Dead Hunter (Dead Series) by Lizzie T. Leaf Review

BLURB:

Finally a guy who makes her hot and chilly…is he a vampire or has sex messed with her hunter sensors.

ArieAnne Hews is a trained vampire hunter out for the kill. A chance meeting with the hated beings has Arie in turmoil…these seem normal. Then enters handsome Dr. Jonas Nickels and things get really complicated.

Jonas Nickels has no desire to be involved with a mortal, but can’t resist the dark-eyed beauty. Even if he is on her hit list!

Family secrets tinged with evil make an impossible path for star-crossed lovers.

Review:

Where do I start? Loved, loved, loved Arie and Jonas’ story. Again, Lizzie has done it again with her humor, dialogue, twists and turns on characters that are genuiune, people that I would like to know and hang out with. Dead Hunter is the story of a vampire hunter that falls in love with a vampire. Fairly common paranormal troupe right? In fact, I though of Buffy the Vampire Slayer when I first met Arie. Funny thing about the fairly common paranormal troupe…Lizzie puts a complete different spin on it and throws Demons in the mix.

Arie reminded me of a grown up Buffy. She is still a bad ass in the hunting department but yearns for a man to make her toes curl…someone to fall in love with. Did she think that she would fall for a vampire? Nope, she was trained to kill them, not love them. When she meets Dovey and BJ at the park, little did she know that one event would set off a series of events that would change her life forever. Arie is a well written character. I felt her confusion when she is confronted with the truth about her new friends. Her horror sent shivers up my spine when she saw her life as she knew it crumble around her. She was sympathic but strong.

Jonas was the hero that I love in romance books. Sexy, a doctor (I’m a sucker, so sue me) and a vampire with a moral compass. Just because he “undead” doesn’t make him sparkly, mean or on a path of vengence. He’s the good guy that is there for his friends and Arie when they need him. Okay, plus the girlie bits tingled too. 🙂 The author made him human for me on a scale that most paranormal writers don’t do for me. His wit and able to difuse a situation, no matter how uncomfortable are a great edition to the story.

The final confrontation is thrilling. I wasn’t sure if I was going to cry for Arie and want to hug her or come out swinging. Let’s just say that Satan makes an appearance and with a line of dialogue, he made the situation plausible and in some ways…comforting.

I strongly suggest that you pick this series up and read it. Devour it and discuss amongst your friends. Word of caution…these books can be read as stand alones but I would read them in order. You get a much better feel for the characters and how they interact with each other and the situations around them.
