Tall, dark, and lethal…

Trouble just walked into Nicholas Rixey’s tattoo parlor. Becca Merritt is warm, sexy, wholesome–pure temptation to a very jaded Nick. He’s left his military life behind to become co-owner of Hard Ink Tattoo, but Becca is his ex-commander’s daughter. Loyalty won’t let him turn her away. Lust has plenty to do with it too.

With her brother presumed kidnapped, Becca needs Nick. She just wasn’t expecting to want him so much. As their investigation turns into all-out war with an organized crime ring, only Nick can protect her. And only Becca can heal the scars no one else sees.

Desire is the easy part. Love is as hard as it gets. Good thing Nick is always up for a challenge…

Review:

Boy am I reading a lot of romantic suspense lately.  I love the genre so its easy peasy for me.  One thing though…I don’t think I’ve ever read about a tattoo parlor run by ex-military men.  This is a new one for Harlie and I dug right in there.

Let me preface this review with that this isn’t my first book by Ms. Kaye, nor will be my last.  Forever Freed and Hearts of Darkness are my favorites of hers.  That said, I was excited when I found out that she was starting a romantic suspense series dealing with ex-military men that were dishonorably discharged.  For me, I like that aspect if the book.  Another great thing is the relationships that the men have with one another.  Its not forced and in some ways sad.  They’ve been wrongly accused of crimes that they didn’t do and now are trying to clear their names.

Then throw in that fact that Nick is attracted to his ex-CO’s daughter, Becca and that makes for great sexual and emotional tension throughout the book.  Plus, Nick’s got secrets that play a huge part in the book that she is keeping from Becca and dang are they good ones.  For once, I wasn’t upset about someone harboring secrets.  It made sense to me and made for more intense drama.

The book is intense, action packed and I got whiplash with all the different twists and turns.  I know that some people will shake their head at some of the situations that Nick and Becca get into but be patient.  Ms. Kaye writes a story that has purpose and meaning.  She doesn’t write fluff and Hard As It Gets isn’t fluff.  Its the beginning of a great series and the main story arc will be played out in the other books.  Again…Harlie likes that in romantic suspense.  I like my h/h to get their HEA but regarding the main story arc…I’m always greedy and want more.  Ms. Kaye has left too many questions and I’ll be the first one in line to pick up the next book in the series to see if I get any of them answered.

Run, don’t walk to get Ms. Kaye’s latest.  You won’t be disappointed.  And just think, its almost December and the second book will be out in February 2014.  See almost no waiting.  😉
