COMPROMISING MISS TISDALE

By

Jessica Jefferson

BLURB:

Ambrosia Tisdale is the very picture of propriety and the epitome of what a respectable young lady should be. Haunted by a memory and compelled by her family, she pursues perfection to a fault.

The Earl of Bristol, Duncan Maddox, has returned to London after years of familial imposed exile. As the second son, he has led a life filled with frivolity, leisure, and a healthy dose of debauchery. Now his older brother has died, leaving the family’s flailing legacy in Duncan’s unwilling arms.

At the behest of his uncle, Duncan is advised to do the one thing that could provide instant fortune and respectability – he must marry. But there is only one prospect who meets the unique requirements to solve all the Earl’s problems – the lovely Miss Ambrosia Tisdale. But securing the prudent daughter of a Viscount’s hand proves to be more challenging than this scandal ridden second son of an Earl has bargained for.

With scandal, extortion, treachery, and even love itself threatening to keep him from his goal, will Duncan succeed in compromising Miss Tisdale?

EXCERPT 4:

He stepped forward, a twig snapping under the force of his right boot.

She startled and turned.

She had been crying.  Even in the shadows he could see that her eyes were red and face blotchy from the trails of tears.  For once, Miss Tisdale did not look her best, and in that imperfection he found her to be the most enticing she had ever been.

Duncan fell into her eyes, endless pools framed with wet clumps of black lashes that drew him towards her.  And then her lips, already full, now swollen from her sobbing, parted slightly.

He was lost.  God help him, he was no longer intoxicated by brandy alone, but rather the beauty of one woman.

Duncan reached up and cupped her face in his hands.  Without any words or pretense, he simply swooped down and kissed her.  It wasn’t a gentle kiss, nor was it rough.  It was certain and decided.  He kissed her ardently, holding her face and savoring the salty taste of her tears still wet on her lips.

He waited for it to stop, for her to slap him or push him away.  But then she did something totally unexpected.  She grabbed his arms and kissed him back.  The action left him disarmed and completely infatuated.  This was the woman from the library whom he had come to remember.  And her kiss was not tentative as it once was – but now firm and without trepidation.

THE MYSTERIOUS JESSICA JEFFERSON – TOP 10 THINGS PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT ME

For the most part, I am a fairly open person.  I am jovial by nature and an optimist.  I love making people laugh, and I obviously suffer from middle-child syndrome (Look at me! Look at me!).  I am an open book, but maybe not the easiest to read at times.

  1. I hate hugs.  As a chubby, happy girl, the general opinion of the public is that I should love hugs.  I’m happy, I’m fluffy – perfect for squeezing.  But, seriously – don’t touch me.  I’m just not big into physical contact.  Massages make me squirm for all the wrong reasons.  Even with my husband – we rarely indulge in physical displays of affection and I still don’t think I’ve kissed him in front of my parents in all our twelve years of marriage.
  2. I’m not that into kids.  I like my own well enough, but I’m not volunteering at the school anytime soon.  I’ve never been baby crazy and there was actually time where I wasn’t even planning to procreate.  Perhaps it’s that chubby, happy persona that causes people to think that I should have worked in child care.  (Shutter).
  3. I listen to rock.  Some of my favorite bands have mosh pits at their concerts.  Sometimes – I even participate.
  4. I lie about my age.  It’s a vanity thing.  Thirty scared me, which is why I’m still twenty-nine.  I do all sorts of things to prevent getting older – except diet and exercise.  That’s just crazy.
  5. I’ve always loved romance novels.  Since I was an English major, the belief was that I preferred to cuddle up to a good Bronte novel on a rainy day.  But, it’s always been romance.  I used to steal books from my mother’s shelf – LaVyrle Spencer, Judith McNaught.  I read the classics because I had to – I read romance because I want to.
  6. I’m the worst sportsmen ever.  I love playing sports.  Golf, tennis, racquetball, bowling – great fun.  But I’m awful.  I have no natural ability whatsoever and I have no patience.  I generally get out there, try my hand at it, fail miserably, then give up and throw the racquet/club/ball.
  7. I’m a speech and debate dork. I did quite well in high school and actually went on to participate on Purdue’s speech team and compete at Nationals.  Most people get cold feet when speaking in public, I love it!  Even now – I volunteer to judge at high school competitions.  I like to think of myself as the Simon Cowell of the High School Speech and Debate circuit.  Crushing a young person’s dreams because I miss the achievements of my youth – yes, please.
  8. I spent an entire summer trying to lose weight when I was thirteen doing Sweating to the Oldies.  That’s just funny.
  9. I was the tool girl at Sears.  One of my jobs as a teenager was working in the tool department at Sears.  I was one of the few, few girls but knew enough about tools thanks to my father.
  10.  I camp.  I love the outdoors.  Hiking, canoeing, eating burnt food around a fire, and sleeping in on the cold, hard ground.  Ahhh.

Miss Tisdale MEDIA KIT COVER

Review:

I adored this book.  I will admit that I got away from reading historical romance for a while but I’m back into full throttle.  I have also admitted that I don’t “do” Regency  but when I read the blurb for this book, I was intrigued.  It had a thread of will they or won’t they in it and I was hooked.

Oh yes, Duncan was, on the surface, your normal rake.  Never had a care in the world; didn’t want the title but when it falls on him, he realizes that he needs a rich lady to help him out.  Finding Ambrosia should have been an easy thing for him to seduce but in the end the tables are turned.

This historical had it all for me.  A reformable rake, a great heroine (not TSTL), great secondary characters and a plot that moved along.  It’s not a fast paced story but the plot moves along at a pace that is very easy to read.  Yes, we have parties, balls and the normal plot devices that are in a Regency but Ms. Jefferson put a different spin on them and twisted them around.  What really sets it apart are Duncan and Ambrosia.

Ambrosia is in her fourth season.  Its embarrassing to her and while she has had offers, she is holding out for true love.  Meeting Duncan was not planned but set the tone for the rest of the book.  Ambrosia has met her match when Duncan keeps popping up every where she is.  I loved the interaction and dialogue  between them was great, too.

The smexy time (yes really only one 🙁 ) was extremely well done and showed their true emotions in not only the physical act of it but in them falling in love.  *sigh*  There was kissing and some second base action but again, it is well done and very appropriate for Duncan and Ambrosia.

If you are looking for a great historical romance that doesn’t weigh down the intimate facts of the ton and the somewhat boring details of the Regency period, then Compromising Miss Tidale is for you.  Personally, I can’t wait for Tasmin’s book which is next.  Tasmin was a trip.  🙂

Jessica Jefferson makes her home in northern Indiana, or as she likes to think of it – almost Chicago.  Jessica originally attended college in hopes of achieving an English degree and writing the next great American novel.  Ten years later she was working as a registered nurse and reading historical romance when she decided to give writing another go-round.

Jessica writes likes she speaks, which has a tendency to be fast paced and humorous.  Jessica is heavily inspired by sweeping, historical romance novels, but aims to take those key emotional elements and inject a fresh blend of quick dialogue and comedy to transport the reader into a story they miss long after the last page is read.  She invites you to visit her at jessicajefferson.com and read her random romance musings.

  2. Jessica, you are simply too funny! I am so glad you are bringing all your wit to the written page!

  3. Hi Jessica!

I loved your excerpt from Compromising Miss Tisdale and am going to your website a soon as I finish typing this to sign up for your newsletter so I can pre-order it as soon as it’s available to do so!

I loved all the information you shared and although I’ve finally lost the weight I gained (60 lbs.) after two back to back surgeries, being under-tall I can relate to your feelings on your size. At 65 I still have remarks made about my height – like people think I can change it by somehow stretching and make my self taller! Since I was in the 5th grade and realized that I would always be at the end of the line when the teacher would line us up by height (tall to short) I learned to love what I was not what was “popular”! It was when I was in High School that it finally paid off to be “tiny” and could go skiing and get in at “child” prices while everyone else had to pay a higher fee. From then on I learned to celebrate who I was not what everyone else thought was the “norm” and yes my husband is over 6′ tall and loves every inch of me even after all these years.

I love that you rejoice in who you are!

    1. Thank you so much for that. I think its important to share our stories – even when they’re less flattering than we’d like them to be. It’s a part of who I am, who all of us are. Why not celebrate it?
