Review of Earth Enchanted (Elemental Magic #1) by Brynna Curry w/a Rafflecopter Giveaway!

Harlie here. I’m doing something a little different. I am reading the whole series. Instead of reviewing them all together, starting today and for the next 4 more Wednesday’s, I will post my review of the books in series order. I have already read 4 out of the 5 books. Books #1 & #2 need to be read in order but the others can be read as standalones. Enjoy!

Earth Enchanted
Elemental Magic #1
Blurb: Writer Liv Corrigan has the worst luck with men — her telepathy tends to make them run for the hills. When she meets widower and ex-cop Jack Roarke, she decides to keep her talent hidden. Things are looking up until their third date crashes and burns as the man who murdered Jack’s wife turns out to be after him too.

Injured, Jack retreats with Liv to his house under armed guard. But with Liv’s mysteries rapidly coming unraveled, a diamond-thief killer to stop and passion in the air, the safe house is anything but safe for their hearts!

reviewWhere to start…hmmmm?  I know that Ms. Curry will get a bit upset with me if I told my dear readers that this series is more fantasy than paranormal for me.  This book in particular has the most suspense element in it, too.  Am I upset?  Good lord NO.  I love suspense in a book, throw in a great romance that neither person was looking for, a jewel thief with more than just good looks but a heart and a legend that is just unfolding.

Like I said before, I’ve read 4 out of the 5 books already and this one is my favorite.  Why?  I’m really not sure.  Every story is different and there is an underlying thread that will be finally finished in the last book of the series.  In Earth Enchanted, the series is well laid out with all of the characters that we will get to know in the following books.  Ms. Curry weaves the characters in and out of the story with ease so no worries on trying to keep up.

I do, however, hate a character in this book and unfortunately she’s in the next book, too.  UGH!  Ms. Curry knows this but this character is IMPORTANT in the Jack and Liv story.  She is the catalyst that ultimately gets Jack and Liv to fall in love.  So, yes she’s a *itch but a very important one.  And I think Ms. Curry will understand if you do hate her.

The suspense element is fantastic!  Things get blown up, people get shot at and reading about the jewel thief is just WOW!  Pay close attention to the jewel thief.  I was blown away when his true identity is reveled.  🙂  I think I fell in love right then and there.

I loved Jack and Liv.  Both were just well written characters that you will fall in love with from page 1.  Well, I least I did.  The interaction with her brother Ryan is funny and touching.  I would be remiss to mention that Ryan is a character that you need to pay attention to.  I couldn’t figure him out in the beginning but once everything is said and done…I felt bad for him and what he did to Liv and Jack.  He had lots of explaining to do with Jack.  Those scenes between them were great near the end of the book.

Overall, this is great start to a series that I have fallen in love with and it has a fantasy element in it.  I know, who knew?  I can be so weird in what I read anymore.

  1. Thank you for the review, Harlie! Love it! And yes, play close attention to all the secondary characters. I like series, so you never know who may show up in a future book. Waving to all who stopped by. Nice to meet you.

      1. Lol. I can assure you Dev isn’t a tease though. It’s called Fire Ice for a reason *winks* and if you play close attention you’ll meet the hero of Charm of Light (that would be Allaina’s story, new series). He’s handy with sword and sorcery too. And will make an excellent non-sparkly vampire…eventually.

So what do you think?
