Excerpt (PG-13 for language)

“What’s a girl like you doing at a bar like this?” he asked.

Her voice was a purr, like a cat well satisfied with its stolen pitcher of cream. “I’m looking for someone special.”

Hoping that she meant him he asked, “Did you find him yet?”

“Maybe.” The glint in her eye told him he was definitely in the running.  However, I’m not looking to hook up with just any old cowboy.  He must be able to go the full eight seconds and come back for more.”  She eyed him from head to toe.  “Think you can handle that?”

Oh, I can most definitely handle you sweetheart.

Not wanting to seem too eager he replied, “I’m not sure but I’m willing to try.”

“Do or do not.  There is no try.”  He struggled not to let his grin escape.  The fact that she was trying to seduce him made his dick twitch.

“Let’s just say I’m looking to burn off some pent up frustration. A little excess energy.  And I’ve got plenty to burn.”

The way she shivered at his words, he knew he almost had her.  He winked as she licked her crimson lips and blew out a small breath.  Damn what this woman is doing to him.

He pushed her knees apart with his left leg and was rewarded with the amazing scent of her arousal.  The knowledge she was wet for him had him close to going off in his jeans.

Houston, we have lift-off!

“Why don’t you have a seat cowboy and we’ll talk about it.”

She gasped when he shocked her with a brush of his lips against hers; fighting with everything he had not to deepen the kiss.

Patience, patience.

He would play her game for the moment but sooner or later, she would be his.  Tied up and begging for more.

He asked her, “Now about that eight second ride?”

Guest Post by Jocelyn Adams featuring Stone Cold (An Ironhill Jinn Novel) w/a rafflecopter giveaway

Stone Coldbanner

Title: Stone Cold (Ironhill Jinn #2)

Author: Jocelyn Adams

Genre: PNR, Urban Fantasy

Release Date: April 11th, 2014

Not all monsters can be tamed.

Lou Hudson makes a deal with the Isaac to save the Ironhill jinn from execution…and lands on the front line of a war between the vampire and his sire.

Daddy Dearest intends to have Lou for himself to spite Isaac and begins meddling in every corner of her life. He

In the serenity of the Colorado night, without distraction, I noticed a scent surrounding Isaac I’d either ignored or hadn’t noticed before. Mineral hints of snow in chilled night air, and beneath it, the dewy scent of the earth in autumn. It drew up thoughts of Mum and the better times we’d spent together. My mind quieted further.

“Are you afraid?” Isaac asked, once again the guarded, regal lord. “Your terror should be painting the wind in shades of bitterness, but I scent nothing but your vanilla-tinged contentment.”

I thought for a moment before answering, watching a hawk sail across the last splashes of pink. “No, I don’t think I am. Is it strange that I find comfort in the scent of my executioner? That it plunges me into my most pleasant memories during my life?” I smiled. “I’ve never believed in God, but perhaps he exists after all and has granted me this small mercy at the end of all things.”

A rustle of fabric came to my ears as he shifted closer. “What do I smell like?”

Encouraged by his interest, I rolled his scent on my tongue, through the halls of my memory. “Frost-coated leaves on the forest floor in autumn when the earth is damp yet not frozen, and the wind has that first crisp hint of winter.” I’d always wondered why prisons would send a priest to the condemned, seeing no point in confessing anything, but I had a sudden understanding of how unburdening just having someone to listen could be.

I decided to share the memory. “Mum forbade me from using my abilities when I was young and we lived in England. Never let them see your strangeness, Lou-Lou Bean, she’d say. My jinn magic would build up and become almost blinding, and the longing was worse than starving. She finally gave in to my begging and took me up north to a small forest when I was three.”

My smile grew, and I let out a small laugh, remembering. “The first thing I did when she set me free was to drop to my knees and dig my fingers into the earth.” I stretched my hand out, almost feeling the cool soil squish against my palms. “It was late October like it is now. I had to shove away the leaves, inhaling the earthy scent of my element. The instant the rock called out to me and I could actually connect with it was like I’d been breathing with one lung all my life and could suddenly take in a full breath.”

I tried to shake off Mum’s reaction to it all back then, but it wouldn’t leave me, sucking the remembered joy out of me. “Mum always turned her back while I changed to stone. She didn’t like to see my strangeness, as if it would somehow drive the hurt deeper, that my father had cursed her with a condemned abomination for a daughter. She lived her entire life looking over her shoulder because of me.”

A tug came on my braid. I imagined Isaac running his fingers along the length of it, and that, too, was a strange sort of comfort coming from the last source I expected it from. I’m here, I heard in the act. I’m listeningr reputation shatters when people die, her monster-whispering skills shelved by public outcry and vampire politics.

When forced to confront their enemy, she isn’t prepared for the depth of Isaac’s plotting—or her increasing attraction to him—and to end their latest crisis will only cost Lou a piece of her soul.

I’ve recently had a taste of what it’s like to play with the big girls in the publishing world. I signed a 3-book deal with an awesome publisher. Wahoo, right? I worked madly on the most extensive edits I’d ever done, and with a couple of stressful months behind me, the story shined. Whew, what a lot of work, but so worth it in the end.

I think I had maybe two days of relaxing before I got some news. The publisher wanted book 2 in four months’ time so we could release the book within 6 months of the first one.

Enter the sound of screeching tires here. OMG, seriously?

Okay, so I’ve written a 100,000 word novel in six weeks before, but that was a book 1 of a series. The last book 2 I’d written took me a year because there’s so much that has to go on, like recapping book 1, developing the story in book 2, and setting up for book 3. I usually need at least a couple of months stewing time after the first draft before I can edit it properly.

In my mind, I heard myself think: I can’t do this. Nope, no way, nu-uh. I was a professional now, and I had a real, honest-to-goodness deadline. So, I got to work, writing madly in every second of spare time, which wasn’t a lot with my full time job and family that have to come first.

It was the most complicated, intense story I’ve ever written, dealing with memory loss, multiple realities, and some in-depth history that had to unfold. Often I’d get awesome ideas AFTER I’d already written scenes, having to rip them out and start over. The ending just wouldn’t come to me.

The deadline loomed nearer. My mind started to shut down, and the more words I spilled out, the more of a train wreck the story became. I just couldn’t see where I was going anymore, and it was no longer fun. I wasn’t sure what to do, and the stress level started to weigh heavily on my mind and body.

Four days before the novel was due at my editor, I finally had to admit defeat and ask for an extension, something I’ve never had to do before.

With a brief email to my editor, something miraculous happened. The simple act of taking away the deadline opened the floodgates of my mind, and with the help of my beta readers, I could suddenly see the story from beginning to end with crystal clarity. All of the issues that stumped me had neat solutions.

I finished the book over the weekend and sent it in on time. Holy cow, I really did it.

The mind is such a strange and wonderful beast. There are days when I wish I understood it better, and other days, I love the mystery of it. Here’s hoping I can bend it into submission to get book 3 finished by September. J

Savage Smoke – Book 2 Lycan International Investigation Agency Series
Genre: Erotic Paranormal Romance
Sizzling HOT! Warning: Lots of two-somes, three-somes, even more-somes, like it stimulating, arousing, and positively natural…or supernatural.

Tagline: Will Trevor rescue Lindsey in time to save her from shifting into Smoke’s pack, and will she even want saved?

Chance and his LIIA pack of agents search for rogue Lycan mastermind, Smoke, kidnapper of Lindsey and fifteen other human women he plans to use for procreating his own army.
Trevor, Chance’s right-hand Lycan, wants his mate back, but believes she’s fallen for her captor. Lindsey loves Trevor but believes he’s given up on her.

Will Trevor come around in time to rescue Lindsey and save her from shifting into Smoke’s pack, and will she even want back with Trevor after spending so long apart?

***Released in June, 2013***

Short Excerpt:

So far, Smoke didn’t share Lindsey with other males, but she was aware of the orgies inside the central building. She heard a few women talk of them. Some even liked them, being surrounded by hard-bodied men hung like rocket launchers. Those women went at it without the use of the stimulation drug Smoke used on everyone else.

She was used to the little needle pricks and welcomed them. It made acting the part with Smoke so much easier, believing in her heart Trevor made love to her, but guarding that fact from Smoke by holding Trevor’s name in the secret place, locked safely away.

Lindsey understood some of the sexual attraction. She had that once, but she couldn’t go there in her mind. Smoke searched her thoughts almost daily and always found if she’d tapped into any memory nuggets of people she loved. He possessed psychic abilities others didn’t. Already, the thoughts of Trevor that had emerged she’d need to bury before Smoke returned.

If an orgy ensued during their pack meeting, Smoke would be preoccupied for a good while. She reached her arm underneath the mattress, where a few weeks ago she saw Smoke slide his journal. Lindsey had fallen asleep with her back to the fireplace. A crack of thunder wakened her in time to witness Smoke closing a journal and placing it beneath the mattress they shared.

Lindsey touched its leather cover, wrapped her fingers around it, and hauled it out.

I want to preface this review with a few facts about Harlie’s hard limits in reading erotic romance.

1.  I don’t do orgies.  Three is enough for me.

2. I have issues when drugs are involved.  Lived that with my younger brother when he was a teenager.

3.  I don’t like the heroine or hero sleeping with someone else.

Okay, now that you know some of my hard limits on with the review.

I will have to say that Ms. Royal has written a fascinating book on the Lycans.  I was drawn into the story from the start and no, I haven’t read the first book in the series.  I loved Chase so I’m going to read his story very soon.

For me, this book is hard to review.  On one hand, I loved it.  It was fast paced, heart stopping and the action was awesome.  I like Lindsey and Trevor.  They had great chemistry together and I completely understood the pull that they had for each other.  I also liked the fact that Trevor and his pack were a very close knit group.  Even Lindsey having to deal with Smoke, I understood…somewhat.  Plus, Ms. Royal can write a book.  This isn’t my first book by her and I will definitely read more.

My biggest issue with the book is Smoke.  He has got to be one of the most vile characters that I’ve ever read.  There is nothing redeeming about him.  Nothing.  He uses drugs to have make women have sex with him and his pack.  That’s were I drew the line.  I skipped over those parts of the book.  I don’t do orgies, drugs or having anything to do with drugged out sex.  I realize that’s part of the story and the chief motivation to get Lindsey and Trevor together but it made me very uncomfortable.  Unfortunately, what Smoke does in the paranormal world holds true in the real world.

I’m not going to discourage you to NOT read this book.  Other than the drugged out orgies and subject matter regarding Smoke, the book is excellent.  Ms. Royal has built a world that is engaging, fascinating and gripping.  I’ve never read a shifter world like this and its good.  Her characters are vile when needed, loving and caring towards each other and the brotherhood of the pack is awesome.  My only issue was the amount of sex that is written in the book.  I do look forward to the third book in this series because I have to find out if they can stop Smoke.

Savage Smoke Final Button

Kay Dee Royal Guest Post – Lycan, Vampire, Kodiac-were, and what next?

Hello everyone;) Thanks so much for having me at your place today 🙂 I appreciate you for letting me share a bit about Savage Smoke and the beings who roam the pages…

Lycan, Vampire, Kodiac-were, and what next?

So, if you’ve read the first book in the Lycan International Investigation Agency series (Staring Into the Eyes of Chance) you have met Chance Grayton’s pack of werewolves or Lycan who shift into wolves;) You’re familiar with Chance, the Alpha, and his usual wolf-shifter abilities like boosted strength, enhanced senses, running like the wind, jumping almost as high as two men, the heightened sexual appetite, plus talking within the pack telepathically. He deals with another gift…premonitions, which he considers more of a curse than an ability;)

Olivia, his primal-mate, possesses an extra sensitive psyche ability for reading any wildlife/animals and it comes in pretty handy when dealing with Chance’s pack or any being outside the pack.

Smoke, the rogue wolf-shifter, carries an extra psychic ability to read minds, and it comes in pretty handy with him being the villain of the series.

There’s more to Chance’s pack than what I’ve given you here…but I wanted to move on to the new species introduced in Book 2 – Savage Smoke.

You’ll meet a female half-breed (half Lycan wolf and half vampire). Both species have shunned her off-and-on throughout her life. And bigger yet, no one can mark her after mating…she’s more like a black widow in that respect.

There’s much more to the story of a sensual female vampire…she’s got an insatiable thirst for werewolf blood, the same blood that would normally kill a vampire if ingested. She rocks somebody’s world…until?

And, my favorite new Lycan species…a couple male Kodiak-weres – yes, gentle giants who’d rather make love than war…it’s their unique tools (body parts) and pheromones they scatter helter-skelter. They always draw a sexually stimulated crowd. Talk about ‘love-ins’ – Whew…this species can outperform any beings’ stamina.

I’ve already got some other Lycan beings cooking inside my boiling pot of a mind…and they’ll be making a grand entrance in Book 3 – Smoke -n- Bliss.

What kind of Shifter would you want me to introduce (not including those mentioned here)?

Kay Dee
