Seducing the Enemy

by Noelle Adams

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
After being injured in a tragic accident as a child, Marietta Edwards has lived a sheltered life. Finally recovered, she wants to indulge in pleasures entirely new to her, beginning with seducing a sexy stranger. It’s her bad luck when she realizes that the man who awakened her body and emotions is none other than Harrison Damon. Their families have been embroiled in a fifteen-year legal battle. The man she’s given herself to is her worst enemy.
The heir to a vast fortune, Harrison believes the unforgettable night he spent with Marietta is just a fling. Then he discovers she’s an Edwards—a woman born of the family he despises most. He shouldn’t see her again, but no matter how he tries, he can’t quench his attraction for her. He doesn’t know what her game is, and he won’t let her seduce him again.
Can two people destined to be enemies find love with each other?
Excerpt One:
He couldn’t take her in the back hallway of a nightclub, no matter how tempted he was.
He forced himself to release her and step back, still bracing himself with one hand on the wall.
Her cheeks were deep pink, her hair messy, and her lips swollen. She was the sexiest thing he’d ever seen. “Wow,” she said. “Wow.”
“I agree.”
“Did you want to…” She ducked her head to hide an inexplicably shy expression.
“I hope you were going to ask whether I wanted to continue this elsewhere. Because the answer is definitely yes.”
She raised her eyes, and excitement flickered through her lingering heat. “Really? You don’t have to go back to work?”
He smiled, privately cursing the damned inspection report he still needed to write. He was never late. His responsibilities as a Damon were always his priority.
“Work can wait.” He couldn’t miss out spending the night with this beautiful, passionate woman. The report wasn’t urgent, and he could get up early tomorrow to prepare for the settlement meeting.
She looked surprised when he suggested they go to his hotel, so he wondered if she’d thought he was a local.
It was nice that she had no idea who he was.
While she texted her friend, he ducked back into the main room to grab his tablet and tell the floor manager to release his table.
“By the way, I’m Etta,” she said as they waited for his car.
“Harri—” he began, then cut himself off. She might not recognize his face—not everyone did—but she could easily recognize his name. And that might change things.
“You don’t really look like a Harry, but I like it.”
He’d always hated being called “Harry.” In fact, schoolmates had only used that name when they wanted to annoy him. After hearing Etta say his name with that particular lilt, however, he decided it wasn’t so bad.
She beamed with an overflow of warm excitement.
“What did I do to deserve that smile?”
She flushed and glanced down. “Am I too excited?”
He almost choked. “Too excited? Who the hell told you that was even possible?”
“I don’t know. It’s just that the world seems to think being cool is the way to go, and I can never pull it off.”
He realized that was one of the reasons why she seemed so different, why she seemed so real. There was no pretense about her, and it thrilled him. “Cool is overrated.”
She peered up at him curiously. “You seem to pull it off very well.”
“Maybe I’m overrated.”
“That remains to be seen.”
Review:
I have a new book crack addiction and its the Indulgence line from Entangled.  As most know, I love my category romance.  Yes, it can be predictable and some of the tropes are overused but for me its comforting to know what I’m reading.  The Indulgence line for me is the Harlequin Presents line without the hero being a complete and total douche.  Sure they can be somewhat cruel, ruthless and uncaring but peel away their layers and underneath it all, the bleed the same way everyone else does.  Plus, the heroines have functioning brain cells and they used them.  They don’t let their heroes roll over them or bully them.
Harrison and Etta are the perfect example of an Indulgence couple that I love to read.  Etta is a smart, smexy and a virgin.  I know, right?  Considering that she had just started to walk again after 13 years in a wheelchair, Etta is learning to live again.  Her life after the car accident was full.  She went to university, had friends and a loving family.  Unfortunately, she did have issues that she still dealt with.
Harrison is a study in contrast.  Sweet, caring and dedicated to his family, he turned on a dime when it came to finding out about Etta and her so-called deception.  But that also made him endearing to me.  He fought his emotions the whole time when dealing with Etta at his uncle’s house.  *sigh*  The wasp incident was hilarious.  Just saying…
I will have to say that the secondary characters are top notch, too.  Between Damon, Gordon the butler and Harrison’s brother, they all play an important part in Harrison and Etta’s relationship.  What really got me was the way to Ms. Adams wove Harrison’s and Etta’s personal issues and demons mirrored each other but it was the way that it was written that touched me.  Usually in a category romance, its the hero that needs a slap upside his face but in this book, its both of them.  Just not too hard.  Harrison and Etta knew their shortcomings but it took both of them to realize that they needed each other to be complete.
I can not highly recommend that you read an Indulgence book.  They are intelligently written category romance that features strong characters using the usual tropes but with a twist.  Plus, this book is set in London and I can’t resist a book setting in London.  🙂
*disclaimer, most people know that I read a lot of Harlequin, hence the name of the blog.  I have found that Entangled’s category romances have twists that I never see coming.  So, to anyone and especially Ms. Adams and Entangled, I’m sorry for the comparison and I don’t mean to offend.* Sweet Kissrecommend-harlies- new
