Excerpt Two:

Kerry looked around for the nearest cashier window, spotted one past the roulette and craps tables, and hurried toward it. As she passed the craps table, she looked at her ticket again, with its final payout of one thousand and seventy-five dollars. It was the most money she’d ever won at the casino. Tonight was indeed her lucky night. This money would certainly give her some added time while she made up her mind about what she wanted to do next about finding a job. Still looking down at her ticket, she nearly fell to the floor when she ran into something rock hard. Or make that someone. As she began to fall backward, her arms doing wild cartwheels to try to regain her balance, her eyes found the most gorgeous man she’d ever seen standing in front of her.

He was tall and lean, with striking blue eyes and light-brown hair that fell in waves to his shirt collar. Women would kill for hair like that, it was so perfect. He looked like he’d stepped out of a GQ magazine cover; or better still, put him in a suit of armor and give him a sword, and he would become the legendary knight Tristan come to life. A hero destined to make the ladies swoon, and Keira was ready to swoon. He was impossibly handsome.

All these crazy thoughts swirled through her mind as she fell backwards. This tumble was going to be so embarrassing, never mind the bruising her bottom would endure. Much to her surprise, none of that happened. A strong arm wrapped around her waist at the last minute and prevented her from falling. Instead of sitting on the floor embarrassed, she found herself pressed against a hard and very toned chest.

“Oh, my God! I’m so sorry,” she blurted out. “I wasn’t looking where I was going.”

Blue eyes twinkled at her. “The fault is mine. I stepped back from the table without looking. Please accept my sincere apology,” the handsome stranger said in a charming English accent before releasing his grip on her waist.

Could he be any more perfect? Not only was he Adonis, the god of beauty and desire, in the flesh, but an Adonis with an English accent. Her mouth hung open as she stared at him.

My, my.  Royals, a marriage of convenience and relatives that are just vile.  Love it.  It’s catnip to me.  I love royals and the trope of a marriage of convenience but I’ve said that already.  What makes this one special are the characters themselves.  Keira and Cade are just the hero and heroine that I like.  They are NOT perfect and have some baggage but they are just so dang likable.  While reading the trope, usually the hero is the idiot, non-relateable or I just don’t connect with him.  Not so with Cade.  He’s a gentleman to a fault and really tries to make everyone around him happy; just not himself.

Keira is just the same.  But with her, she’s a crossroads.  We’ve been in her position before.  Last in, first out.  Basic Inventory 101.  I’ve been there and it’s no fun.  What I really liked about her saying yes to Cade is that she did it because she cared.  You could tell that she cared about her sister and the kids, too.  Shannon cracked me up at times.  Puppy!  My son slept with Anna, a penguin into a few years ago and he refuses to put her up.

The setting for the book is pitch perfect.  I LOVED how the author explained how an estate is run and at times, I felt like I was in a historical novel.  No slam because I love historical novels and she gave a great nod to that genre.  🙂  Also, what Keira and Elizabeth did for the estate is brilliant.  Cade’s siblings, Elizabeth and Edward are a bit one dimensional.  Especially Edward.  You’re supposed to hate him and you do but I never felt like that thread is really finished.  I’m hoping that Elizabeth will get her own book and maybe we can get, or I will get some closure.  Sure, sure their relationship is explained but I wanted more.  And trust me, I’ll be reading more of Debra Elizabeth.

Overall, this is a modern fairy tale that despite being a bit typical, the writing and the characters are phenomenal.  Plus, royals!  A marriage of convenience.  Shopping at Harrod’s and Shepard’s Pie.  I love Shepard’s Pie.  Just saying…

I agree with you, Marika 🙂 the book was some sort of wedding fairly raffle tale and sometimes I too felt like reading a historical romance.
