WATCH OVER by Amy Reece
The DeLuca Family #1

Melanie Blythe has a house, a career, and a cat. She doesn’t need a man.

But she isn’t the only one who’s noticed the gorgeous cop down the street. When her faithless cat prances home from the cop’s house with a note tucked in his collar, it might be the beginning of something beautiful…or it might be Melanie’s death warrant.

Detective Finn DeLuca is stuck at home recovering from a hit-and-run accident, and has plenty of time to wonder about the woman two doors down. There’s something mysterious about the beautiful brunette, and he’s determined to get to know her.

But someone else has other plans.

As the two grow closer, someone is watching—and waiting. Sooner or later, their chance will come.

And the two lovebirds will never see it coming.

 Of all the stories about the family, this one is the cutest.  CJ, the cat, is just too much in the book.  I loved, just loved the notes that passed between Finn and Mel in the beginning.  It’s how they kinda got to know each.  Plus, there is Fluff, the dog.
I really enjoyed watching their relationship blossom.  Mel has some issues to overcome like self-image, having a true relationship with a man, sexual feelings and then being overwhelmed by Finn’s family.  She’s never really lived up until she meets Finn.  Mel is the one person in the book that had the most character growth to achieve.  Ms. Reece wrote her beautifully in that sense.  You get to watch her get out of her shell and live a little.  Plus, it helps that Finn’s sister, Cara (LOVE HER, LOVE HER) is right there to help.
Finn is a dream.  He’s not as heavy-handed as Hugh but protects what’s his.  Mel is his and he won’t let anyone stand in his way.  I especially liked how we met him.  He’s had a string of bad luck but he is not one to dwell on it.  He picks himself up and works through it.  His relationship with his partner Chris is great, too.  His family is hilarious.  Loving, honest and funny but at times can be overwhelming to anyone, not just Mel.
I NEVER saw the suspense element coming.  When all is revealed, I was shocked.  I kinda had an idea but I just couldn’t figure out the “why”.  I love when an author does that to me.  Bravo, Ms. Reece.

 OH.MY.GOSH!  This book.  It has all the feels for me.  Strong heroine, strong hero.  Great plot and a bit sexier than the rest.  In fact, I will admit that Hugh and Chris are my favorite couple so far in the series.  Sure, sure, I liked the others but there is just something about this couple that had me from the get-go.  I liked the dancing around that they did in the beginning with the does she like me/does he like me.  I know, it sounds a bit junior highish but trust me, it’s great.
These two have met previously as Chris or Chrissy as Hugh calls her, is Finn’s partner.  I liked her in the first book and LOVED her in the second.  She’s strong, stubborn and will not take Hugh’s heavy-handedness or over protectiveness in stride.  She fights for her job and also her love for Hugh.  Sometimes, I just had to giggle when it came to her getting all copish on Hugh, too.  Another thing is how she gets along with the girls in the book.  There is a true friendship with Izzy, Cara, and Mel.
Hugh is just terrific in the book.  He loves Chris to distraction and he’s oldest sibling protectiveness gets in the way of their relationship.  But that makes Hugh who he is.  Once he finally figures out that Chris needs a partner in life, not a protector its perfection.  It takes him awhile but he finally gets there.  And let’s not forget that he uses his dog, Bob in his wooing of Chris.
The suspense element in the book is great, too.  We really get to see the partnership between Finn and Chris grow.  Plus, she’s just a bad**s!
Do yourself a favor and pick up this book.  You won’t be disappointed.

What a tangled web we weave.  I loved this story.  The thread about Janey’s paternity and Izzy’s reluctance to reveal who it was is great.  Mac is a guy to die for.  Really he is.  And Izzy?  I really felt for her in the end.  Such a strong woman and raising a child on her own.  How these two reconnected is awesome!!!!  I mean, in a mall of all places.   I would have freaked out but Izzy didn’t.  Oh no, not our Izzy.
Izzy is the sister that is a mystery up until this book.  I like how Ms. Reece kept her a bit of secret until now.  Izzy is subtle in the other books, but she is so much more here.  Her dynamic with Hugh in the business is at times humorous but also strong.  They play off each other perfectly.  Ms. Reece also does a great job with letting us know how Izzy feels about being a single mother.  It’s hard.  At times, frustrating but Izzy will do anything for Janey.
Mac just cracks me up at times.  The second chance at love trope here is perfection.  Ms. Reece does a very nice job of getting them together early but uses some real-life obstacles to get in their way of true happiness.  It’s real life.  Getting to know a person again.  Finding out you’re a father and balancing a new career while wooing the woman that you love.  Ms. Reece does an excellent job of weaving it all together.
The suspense element is great in the book.  You get Finn, Chris, and Mac working together and at times, it has its problems.  Finn isn’t too thrilled with Mac being in Janey and Izzy’s life and it spills over to the job at hand.  I get that and we see Chris getting them to play nice in the end.
I would be remiss not to mention the DeLuca family has a whole.  I LOVE this family.  Every last one of them.  If I had to pick, Cara is my favorite and we don’t even have her book yet.  She’s a teacher, strong, very opinionated but I sense a vulnerability there that I hope Ms. Reece explores.  She’s been burned before in love and I don’t think she has quite gotten over it.
Don’t miss this series.  I will be the first one to pre-order the next book when it comes out.  You should, too.
The whole series. Trust me.

Title: The Evolution of Us
Author: D. Kelly
Genre: New Adult
Release Date: October 11, 2017

Blurb
They say most people meet the person they will marry while in high school. Balancing one another perfectly, Holly Ryan and Declan James were together through most of
college—until their relationship blew up, leaving Declan with more questions than answers.
For the past two years, Declan has tried everything he can think of to earn Holly’s forgiveness, but even if he manages to help her let go of the past and give them another chance at happiness, she still has a secret. Not to mention, she can’t get over the revolving door of women he seems to have coming in and out of his apartment.
Declan is desperate to prove to Holly she’s the one for him and isn’t above using his celebrity status or enlisting the help of their friends to win her back. All’s fair in love and war, right?

As you know, I’m pretty picky when it comes to New Adult but I wanted to give this author a chance.  I glad that I did.  I really liked this book.  Sure, sure, second chance romance in New Adult is pretty typical but Ms. Kelly gives it a fresh spin.  What I mean by that is that there isn’t much angst.  Which I hate.  The book is told in the past and the present.  You get the whole story.  A fresh idea, I know.  Especially in New Adult.

These two, Declan and Holly are meant to be together…forever.  Too bad no one told Holly that.  Having known each other since they were 14 and to their breakup, their journey to being back together is great.  I liked how Declan really stepped it up in his pursuit of Holly once again.  It’s not like she made him work for it but she is one stubborn lady.  In that sense, I really wanted to scream at her.  She still loved the guy but wouldn’t see past the miscommunication that broke them up in the first place.

Declan is hilarious.  And frustrating.  Having his friends help him win Holly back is good but I could have used a little less of it.  It made him seem weak at times.  But the pursuit…I loved it in the end.  He’s not the perfect boyfriend but he’s still perfect for Holly.  One of the big things in this book that I LOVED is the character growth that Holly and Declan go through.  I know, it doesn’t happen too often in the genre but Ms. Kelly makes it work and swoon-worthy in the end.

Overall, I really liked Holly and Declan.  Sage and Baxter are a hoot.  Trust me on this one.  Secondary characters that actually enhance the story, not bring it down.  This is a stand-alone, too.  Even if you don’t read New Adult, you would like this one.  Swoon-worthy in the end and the angst is left at the door.

#Review of The Christmas Wedding Swap (a Pineville Romance) by Allyson Charles w/a rafflecopter giveaway! @1allysoncharles #contemporaryromance #giveaway #bookreview

THE CHRISTMAS WEDDING SWAP

by Allyson Charles

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Small Town Contemporary Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

SOMETIMES YOU GET WHAT YOU NEED . . .

Allison Stuart has always been the odd-woman-out of her family. She wears her jeans a little too tight, colors her hair a little too blonde, and instead of going into medicine and law like her sisters, she runs a diner. She’s also the only single sibling left. And while she won’t change her style, and her meatloaf is to die for, thank you very much, she wouldn’t mind her share of wedded bliss. So she makes an early New Year’s resolution: No more meaningless flings.

Drop-dead sexy Luke Hamilton is everything Allison has sworn off. His only serious relationship has been with his five-star restaurant, Le Cygne Noir, in Chicago. When he’s threatened by a lawsuit, Luke decides to hide out in Pineville, Michigan, until the statute of limitations runs out. The small town is filled with Christmas charm, but he can’t imagine living there. Heating things up with the hottie who owns the local diner would make his exile bearable—if he can convince her to give up her ridiculous resolution . . .

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt Two:
“This is a small-town diner. Your stock isn’t going to drop if you have a bit of fun with your newest employee.” His eyes raked her body, taking in every curve.
She swallowed and rose to her feet. Staying seated while he stared down at her looking like he wanted to…well, eat her up, wasn’t a strong authority position. Since this man now worked for her, he was off-limits. Her stomach quivered.
No. No, making him the forbidden fruit. He might be sexy, but he was also an arrogant know-it-all. At this stage in her life, she wanted someone she could settle down with, not tear up the sheets. She thrust her shoulders back, realizing too late it could look like she was shoving her D cups in his face. Fighting the heat crawling up her neck, she said, “If you want a tour, my advice would be to visit the tourist bureau. They have information on the sights to see. The holidays are a busy season for me, more so with Sadie’s wedding. I don’t have time for anything else. Got it?”
He nodded slowly, but Allison didn’t believe him. The tilt to his full lips was impish, as if she was a challenge he couldn’t wait to take on. The moment he spoke, she knew she was right. “I get it. You own a restaurant; you’re busy.” Sauntering to the door, he waited until he was just outside before hitting her with his parting shot.
“But a month is a long time. You won’t always be busy. And I’ll be waiting.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This book.  When I wasn’t giggling, I was swooning.  Sadie and Luke were some of the funniest, endearing, likable and relatable characters that I have read in a long time.  No, seriously.  Relatable.  Sadie is in her 30’s and dealing with the somewhat disapproval of her life choices by her family.  I admit that her family isn’t all that likable at all.  I didn’t hate them but for me I could have liked a little less from them.  I married when I was 38 and never did I get any kind of disapproval.  I waited for the right man and didn’t settle.  Neither did Sadie.  Of course, it took her the course of the book to FINALLY figure out that Luke is it for her.

Luke is just one of those heroes that you just instantly like.  Forget the looks and money.  The man can cook and isn’t afraid to admit it.  Plus, I really don’t think to wait out for the lawsuit to go away was all that bad.  True, he signed the documents but once you read the story, you will see that someone else is at fault and good Lord, that woman.  Grrr…  I liked how Luke finally took care of her but I really thought going through it, that it wouldn’t work out that way.  But I digress.  Yes, I’m one of those readers that people to do bad things to get their comeuppance.

I really liked how Sadie and Luke built a friendship first.  Sure it was hell on them but in the end, it’s what made them the couple that you really wanted together.  Luke had a bit of thinking to do when the bacon hit the frying pan.  I know, I made a pun.  A food pun.  And with this couple, everything was backward.  The dialogue between them made me giggle and then swoon.  Luke is a romantic whether he wants to admit it or not.  Sadie just wanted to finally settle down.

The diner scenes were hilarious.  Between the cooking, Delilah and how Luke managed to charm two older ladies.  It was like the hub of the town.  Speaking of which, the two older ladies are a HOOT!!!

Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.  I won’t mention the wedding stuff.  You just need to read it to find out how that whole secondary plot is woven into the romance of Sadie and Luke.  *major swoon*  for both couples…
