Escaping the big city…

For love under Icelandic skies

When surgeon Betty Jacinth’s heart is broken once again, she takes a job in Iceland for a change of scenery. She expects cold weather—but not the frosty welcome she receives from gorgeous but brooding Dr. Axel Sturlusson! Now father to his orphaned niece, Axel gradually thaws, and a flame ignites—but when Betty’s ex begs her to return, can she make the right choice for love?

Surprised?  Don’t be.  I LOVE this line.  It’s really hard to find at times.  You can belong to the book club through Harlequin to get them or the Harlequin website.  If I had one major complaint about that, Harlequin needs to do a better job at marketing them.  As someone that NEVER missed ER, I love medical procedures/saga/romance books.  This line delivers and so does Ms. Ruttan.  This isn’t my first time to read her work; in fact, I devour her medicals.  She doesn’t go over my head with the medical and delivers on the romance.  In spades.

What really drew me to this one was the location.  Iceland.  Ms. Ruttan made me feel like I was actually there.  Sure, I’ve seen shows that feature Iceland.  The people, the culture and such but Ms. Ruttan really makes me believe that I’m there.  Plus, I really believed that I was in the operation room, too.  She also paints a vivid picture of Betty and Axel.  I had to chuckle when Betty first sees him and thinks Viking.  I swear I kept thinking Thor was there.  But I digress.  The comments and side jokes about Betty’s choice of footwear is a constant in the book and its funny to me.  She’s a New Yorker so she knew what she was doing all along.  He he!

The romance in the book is a slow burn and very subtle.  Both Axel and Betty have battle scars that needed to heal before they could truly be together.  Axel finally standing up to his dad, Betty finally giving it back to her ex, Thomas.  OMG.  That scene is what made the book for me.  Plus, Axel on a plane.  And that’s all I’m going to say right now.  You just have to read the book to find out what I’m talking about.

Peeps, you must search out this line from Harlequin.  The locations are at times exotic, the romance believable between the characters and the plots lines very realistic.  I wish that I could describe what it’s like to read this line without giving too much away in the way of the story.  As I said, I’ve been reading this line for a long time and I’m glad that I found it again.  I won’t make the mistake of ever forgetting it again.  Ms. Ruttan brought me back in the fold and for that, I’ll be forever grateful.
