that thought come from? Despite being in dance—way back in the day—and working as a choreographer and producer, Raul’s image of himself was tilted, off-centered. He lacked agility—an ogre, a brute who would break the porcelain figurine the minute he got her between the sheets. His hard-on raged at the thought of her lithe body stripped bare, wriggling beneath him. Oh, he’d have to go slowly and gently, but she’d scream his name before the night ended. He could use the little ego boost and extracurricular activity.

She watched him, and he grew tired of the stalemate. Time slipped away, too precious to waste on the monotony of hard feelings.

“You need to loosen up.”

She opened her mouth, a line creased her forehead, and he moved, kissing her.

Full lips. His arm slipped around her waist and held her firm against him. She squirmed in his embrace, but soon her lips became more pliant, she leaned into his body, and let out a soft moan.

“That’s more like it,” he said, releasing her. “We need to spend more time kissing than arguing. Deal?”

Oh, well. Here goes nothing….

He turned the corner and the vision took his breath away. Silhouetted against the clear December sky stood the figure of a goddess. The three-inch heels she wore were neither the flat shoes of a frumpy, intimidated woman, nor the high heels of a lady trying to be someone she’s not. Her sculpted legs led to a conservative, yet sexy black dress that hugged her curvy figure and dipped low enough to show most of her well-toned back. His gaze made its way up to her short, wavy brown hair and he finally found the breath to sigh. She was exactly his type.

That 1Night Stand service is really good.

Pangs of desire, absent for too long, radiated through him, and the ability to spend the night with another woman seemed closer to reality. Maybe I’m ready. Katie may be the only one I’ve been with, but that’s over. Right?

Either unaware of his presence or playing coy, his beautiful date hadn’t moved from her position at the windows. The more he watched her, the more he experienced déjà vu. Something so familiar about her….

He’d know that high-pitched squeaking sound anywhere. “Katie?”

She spun, her wide eyes, her jaw slack with surprise before it snapped shut. “Sam?”

“What the hell are you doing here?”

“I can ask you the same!”

They stared at one another for several moments, recovering from their shock. Her gaze drifted from his face to the flowers he held.

“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me.” She snorted. “You’re my date?”

I bet y’all are sick of Harlie reviewing 1NS books.  Well tough…I love them.  They are quick reads for me, plus I love to see who Madame Eve is going to set up and the reason for her madness.  But what drew me to Never Too Late was the married couple trope.  I love that trope, always had and always will.  I like to read about established couples and the problems that they seem to have.  Whether it’s not communicating with each other, sex becoming boring or just life in general pulling them apart.  The great thing about married couples is the history they have and getting that spark back that was missing.

Katie and Sam have been divorced for two years and both of them know that divorcing was wrong and still feel the pull towards each other.  When they realize that Madame Eve has set them up they are angry.  Acquisitions fly and words are said that are real and palpable.  For the first time in years they are finally communicating.  Just their conversations about what went wrong and why are great.  You can feel the desire and love that they both still had for each other.

While there is a smexy time, its raw and emotional for both of them.  It was unexpected but needed in a way that somehow worked for Katie and Sam.  Its down and dirty but not graphic.  I appreciated that Ms. Catherine wrote their story with dialogue and not the usual sex scene after sex scene.  She wrote an honest book about what broke up a marriage and what Katie and Sam needed to do to mend it.  *sigh*

The ending of the book is sweet.  Especially the last line.  *wiggles eyebrows*  I hope that Ms. Catherine writes a book about another married couple.  She hit the head on the nail with Sam and Katie.

Waking Sarah by Krystal Shannan w/excerpt #6 & giveaway! WOOT!

Vegas Mates, Book 3

Council threats and Renata’s deadly attack leave the Vegas pack scrambling to regroup…

Heartbroken over the death of her fiancé and tortured by a voice in her mind that’s haunted her since childhood, Sarah McLain learns her true ancestry after attending her best friend Margaret’s wedding. Can the pack save Sarah from the darkness that threatens to overwhelm her? Or will the wolf inside drive her over the edge before they can show her being a supernatural being is a good thing?

Chris Michaels is in charge of training the new latent werewolves at the O’Hearn mountain inn, now known as Woodhaven. His focus is tested when he finds out the beautiful but sad redhead, Sarah McLain, is his trainee.  The connection he feels to her is strong but not magickal, and his wolf claims it foolish to listen to his human instincts.  Can Chris heal her broken heart in time, or will he lose the woman he knows is perfect for him.

Stop #6 – Excerpt

He strolled barefoot down the main hall and walked into the empty dining room, his mind totally focused on raiding the fridge for leftovers from last night’s wedding feast.

“Hi,” a feminine voice squeaked from the corner, surprising him and eliciting an under-the-breath curse. No one ever surprised him. Where the hell had she come from?

“Morning,” he forced out. He hadn’t thought anyone would be up yet.

“Sorry, if I startled you.” Her voice was soft and silky. “I saw a wolf walk across the lawn. Did you see it? I didn’t think wildlife would come so close to the building. It was so beautiful.”

Chris grinned at the unknowingly bestowed compliment to his wolf. Maybe Sarah McLain wouldn’t be too against finding out she was a wolf as well.

Her burgundy red hair was twisted up on her head in a messy bun, and her green eyes sparkled. It was the most excitement he’d seen from her the entire weekend. She’d been severely depressed when she first arrived and very reserved, but now… He couldn’t stop staring at her creamy white skin. The little tank top and athletic shorts didn’t leave much to the imagination, but he wouldn’t mind peeling them off to see the rest of her delicious body. How did I not notice those curves before now? Gods, and her scent. She smelled like the morning glories outside near the deck.

“Because you were still thinking about Nicole.”

I’ve moved on.

“I noticed.” His wolf chuckled.
