LEGACY OF TRUTH

by Genie Gabriel

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Thomas O’Shea is the bad boy in a family of overachievers, haunted by what he saw as a child. When he turns to a woman known as The Wizard to help him solve the mystery of his adoptive father’s death, the killers start closing in. His childhood memories hold the key to saving his family–if they can uncover the truth buried beneath years of fear and deceit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Excerpt One:

Thomas stared at Jenny standing in the great room in a little slip of a dress. No jeans to hide her long, sexy legs. No cane to steady her balance.

Love and desire plowed into his belly. “Wow.”

She smiled at him uncertainly. “Is that a good wow or a bad wow?”

“Definitely a good wow.” Thomas stepped forward and took her hand. “Do you want your cane?”

With a shake of her head, Jenny said, “I’m walking unaided tonight.”

Thomas raised an eyebrow, and her spirited side burst out. “You don’t think I can do it?”

He grinned. “I think you can do anything you set your mind to.”

Her gaze narrowed on him, as if assessing whether he was teasing or not. “I may need an occasional hand from my escort.”

Thomas tucked her hand in the crook of his arm. “Any time.”

When they arrived at Waring House, a look of dismay crossed Jenny’s face when she stared at the broad, curving staircase. The one she would have to climb to reach the ballroom on the third floor.

“There’s an elevator,” Thomas whispered.

“I’m walking tonight.” A slight tremble vibrated in her words.

“Save your energy for dancing.” Thomas swept Jenny into his arms and carried her up the stairs.

A squeak of protest slid out of her throat before she quieted. Not the first time he had carried her slight frame, but the first time since he realized she was The One.

Review:

I will admit that I’m just now getting into this series but I will be going back and gobbling up the other books in the series.  I love a good mystery mixed with suspense.  Now, I will also say that this book isn’t romance heavy.  It has romantic elements in it but don’t expect that there will be a hot and heavy romance woven in.

Let me explain…the hero, Thomas is adopted but seeks out The Wizard aka Jenny (heroine) for help in figuring out his father’s death.  Most of the romance is at the beginning of the book before the real mystery/suspense happens.  Trust me on this, I appreciate that the author spent time building their relationship first.  It added to the sweetness and protectiveness of Thomas towards Jenny in the end.  Plus, once the mystery/suspense starts to unfold, the pacing is extremely quick and there is no room for the romance.

The mystery/suspense element in the book is fantastic.  It was a little hard to keep up in the beginning but I quickly caught on.  Most of this was due to the fact that I hadn’t read the other books and got to the know the characters but I was quickly introduced to them and it all made perfect sense.  Yes, I can be dense sometimes.  🙂

This book deals with more deceit, cover ups, and OMG, the whole plot centers around something so cruel that I couldn’t wait for the bad guys to be brought to justice.  Think of something that is so prevalent in our society today (baby rings) and you have the basis for the mystery surrounding this entire family.  Great job from Ms. Gabriel blending everyone’s story into the climax of the book.  I cheered for everyone and held my breath.

If you are looking for a great mystery/suspense with romantic elements, definitely pick this one up.  It will keep you on the edge of seat trying to figure out how it will all play out in the end.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

For years I’ve been fascinated by the puzzle of why some people collapse under life’s traumas and others emerge triumphantly stronger. These triumphs of the human spirit over the ugliest of adversities became the basis for my stories. Yet my dramatic stories have always contained touches of humor, and sometimes I have great fun writing romantic comedy novellas. However, in all my stories, my passion for writing romance is an outlet for the powerful messages that people can overcome great difficulties, and true love can turn life’s heartaches into happily ever after.

  1. It seems that Legacy of Truth can be a stand alone reading, but I want to start the series from the first – I’m hooked 🙂

  2. Another great story in this series! I’m pumped!

    When our kids were 5 and 2, we lived in backwoods Alaska and bought motorcycles for off-road riding. We never went over 25mph even on the few miles of paved road in the area. When I was new to riding, I spilled the bike in slo-mo by failing to brake fast enough. I hit the side of the fire house going all of 2 mph. My plucky five-year-old daughter leapt off the bike when it started to lean. No one got hurt.

    1. Aw, thanks, Sarah! LOL about your motorcycle story! At least the fire house was there to stop you. My grandkids love off-road riding and are always urging whoever is the driver to “go faster”!

  3. Reading the review I can see that there is a lot going on. Very exciting.

  4. Well, it’s after midnight in my chilly corner of the world–wonder what happened to spring? But I’m safe and warmly snuggled in a quilt and my house is still standing. So I have much to be grateful for, including spending part of my day with all of you!

    Before I call it a night, I want to once again thank Harlie for hosting me today and taking the time to read and review LEGACY OF TRUTH. I very much appreciate you!

  9. I love anything you write, and this review would indicate that I am not the only one. Great review.

  10. Congratulations on a great review. Of course I have read and love all of Genie’s books.

  11. I’m baaack! Here’s a discussion question if you’d like to play along…Have you ever ridden a motorcycle? Please share your favorite story related to motorcycles.

    My story isn’t very exciting, but I learned to ride a motorcycle when I was in my early teens. My parents had property and room to ride so we weren’t out on public roads. My brothers said it was just like riding a bicycle. Um, with a motor! I had to get used to giving it gas–but not too much–and when to shift. It really didn’t take long to learn, but I still preferred riding horses. 🙂

    How about you? Were you bitten by the gotta-have-a-motorcycle bug? I’m looking forward to visiting with you!

    1. I didn’t ride a motorcycle but I rode on the back of a “dirt bike” in the country with my brother in law and it was “awful”…seriously hard on my behind and I was afraid of getting the bugs in the teeth thing…lol…some day I would like to ride a harley on pavement (my other sister has one and someday I’ll ride on it with her)

      1. LOL, Maria! I’m envisioning a wild and crazy ride at high speed over rugged terrain, jumping over logs and ducking under tree branches on the dirt bike. No wonder that wasn’t fun for you! Cruising on a bigger bike is much different. Hope you take a ride with your sister soon so you have a positive motorcycle experience. 🙂

  12. Good morning, all! Some of you may know I don’t do mornings well. 🙂 But one of my dogs insisted I get up and pretend I’m awake. Yes, you early risers can laugh, but most of the time midnight comes and goes and I’m still up and busy! Yawns aside, it’s great to start my day with Harlie and all of you!

    It’s also wonderful to see such a warm review from Harlie. So glad you enjoyed LEGACY OF TRUTH!

  13. You’ve got a way with your words in this review! I’m glad I read it 🙂 I too haven’t read the first books in the series, (But I’m getting the first one asap!) i usually can’t start a series in the middle but it seems like it wasn’t much of a problem for you!

    1. Hi, Andra! I usually read series of books out of order–not intentionally! LOL! I find one that intrigues me and look for the others. Hope you enjoy them!

  14. Thanks for the excerpt and the spotlight on this book -Genie Gabriel is a new to me author and like you I will have to pick up the backlist on this series – it sounds like a mystery series I would like,. Thanks for the giveaway.

    junegirl63 at gmail dot com

    1. Hi, Maria! I hope you read the entire series. 🙂 The mystery starts in book #1 (of course!) and deepens with each book of the series. Just when the heroes and heroines think they have the bad guy…
