BLURB:

After being burned pretty badly by two different women in his past, Brian Vellinger has sworn off romance. Commitment-shy for the past fifteen years, he is stunned by his sudden attraction to a woman he’s not seen since the last day of their senior year.

Natalie Collier thinks she’s successfully put Brian Vellinger out of her mind. After harboring a secret crush all through high school and into college, she is both alarmed and thrilled when Brian makes his intentions known at their 25th class reunion. But will she succeed in softening his casual, ‘sex only’ policy, or will she end up just another notch on his belt?

Excerpt One:

“Brian, how are you?”  A young woman walked up to him, carrying a wine glass.

“Natalie Collier.  Oh my God.”  Brian smiled and held out his arm to hug her.  “How long has it been?  You weren’t at the tenth.”

She shook her head, strands of her dark blonde hair catching on the stiff collar of her blouse.  “No, I couldn’t make it home for that one.  And no one organized a twentieth, so I made sure I was free for this one.”  She sipped her red wine and looked around.  “What’s this I hear about you and Tracy being divorced?”

Brian showed her his left hand.  “She left me with no warning.  She was tired of my long hours and took up with a guy she met at a coffee shop.”

Natalie’s dark blue eyes widened.  “No.”  She gasped.  “You two looked so happy together!  Did you have any kids?”

“No.”  Brian sipped his beer.  “So what are you doing now?”

“I’m a pharmacist at our local hospital.  I’ve been offered a position with a national chain, but I’m still weighing my options.”

“Pharmacy?  I thought for sure you were headed for law school, as much as we argued our senior year.”

“No; you whipped my ass on the debate team that one time we ended up on opposite sides.  That showed me you were better in front of people than I was.  I could tackle you one-on-one, but not in front of an audience.”  She took another drink of her wine.  “I hear you’re in finance?”

Review:

I love Kenzie’s books but damn she makes me feel old sometimes.  Maybe it’s because we are the same age and I can totally relate to her characters, places and pop culture that she writes in her stories.  🙂  Love you Kenzie!

In true Kenzie form, she brings the dreaded class reunion to the forefront in her latest offering.  This one starts off being the all important 25th class reunion.  Most people are married, have children, divorced and yes, even died.  You are typically more mature, have sown the wild oats and know who and what you are as a person.  At least you hope.

Imagine, going back single and the one person that you can’t forget is single and offering a weekend of no strings sex?  What would you do?  You get the premise and its a doozy because Natalie is willing but she has her own set of ground rules, to.

I liked Natalie from the start.  Yes, she’s sweet but she’s a no bullshit kind of lady, too.  She can see right through Brian but that’s okay.  She wants the weekend because she goes back home to Idaho and then on to her new job.  Brian is completely entrenched with his life in their hometown and is there for the long haul.  She would like more but it’s just not going to happen.

I appreciated the fact that Brian did have someone to scratch his itch every couple of weeks.  I know, its sounds bad but the way that Kenzie wrote it, it won’t make you throw your Kindle/Nook.  It makes sense and in the end, he knows its wrong for both of them.  Natalie had her own guy back home that she tried to rid but he wouldn’t take no for an answer.

Kenzie writes stories for us “older” folks that are completely relatable and realistic.  One of her other books, Teacher’s Pet is the perfect “older” couple dealing with the ups and down of dating, sex and making it work.  I suggest that you pick Class Reunion and Teacher’s Pet for a realistic view of how heroes and heroines can be written and not made cringe worthy.  Kenzie doesn’t disappoint in her portrayal of Brian and Natalie.

It’s a sweet, sexy story of going back home and finding your true love that has been sitting under your nose the whole time.

  1. *head slap* Just realized all of my comments on here are ‘Molly’ instead of ‘Kenzie’!! That’s what happens when you forget to log in as your alter-ego….Sorry for any confusion!

  2. Intriguing…..25 year Class Reunion brought back highschool memories feelings rushing back after all these years!!! I think it happens to more than care to admit. I can’t wait to read this book. And to have it written by a former classmate of mine…I am even more intrigued to see if I can put together who this is about. Looking forward to it!!!

    1. LOL Barley….I hope I disguised enough of the details from the ‘suggestions’ thrown at me from both reunions I attended in 2009! What’s your name? Or send it to me at storimom2@aol.com if you don’t want to come clean on here:)

  3. Yeah…I’m older too….lol…seems to be the theme here…..Thanks for the spotlight and review on Kenzie’s book…I’ll have to give it a try

    1. Thank you Maria:) I wrote this with two particular classmates in mind; plus when I attended my 25th, alcohol loosened a few tongues and soon I was hearing secrets, anecdotes, and ‘hey, this would make a great story for your next book…” I took some of the ideas and hope I’ve fictionalized them enough in this book so that no one knows what was real and what came out of my brain, ha ha!

  4. I am definitely one of those “older folks” too, Harlie! How come in my fantasies I’m always younger…or the fella is always younger?? LOL. I have a copy of Class Reunion and look forward to reading it soon.

    1. LOL….I’m still 23 trapped inside a 47 y/o body:) That’s my story and I’m sticking with it! I’ve had a few ‘couger’ moments when I see a hot guy and realize, ‘Holy hell, he’s the same age as my OLDEST son! Yikes!’

Good to ‘see’ you again Catherine!

  5. Awwww Harlie….I love you!!!! Didn’t mean to make you feel ‘old’; we share a love of 80’s Hair Bands, so just want to remind people about GOOD music, that’s still around today, just on the-you know- ‘oldies’ station? Remember that song that came out a few years ago….”When did Motley Crew become Classic Rock?” Sigh….Or remember George Michael when he was part of Wham? Yeah….not everyone does.

Thank you for being the ‘icing’ on my review week ‘cake’! I print out all of my reviews, and this is another one I’ll point out with pride:)

    XOXOXO

PS: I hope you enjoy Off The Clock also when it releases later this month or next!
