Adult Contemporary Romance
Mass Market Paperback & ebook, 384 pages
December 1st 2016 by Harlequin Heartwarming

A DEA stealth mission has brought coast guard Lt. Commander Eli Pelletier home. But when he ends up aiding rescue swimmer Aubrey Wynn during her own harrowing mission, powerful emotions reignite between them. Except Aubrey doesn’t want Eli’s protection. She wants answers.

Twelve years ago, Eli broke up with Aubrey without telling her the real reason he was leaving Pacific Cove. How can he try for a second chance if he’s forced to deceive her again? Amid suspected drug trafficking and a sabotaged Christmas contest, Eli must find a way to regain Aubrey’s trust without compromising his career or endangering the woman he loves.

Do you see a pattern?  Yes, I’m on a Harlequin Heartwarming kick in reading.  I love this line.  It’s clean, wholesome and emotional.  It’s my go-to line when I want to feel good.  Feel good about the characters and just lose myself in a book.

Ms. Ross delivered on so many levels with me.  First off, her writing.  It just flows and her dialogue is spot on.  The scenes were Aubrey and Eli on rescues, I really felt like I was there.  Of course, I channeled Kevin Costner.  (If you don’t know the reference…shame on you.  Look it up.)  Anyway, I really felt the camaraderie between Gale, Eli and Aubrey.  Most people forget that the Coast Guard is part of our military and Ms. Ross really did her research.  I also appreciated Aubrey’s dad and how he just couldn’t totally step away from the Guard.

Another thing that stood out for me was the whole family/community aspect.  We got to know about Eli and Aubrey’s family.  I connected with them and oh…Ms. Ross, Gale and Nina’s book needs to be written.  Talk about a couple that I immediately connected with and fell in love with.  I liked how each one of the family members was crucial to Eli and Aubrey finally figuring out that regardless of the 12 years, they still loved each other.  They just needed to figure out it.

The one surprise in the book was the suspense element that is there in the book.  It’s not heavy-handed and the twist at the end.  Oh lord…I NEVER saw that coming.  I like when an author surprises me like that.  Blew me away.

Did Aubrey and Eli finally figure it all out between them?  I think so, but in the next book (hint, hint), we, at least me, will get to see where they are and going in their lives…together.

Did I mention that I need Gale and Nina’s book?  Like NOW.  Those two were just IT for me.  I can’t wait to read it.

You should read this book, too.  Great characters, awesome storyline and realistic dialogue.  Not to mention emotional and a great second chance romance.  Oh and there is a Christmas contest, too.  Two words…Crab Boil.  LOL!

Carol Ross lives with her husband and one loveable miscreant of a dachshund in a small town in Washington close to both the ocean and the mountains. She adores the Pacific Northwest because it provides her with endless opportunities for the activities she loves—hiking, running, skiing, and spending time outdoors. Although she enjoys reading in many genres, she writes what she loves the most—romance, especially light-hearted stories about the fun, flirty, and often-tumultuous path toward a happily ever after.
