Welcome Cate! Please start off by telling us a little about yourself.

Hi, everyone! Thanks so much for spending a little time with me today. My name is Cate Beauman. I’m the author of the best-selling, multi-award winning Bodyguards of L.A. County series. My family, which includes two huge Saint Bernards, lives in North Carolina.

Is Deceiving Bella a single title, or part of a series?

Deceiving Bella is the eleventh novel in the Bodyguards of L.A. County series. If this is your first time joining Ethan Cooke Security and his team of bodyguards, you’re in luck. Reed and Bella’s story stands alone. You can jump right in, and shouldn’t have any trouble following along.

What were your inspirations for the story?

I’m a crime television junky. When I’m in need of inspiration, I grab a pen and pad of paper and plunk myself down in front of the TV. Late last fall, I stumble upon a mafia docuseries on Netflix. I found the violence and mobster lifestyle simply fascinating. By the time I finished episode six, I knew Reed and Bella’s adventure had to include a gangland element.

Please share your setting for Deceiving Bella. Have you ever lived or visited there? If so, what did you like most?

Deceiving Bella takes place in Los Angeles and New York City. I’ve never been to LA, but I certainly plan to go. Luckily, the internet makes it easy to write about places without actually having to travel there. I’ve been to New York City several times. Although I’m not much of an urbanite, I find the energy and sheer size of the city so fascinating.

When did the writing bug first bite?

The writing bug first bit me in 2010. I never knew I wanted to be an author. Honestly, I didn’t even know I could tell stories. My family and I had recently moved cross-country for my husband’s career. I accepted a job that made me very unhappy. I ended up resigning and didn’t know what I was going to do. One night while I was lying in bed reading, I had an epiphany. I turned to my husband and told him I was going to write novels. I think he thought I had lost my mind, but he supported my goals. Here I am six years later, still tapping away at my computer keys every day.

Who are you favorite authors, book/series?

I love anything that Nora Roberts writes. She is my most favorite author. If she tells the story, you can bet I’m going to read it!

Do you have any hobbies or special things you like to do in your spare time?

I love to cook and bake, but I’m also a perpetual crafter. I knit, make jewelry, and try all kinds of other things. I think it’s fun to create characters that have professions or hobbies I want to learn more about. I often take up that craft so that I’ll be able to write about it with more knowledge.

What’s the strangest thing you’ve heard or seen?

I must live a pretty sheltered life because I can’t think of anything off the top of my head, but one thing that grosses me out to no end are those hot dog eating contests I see on TV. Just thinking about them makes me gag. I don’t know how people eat that many hot dogs, let alone soak the hot dog bun in water so they can swallow them. I’m shuddering right now.
What is the one thing that you would tell an inspiring writer to do?

Write every day because you love it and for nothing more. Once you enter the publishing industry, it’s easy to get caught up in deadlines, social media, profit margins, book launches, etc. It’s amazing how quickly you can get burnt out when you forget your purpose. Make it your goal to tell a good story. The rest isn’t nearly as important if you don’t have a quality adventure to share.

reviewMorgan’s Hunter #1 Review:

Okay, so I read the #2 book first but trust me, I fell in love with Hunter and Morgan even before I read their book.  They were great secondary characters for Sarah, Ethan and yes, Jake (Sarah’s deceased husband).  Read my review for my take on Hunter dealing with Sarah and Ethan’s relationship.

So this review will take a harder look at Morgan and Hunter.  Keep in mind that since I’m also reviewing the third book, it will be a bit shorter.

I will admit that at times I really, really wanted to slap Morgan.  She had some TSTL (too stupid to live) moments in this book.  Most readers will be turned off by this but I wasn’t.  You need to remember what her life was BEFORE meeting Hunter.  Sheltered, pampered and focused on her job.  Highly educated but when it came to the “social skills”, she lacked.  She grew as a person and a character for me in the book.  By the end of it, she became the woman that Hunter and the read knew she could be.

Hunter…he’s not Ethan but dang…I’d take him, too.  Alpha through and through but once he saw Morgan, he was a goner.  The thing that bothered me about Hunter was that he kept some things from Morgan that truly would have made her not so TSTL.  The alpha in him kinda bothered me from time to time.  Yes, he was trying to protect Morgan but she is an adult and should have been treated as such.

The action is non-stop in this book.  The twists and turns made my head spin and I loved it.

Give Morgan and Hunter a chance.  You will love them as much as I do.

Falling for Sarah review (Posted on June 17, 2016)

Holy shit!  Maybe I’ll breath next week.  No, maybe next month.  Yes, this book was THAT good.  Where has she been all my life?  Cate Beauman, that is.

Let me explain…romantic suspense is how I cut my teeth when I started reading romance.  Linda Howard, Karen Robards, Karen Rose, Andrea Kane, Julia Garwood and Sandra Brown are still my go-to authors when it comes to the sub-genre.  They are all auto-buy authors for me and now I can add Cate Beauman to the list.

Sarah is the kind of heroine that I just love in romantic suspense.  She’s smart, doesn’t “need” the hero to save her and above all is confident in herself and her relationships.  That said, Ms. Beauman puts a great spin on the friends to lovers trope that deals with babies, being deployed and death.  It’s sad but it quickly gives way to hope and love.

Ms. Beauman doesn’t skirt the issue of Sarah losing her husband and the father of Kylee.  Jake, Sarah’s husband, is always there in but the memory isn’t intrusive nor does Sarah languish because of it.  Jake is more of an issue with Hunter than anything.  Oh yes, Hunter is a childhood friend of Jake’s and let’s just say…he isn’t too happy when Sarah and Ethan get together at first.  I understood where he is coming from and his feelings are realistic.

Ethan, Ethan, Ethan.  Oh my…I really don’t know what to say about him except that he isn’t perfect and I can understand why at times he was wishy washy with Sarah.  Once you cross the line, there is no turning back.  Plus, I liked the added sidebar of his parent’s marriage and his serial dating and yes, it made sense.  In the end, though, he really did love Sarah with all of his heart.  Oh and we get a glimpse of his sister Wren, and I can’t wait to read her book.  ?

The journey for Sarah and Ethan is not easy.  I’ve never been more creeped out with the suspense element.  I’ve read it before but Ms. Beauman’s spin on it is breathtaking and creepy.  I love that in romantic suspense.  Kept me on my toes throughout.  The ending…dang, that’s just wrong.  He He!!!

Overall, I have found an author to stalk and read Hunter & Morgan’s story.  I realize that she has written 10 books in the series, so I have some catching up to do.

If you are looking for an edge of your seat romantic suspense with characters that are completely relatable and just plain lovable, read this book and series.  Plus, the villain is just plain AWESOME…creepy but well, you just need to read the book.

It's really 10!

Hailey’s Truth #3 Review:

Good lord.  I didn’t expect the level of HOTNESS that Austin and Haley had.  *fans self*  You meet Hailey and Austin in the first book.  I loved them in the book, so I had very high hopes when I started reading this one.  Unfortunately, at times it failed for me.

Hailey really, really needed a swift kick in the butt at times.  I get helping out your family, really I do.  But with her brother and mother, I would have never helped them at all.  Haley’s childhood was not pleasant and with that, I would have never helped them at all.  Also, she didn’t listen to Austin at times nor did she really take a look at herself in the mirror and realize that what he was saying was true.

Austin, however, is awesome.  I liked him book #2 and really getting to know him in this book was great.  Alpha but a softie when need be and he didn’t waver from that.  I also liked how he grew not only with Hailey but also in his job as a bodyguard.  At times, the Seal came out but when you are dealing with the Mexican Mafia…it’s worthy.

Oh yes, we are dealing with the Mexican Mafia in this book and the action/suspense was very well written.  Even though I could have cared less about Hailey’s brother, Jeremy, I did like how the suspense/action worked out in the end.

Overall, I liked the book but I felt like Hailey took a step back in her own book.  Austin….*major swoon*
