OUTBACK AFFAIR

by Annie Seaton

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Jessica Trent wants to be a full-time writer for Cuisine magazine, but in order to land the gig she has to snare a one-on-one with the reclusive Alessandro Ricardo, a man hell-bent on staying out of the limelight. The last thing she expects as she heads to Crocodile Springs resort in northern Australia is to end up traveling across the Outback with a rugged and far too sexy barramundi fisherman.
Ex lawyer Alex Richards protects his privacy and his heart in equal measure. So when a Yankee bombshell in need of a ride turns up and threatens both, he decides to teach her a lesson. As they make their way through the wild country together, the attraction between them ignites. Alex must choose between his heart or letting go of his past … and will Jessica understand why he lied once she finds out who he really is?
EXCERPT :
“May I have the check-in form, please?”
She gasped as a large tanned hand whipped past her arm and grabbed her keys. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Jess tried to keep her voice level as he dangled the keys rudely in front of her face.
“I’ll move the car for you. Janet here will get you all checked in,” he said. “Which cabin, Janet?” He turned to the woman behind the counter. “I may as well park it for the sweet young lady.”
Jess was at a loss for words. No way did she want this unkempt hulk knowing her room number.
“Last one on the left down by the boat ramp,” Janet called after him as he strode to the door. “And watch out for the crocodile. There’s been a biggie hanging around the ramp all day. The rain might get him wandering.”
“Oh, and by the way.” He paused in the doorway and looked back over one shoulder. “Don’t look at me as though I’ve just crawled out of the slime. The back of your pretty shirt is covered in grease.”
The door slammed shut behind him Jess looked up at the woman behind the counter. “Are all Australian men so…so rude?”
Review:
Confession time…Ms. Seaton is another author that if she wrote the phone book I’d buy it and read it from cover to cover.  She is one of my all time favorite Aussie authors.  She has that certain voice that when you read her books set in Australia, her love of her country and culture is evident.  The affection is contagious and trust me, when I was reading Outback Affair, I wasn’t thinking Crocodile Dundee.  I was thinking of the beautiful swimming hole that Alex had found for them, his descriptions of territory itself and suprisingly the coastline.  Yes, as I dumb Yank, I forget that the Outback even having a coastline.  *head slap*
Okay, on with the review; didn’t mean to trail off into a different terriotry.
Jess and Alex are great characters.  We are introduced to them in a hilarious way that only a Yank (Jess) and an Aussie (Alex) would wind up in that kind of situation.  The dialogue from the begging with Jess is snarky but sad in a way.  She’s smart and knows what she wants but her getting there is part of her scatterbrained charm.  Jess is the type of person that goes in feet first and damn the scenrio if it doesn’t work out.
Alex is keeping a huge secret from Jess.  One that would help her out in her job but not willing to help her out, he decides to teach her a lesson instead.  Too bad that his heart didn’t communicate with his head.  Men are simple creatures in the grand scheme of things but Alex didn’t fully think this one out and just like Jess, he can be scatterbrained, too.
Ooooo, these two were hot together once the smexy times happened.  But the great thing about Ms. Seaton and her writing is that her characters slowly build up to smexy times.  Its not a wham bam thank you mam.  You feel the emotions that even a partial skinny dip has with these two.  Its scatters them and fully opens their hearts for more.  *sigh*
There is one thing that didn’t set well with me about the story.  I felt like Jess got off a little too easy in the end.  Alex had to grovel and Jess had a HUGE secret too and it was never revealed to Alex in the book.  Her secret is never told in the book; at least Alex doesn’t found out about her lineage and even in the epilogue (loved), its not mentioned except for a name.  I realize that I’m being sorta picky but it doesn’t take away from the overall book.
I highly recommend Ms. Seaton and Outback Affair.  This is part of a series but its not necessary to read the other stories to understand Alex’s story.  🙂  Oh and Ms. Seaton, in your next book, pictures of Oz would be AWESOME!  Just none of the deadly bugs/animals that yall have over there.  Thanks.
She sits in her writing chair, gazing at the ocean and writing stories.  Their two children are grown and married and she loves spending time gardening, walking on the beach and spoiling her two grandchildren. She has always been fascinated by all things romantic and has found her niche in life writing romance novels, ranging through contemporary, historical, suspense and paranormal…but all with romance of course.
Her working life has seen her through several major career changes and Annie has now retired from the world of full time work and has fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a published author.
Annie’s debut full length novel, Holiday Affair, a contemporary romance set in the South Pacific was released as part of Entangled Publishing’s Indulgence line in March 2012 and has been a best seller on both Amazon, and Barnes and Noble.   1. Lots of people get very excited about visiting the Aussie Outback. I want to read what it’s like. A good romance will leave me loving the Aussie Outback. I left my heart with Richard Chamberlain in The Thornbirds. Would love to read this one too.
  2. The diversity of the Australian outback has always been amazing to me. I love admiring the beauty of the countryside and the outback certainly has beauty in abundance. I also am a fan of the beach, so after battling the vicious bugs and other beasts of nature we don’t have here in the relatively sedate states, I’d relax and recuperate from the adventure with an adventure and a book or fifty on the beautiful beach. What could be more perfect?
