Grass isn’t always greener…

DIVORCE.

I never dreamed this would become my reality.
But it is.
After feeling neglected and alone for far too long, I end it,
Blindsiding my husband in the process.
He’s hurt, torn, and confused,
Never expecting me to leave.
His pain tears at my heart, begs me to stay.
And I almost do.
Almost.

Moving on isn’t as easy as it seems.
The memories tap at my conscience,
Reminding me of what I’m missing,
What I used to have.
But, I walked away,
From the man I promised forever,
Possibly making the worst mistake of my life.

I’ve let go, given myself a promise of a new life, new hope.
But does the other side have more risk than reward?

Words can not describe how much I LOVED this book.  Ms. Duncan is a new to me author and trust me, I will reading Lydia and Marcus’ story.  Plus, if you read the snippet of Paige’s story…DANG!  That one is going to be a doozy.  I just fell in love with Sean.  But I digress…on to my review.
I love the second chance trope…when done right.  This one is done right and more.  It deals with a married couple and the wife feeling neglected and decides that she wants a divorce.  No talking to the husband, just that see wants a divorce.  Okay, so there is NO communication and after being together 8 years, Charlotte’s had enough.  Poor Nate.  Blindsided like that.  Poor dude never knew what hit him and I think it was a little unfair to him but then hey, there wouldn’t be a story.  I loved how their back story was told in flashbacks.  With every little thing that Charlotte tried with her new beau, Ethan, it just brought up memories of Nate.  Plus, it didn’t hurt that everything that she felt for Nate, she never felt with Ethan.
Ethan is a creeper and I had that part pretty much figured out.  What I didn’t know was to the lengths that he would go to.  There are two parts that COULD be triggers for some and one of them…heinous.  Evil to the max.  I liked getting to know Marcus during this time and it made me want his story with Lydia that much more.  The suspense element that Ms. Duncan wove in with Ethan is spot on.  Not too heavy but creepy nonetheless.  Great job.
The girls are great.  Lydia, Scarlett, and Paige.  I want those girls in my corner when push comes to shove.  They never made Charlotte feel bad for her actions or her thoughts.  They supported her in whatever she decided to do.  Well, maybe not with Ethan but you just have to read that part of the book.  😉
Overall, I really enjoyed this second chance romance.  It had a creeper, sexy times, a real romance, a dog, babies and a hero and heroine to really root for.  This book is definitely on my keeper shelf.
Like buy the book now. You’re welcome!

It’s easy to recognize the bad when you’re in the moment. All the good is erased and you’re blinded by the negative. Each fight, every moment of hurt starts as a small scab. If taken care of, it’ll heal. But the more you pick, the worse it gets until it festers and infects everything. Is that what I let happen to my marriage? What if I had tried to fix my initial hurt instead of internalizing and letting it fester?

Rachael Duncan is an Army wife and mother to two beautiful girls.
